[Highlight] Chet Holmgren embellishes contact on the rebound attempt, creating a 5-on-4 that resulted in Wemby’s game-tying three
“AYEEEE” and flying to the ground from a normal box out lmao
The verbal flop, one of the worst things of the last 2 decades of NBA basketball.
Jimmy Butler comes to mind. Amazing player but he’s so damn loud on his EYYYYYs
My favourite was always Dion Waiters’ “AND ONEEEEEEEE” only to blow the layup and not get the foul call either.
What a clown. The NBA should fine him for this crap.
Anthony Edwards comes to mind for me. Feels like everytime I watch the Wolves I hear 6 “AAYYYYEEEEE”s
KAT does this shit too lol
KAT loves busting out the OH MY GAAAHHHD, too
Scottie Barnes does it, he learned it from Siakam, who learned it from Kawhi. I hate it.
Siakam’s is the most annoying of the three though.
Ah man I need a clip of that audio. Aaauhhyeee
O-Kaauhhyee-C!
New Wilhelm Scream just dropped
Should be the NBA version of the Wilhelm scream.
Kudos to the refs not buying it.
This sht worked all regular season and start of playoffs is why they keep doing it.
It was working on the playoffs and single one of them does it including dort who does sideways ninja cartwheels around legal screens
It got them a title, no wonder they keep doing it
This is why people hate OKC.
A bunch of flopping bums
That noise is Chet’s bread and butter. He will ARURGHURHGRH before the contact even arrives.
Wilhelm scream that shit.
he sounds like Crazy Rap by Afro man
See, I met this woman from Hawaii Stuck it in her ___ and she said “AIEE!”
You can say ass on the internet
Great song btw
Good. I’m so glad they’re making them pay for this shit
They just dive to the floor automatically, it’s insane.
It’s a part of their so far successful plan to overwhelm the refs to get calls their way. “We’re just good defenders, the other teams foul us!” is their constant refrain, as if we can’t see what’s happening on tv.
I have not watched a lot of games this season and thought people were exaggerating as per usual, but then I watched the game yesterday.
They play extremely physical. Lots of pushes, swiping at the ball and some possessions just straight up hacking. I personally do not want games to be called super strict, but it was a bit much at times.
What makes it worse is when the opposing team plays defense - even if its not as physical as OKC does - they still throw themselves around and cry about it.
Its so hypocritical. Disgusting playstyle.
Them chanting refs you suck at one point was rich
That one was great, they wanted a flagrant from Caruso selling a regular shoulder bump from Wemby. Regular foul wasn’t enough apparently
Was funny seeing Alexander-Walker laughing and rolling his eyes at the fans reacting to the “flagrant”. I think it just emphasizes the lack of ball knowledge your average fan has (across any sport).
Shouldn’t have even been reviewed. Ausar Thompson absolutely trucked Merrill the other night, extended his arm and ran him over but wasn’t reviewed for a flagrant.
Soft ass play style. It’s why people hate watching them full stop. It’s about time their flopping bites them in the ass by taking them out of the play during a transition. Maybe that’ll get them to stay on their feet and not rely on refs as their 6th man.
Something about the way they don’t just embrace the villain role makes it worse somehow. Even the bad boy pistons kinda had some self awareness at least
Bad Boys embraced their rough play and didn’t complain on the other end, unlike these flopping fish. SGA even looks like a freaking Magicarp lol
I’m okay with them being physical as long as it’s same on the other end. But because of their flopping the other team doesn’t get to be physical at all.
Yesterday’s game is where we finally got to see both teams being physical and it was great.
Williams kept swiping hard at Wembys wrist too not even the ball. Dude was karate chopping. Dirty ass player.
like when SGA came through with the off hand and hit whomever it was right in the face. like it wasnt a huge hit, but it was by no means incidental, marginal or a play on the ball
Ah, it’s the Arsenal approach.
Also the Seahawks Legion of Boom strategy. Commit fouls on every play and eventually the refs will swallow their whistles.
And in all fairness also the Warriors strategy on offense. Set so many illegal screens eventually the refs will tire of calling them.
