Beringer played well from the bench vs Bucks and vs Spurs. Sixers knew he would start since Wolves had no Gobert and Naz. They gameplanned for him and he fouled out in 14 minutes playing against Adem Bona.

At a certain point some blame has to fall on the players. We’ve heard these guys for years saying they know the game plan and they’re not executing what the staff is telling them.

Maybe they’ll listen to someone else, but some of that is just on the players.

This team has been this way for years, and it feels more like Finch was influenced by the team emotionally, then he has influenced them imo. I can understand why players won’t love it though, but thank God they finally said this shit.

The players would be held accountable for more things than they have considered. They will literally have to work harder to get results that seem negligible in the moment (discipline is not always about results, but more about control and a deep understanding of your role in the task at hand, which typically doesn’t show its value until you really need it to). The last crux that I think is difficult to sell to players with respect to discipline, is it is a boring style of play compared to being driven by emotions.

It might be true that they really don’t need much discipline until things get hard at the end of the season, but the issue there is that discipline has to be forged and is more effective as a constant state, it’s not something that can be flipped on and off and still be there when you need it.

Man we are so far away from the early to mid 2010s days of Curry, CP3, Parker, Wall, Kyrie, Lillard, Lowry. Even the fringe allstars were decent like Rubio, Teague, Kemba, Conley. 

The way offenses are run today though idk if we’ll ever see those type of PGs return. It’s basically all drive and kick which everyone can do in the regular season but when the game slows down only like 3-5 PGs still seem to be effective. 

NBA has greatly prioritized defense, size and athleticism the last 5 years but kind of ignored guys that can simply get a bucket or create offense for others because they’re not elite at those other attributes.

It’s a long time problem with Minnie I think, they should have finished way better than 6th seed. They know they can beat anyone when they’re involved but they can’t afford to half-ass some other regular season games. Now if they can’t even stay focused for a full playoff run, that’s a bigger problem. There are some players like Gobert who really seem tired of these fluctuations but the majority of the roster seems fine with giving the bare minimum.

Watching a rod seething courtside made me think something big might be in play if something presents itself. Your orgs FO has never seemed afraid of big swings lately. It’s interesting cause if they’re healthy that’s probably a very competitive series. But some of the no shows particularly Randle and gobert not having a match up that worked in this one feels like something to be addressed if they want to make another step

Yeah like every year wont be your year. Someone has to lose every round. You reflect on the success of winning 2 games in R2 while injured and build on the