The difference of course, being that physical football and Splash Bros insanity is a hell of a lot of fun.
The free throw and flop fests that are Thunder games are legitimately embarrassing to the sport. They are a very great team. They are also a bullshit team, and the refs and league that enable their bullshit need to figure it out
Also Florida Panthers approach, they are SO dirty and take SO many dirty runs that the refs can’t possibly call them all. Plus it helps that the NHL is literally ran by Colin Campbell whose son is an AGM on the team (no conflict of interest there).
Ughh, the worst. They play rugby every game.
Yet they have the audacity to cry about the refereeing in every match. Honestly the OKC/Arsenal comparison is perfect considering how insufferable both fanbases are.
“But just look at how many free throws they actually shot!” Yeah man, just looking at free throws doesn’t capture this shit
The thing about Arsenal is they always try and walk it in.
OKC vs the Pistons would’ve been a series for the ages, they thought we got a lot of foul calls
Every single one of their guys do it also except maybe Ihart. I’m convinced the first part of practice is flopping training.
Hartenstein can’t do it because then there’d be no one around to performatively get in the face of the player on the other team.
He hit kornet in the face right before the play on the other end that didn’t get called a foul as well
Hartenstein cried wolf even when Luke immediately went over to help Chet, yet Hart hit him with the inverted eyebrows, pained, eyes almost glistening with tears, pleading with Luke that “there’s no place in this game for playing like that” LITERALLY right after inadvertently hitting Luke in the face with his elbow the play before. The hypocrisy.
Honestly, idk how the Thunder players aren’t sick of Chet themselves and just wait around for him to get up by himself. Chet never accepts any help and always seems to grab the part of his face that didn’t even get hit.
Man that shit annoyed me so much, like you just elbowed him the face bro and then you coming running and confront him for doing something you just did on accident? GTFO
Yeah, the act tough cry wolf routine. The atletico madrid of the NBA.
In game 4 of the finals he got in Tony Bradley’s face aggro as fuck when he was inbounding and when TB put his arm on him just to get the tiniest bit of space ihart immediately dove to the floor. Immediate whistle, thunder basketball
In a game full of bad calls, that was the worst. I can’t respect a player that acts like that
It’s 100% something they get coached to do.
Watch how Chet was pushing LaRavia with 2 hands then fell and got a foul -
part of me feels like WWE they play the villain and now they are getting punished from Wemby and everybody feels good
Now I’m picturing them laying out foam pads for their flop training drills.
The fact that Daigneault immediately challenged the Wemby shoulder check into Caruso embellish tells me everything I need to know about his coaching. He wants his guys to embellish and flop.
He does it too. Lots of videos of him dying from marginal or no contact.
Every single one of their guys do it also except maybe Ihart
iHart flops lmao. TWolves fans know:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6-nn_eFaHNM
Brother WHAT 🤦♂️😂
I imagine their practices being like the videos from Star Trek where the Enterprise is being attacked, but without the camera shake. Except they fall down.
And their fans have the audacity to heckle the refs. Shawn Kemp would curbstomp somebody if they pulled that ragdoll shit.
Unironically awesome Seattle fan vendetta
Legit beef you’ve. I support you.
OKC fans busting out “refs you suck” when the referees were borderline perfect says a lot about their expectations
It’s part of the plan , along with putting Carruso on Wemby and fouling him continuously. No ref is going to whistle when the defender is smaller , he gets a ton more leverage and I’ve seen him holding and fouling a ton when fighting for position, which happens anyway between bigs but it’s called out more.
And Chet gets those calls lol he gets an advantage for being skinny
Wow, the Wilhelm scream and everything.
The malik monk
Sounded like Reggie stooped himself from an “oh fuck!” as well.
Yea def sounded like he was about to say that 🤣
Lol, I thought the same thing. Someone with the skills needs to loop that.
Just how he was coached.
Seriously, I put the entire team’s flopping on Daigneault. You always see him berating the refs IMMEDIATELY when there’s some situation of contact.
I’m not saying he trains them to flop, but I am saying he sets to the tone from the top. Easily my least favorite coach in the league
him wasting our lives challenging the Wemby/Caruso charge looking for a flagarant was an act of basketball terrorism
well he let Wemby get a free timeout and breather so I’m happy he did it
made me so happy
You should call it what it was: The Caruso flop
If the league ever gets serious about this shit the refs will come back from reviews like that with a flopping call.
I hope I live to see the day.
It’s the whole front office. He’s not making decisions to coach that in a vacuum. They’ve taken an analytics approach to gaming the officiating and Daigneault is just the one executing on it
Nah he 100% trains them to flop just look at Jared McCain. Ever since he got to okc he’s significantly been flopping a lot more. We even heard Bickerstaff saying that James Harden would practice foul baiting on him when he was in Houston. It’s definitely a thing of teams training their players to get better at drawing fouls.
“Take the fall! Act hurt! Get indignant!”
I mean, there have been clips of OKC practice where the players (SGA is the last clip I remember seeing) are embellishing contact…
I’m not saying he trains them to flop
You should, they clearly are trained on it as a team.
He should absolutely slam chet for this
Grow a fucking pair and get the fucking rebound
He absolutely trains them to flop.
Take the fall, act hurt, get indignant
Can’t stand the way they play, it’s embarrassing
Brunson vs. Harden in a few hours
god i remember the jazz guarding harden from the back just to not get a foul called
Or Champagnie is the strongest man alive
As a casual fan I thought the guy’s full name was “Sham Penney”, then I saw the back of his jersey and was confused.
I swear I thought they kept saying Champaign Penny, just butchering his name all night lol
were you high at the time?
Absolutely
Brother WHAT??
I had a similar issue with Asa Newell. I thought his name was Ace Anewell until I saw his name on an intro
This is basically how we got the words apron and orange!
‘A napron’ became ‘an apron’
‘A norange’ became ‘an orange’
No, Chet is just the weakest person alive.
Unstoppable Force meets Most Movable Object
Soft as Charmin
It is possible that NBA players are force sensitive and can throw people using their minds.
Champ Man could only conceal his jedi powers for so long
Champ’s midi-chlorian count is above 20,000 per cell, which suggests he is on the same jedi level as Anakin Skylwalker
Didn’t even notice this lmao
Also missed this live. A real shame, because this extra bit of context is fucking delicious
Last night was Christmas for this sub and I’ll take every damn bit of it
I had so much fun dude
Same, they do it so often that my brain automatically filters it out.
This shot is gonna live in infamy forever. Chet is going to be haunted by this clip lol.
Good
J Dub too for that dumbass shot lol that is not how you 2 for 1.
Yeah it’s crazy he never even makes back into frame. If he doesn’t hit the floor, he’s right behind wemby.
Is anyone else still just utterly dumbfounded by this shot. Like I am not getting shit done at work today. Mind is elsewhere.
someone said “it felt like witnessing basketball Jesus being born”
Just listening to every podcast all day at work, thinking of new scenarios and waiting for tomorrow.
You and I would get along
Now kiss
It’s truly an absurd shot to take and then just swish
He didn’t swish it it hit the rim
After it stopped hitting the rim it was a swish
My mistake yes you’re right
As a Spurs fan, literally went to bed at 2am just refreshing the Thunder, Spurs and NBA subreddit.
All I can think of is, should I get a payday loan and go see playoff Spurs?!
So tired at work today but did the same thing as you, no regrets. The idea of watching that game and then just turning my tv off and going to sleep sounds actually impossible
top-down culture
Fall down culture.
fall down 70 times, get up 8
They went to slip and fall school
aint no way chets a top
edit: i misunderstood that
*flop-down
These should be technicals
At least, fine them after the game for excessive embellishing.
Like if a player does this 5 times a game, just fine them.
No further penalties.
If it can be tracked, it’ll be on their career legacy forever and people can objectively call them a flopper for once.
In NHL its 2 min penalty for diving. I haven’t watched hockey for a long time, but I think they can still get fined after the game even if they weren’t penalized during the game.
I honestly can’t figure out why they don’t do this for all sports. Grown ass athletes are suppose to be role models.
A T might have stopped the break and won them the game
Assess retroactively. This is so easy to look at after the game and do. Chet wouldn’t be doing this on every contact if he was one embellishment strike away from a suspension. Just off the top of my head this would be atleast Chet’s 3rd egregious embellishment just in these playoffs.
This is literally so easy to fix. NBA just has to be willing to do it.
Chet was already a relatively easy player to clown on but after this series it is going to be fucking relentless. He legitimately looks scared of Wemby, like he doesn’t know how to react to playing someone who is taller than him.
It’s cause he plays like he’s 6’2 so naturally Wemby makes him feel even tinier lol
The thing I landed on was that Chet decided his skillset would be having the ability of a 6’5 guard in the body of 7’1 center and now it just looks like he’s bad KD impersonator.
Whereas Wemby took a similar skill set and decided to figure out how to play ball in a way only he could. And now he’s.. this.
Chet can’t do what Wemby can, but he could have learned to do more things like Wemby and I think he’d have a better chance.
Some of that is Wemby being developed in an open environment whereas the Thunder shoved Chet in a box almost immediately because they needed a center
He also just can’t pack on weight for some strange reason so bigger stronger guys always seem to give him real fits. Jokic cooks him pretty hard on offense as well
I hate OKC and chose to watch them less than probably any other non-tanking team this year, does Chet always look that sad/defeated?
Like I swear from opening tip the guy just looked depressed any time the camera would focus in on him.
thin mint Chet 3rd option can’t handle the pressure as usual
Thunder fans will look you dead in the eye and claim that every team flops just as much as the Thunder.
Rockets are in the same ballpark of aggressive D, and wimpy O on any contact and the incessant whining (Sengun)
It’s just Sengun. Amen will try to run right through you and dunk it. He ends up on the ground or in the stands from being out of control. KD will get you on rip throughs and bumps, but he stays up and still tries to get a decent shot. Bari and Tari too busy fouling themselves trying to dribble. Reed actively avoids contact to the point that it is detrimental to his game.
LOOK AT THE FT DIFFERENTIAL!!!!
Imagine thinking you’re justified in making the argument “we’re not the only ones doing this thing everyone hates”.
‘everyone else is just as bad’ is a common self-defense tactic. Keeps people from having to actually examine their own beliefs.
Most disgusting team to ever watch in the playoffs
So depressing these are reigning champs instead of the much more exciting and respectable pacers squad
sadly haliban went down in game 7 and rest is history
Really think Pacers would be champs if he didn’t go down so early in the game
We were on fire. It physically hurt to see him go down.
same. Not even a fan of any one team but the run was so epic and I hate OKC so much, it remains my top pain from a player injury. Aaron Rodgers on jets probably second, that one I didn’t even witness but caught up on when arriving post halftime (former lifelong Jets fan)
I love how most of us aren’t Pacers fans and yet that series will bother us all for a while
Everyone loves Hali. How could you not be upset about what happened? One of the great tragedies in basketball history.
This dude might be worse than shai with the flopping
From what I have seen this playoffs Chet does the most embellishing and faking contact of any of the thunder players. Or at least he has the most egregious flops
He did it during the Lakers series when LA was on a good run and killed their momentum. He did the same exact flop today and ended up killing all of OKC’s momentum lol
Yeah he’s had several highlights this postseason where there was no contact or very very little contact and he screams and dives to the floor. Then they review for a flagrant and you get to see just how big of a flop it is lol
Because he does it offball too. Fuckin clown acts like he got hit hard then falls
And it attracts refs attentions because his fucking wingspan is like 10’ so when he flops and starts flailing his gangly ass limbs it’s hard not to notice
This and his “grab the wrong side of his face and run headlong into the stanchion” were much more shameful than anything I’ve seen from Shai in a couple games watching them
Shai is the worst foul-baiter.
Chet is the worst flopper.
Shai will flail around or throw himself into players to get foul calls.
Chet will collapse to the ground and cry at the smallest bit of contact.
Has anyone ever seen the ‘MVP’ complete a layup on his feet?
SGA flops by abusing the rules, Chet flops by pretending he’s injured, that’s my expert analysis
Bol Bol with PR
Bol Bol on a championship team
Bol Bol with melanin deficiency.
This is 100% coached. Gross
Watching the Reff not give a fuck and take off when he went flying was rich. It’s like taking a bat and hitting your abuser of 15 years.. Ala walking dead.
Embarrassing
This shot by JDub was so so so bad
I contend it’s the defining moment of the game. I’d love to see the analytics to see how OKC’s chances to win decrease or increase if they’d taken the shot clock to zero, and either gotten a bucket, or not. Hell, even if they take the 24 second violation, they still get a chance to set their defense. Instead they got the stupidest of all outcomes.
Play for the game, not for the call.
Besides Chet, SGA also try to initiate contact on that pull up jumper but failed. If OKC play safe, they should shoot it a bit later, so the Spurs can only have one possession, and OKC can still have a few seconds left even if Spurs hit a 3.
Instead, SGA wanted the contact/foul and rushed the shot with 10s remaining. Chet tried to sell contact but failed, and failed to come back. Wemby went up the court, thought he should shoot as soon as possible for a 2-for-1, and hit that outrageous shot.
It’s usually the playoff-inexperience team made such mistake, somehow it’s OKC who make the mistake in Game 1.
95% of their season they get one of these calls, is this even a mistake? They just weren’t prepared for tense playoff final moments where the refs tend to swallow whistles because no one wants a ticky tack foul deciding a game.
Refs were good last night but I don’t believe for a second it’s gonna stay like that all series. Eventually these actors get their fouls.
Two quick fouls on Castle in the first 90 seconds to start G2 lol
That was so stupid. Had he not thrown himself on the grounds out of bounds, he could have made an attempt at the rebound and maybe gotten a foul. He was out of position though anyway, so doubt it
Man I hate this team, go spurs
Softest team I’ve ever seen. I’m not sure why people enjoy watching this type of “basketball.” They might as well have stunt wires connected to them.
If they were honest they would admit they don’t like watching it. They just like being fans of the team that won a chip. But I said it before and I’ll say it again. Winning is a lot less sweet when you account for how it was won. Soft ass rule-manipulating team that played every round against a team with significant injury problems with their best players.
Most fraudulent “dynasty” in league history
You’re supposed to fight for the rebound, big man. This is the NBA
Also considering the trend of that game. Refs were letting them play, also Its the final moments where whistles are held. Dumbass thinking by him
[removed]
That shot clock violation he had with Harper on him was disgusting to the game of basketball.
Karma for being so unethical
You can tell Chet is scared of Wemby.
So Chet’s 7’ 1 and getting thrown across the court by a guard in crunch time. Dudes looking like a liability on the court.
This is why they’re an eye sore to watch. These guys literally throw themselves on the ground. It’s pathetic.
what a giant gangly bitch
Goddamn that three was from France
Lmao. 🤣 soft ass shit big ass for nothing. MF went flying like a crouching Tiger hidden Dragon ass scene.
Whenever you post this 3 by Wemby, that NEEDS to be included. Immortalize that shit.
Thank you, Chet, for the legendary clip.
Just a perfect encapsulation of how they play lol, it’s from the top down. Constantly playing for the whistle and expecting the call instead of genuinely trying to make a play. And OKC fans will tell you every team in the league is throwing themselves to the ground like this lol
I love the crowd reaction on that 3, everyone hands on head in disbelief lol
He got unlucky, but he made the percentage play.
Seen this multiple times - flopping teams have great success with their flopping strat during regular season. And it works … until it doesn’t. Sometimes the flopping habits they have built up betray them in the playoffs.
And you love to see it.
So glad the ref didn’t reward that or else we would’ve never gotten that all timer by Wemby.
Thank you ref
One of the 5 times he left that corner all game just to give it all up
Great catch. And I love that the refs saw it and just let the game play on
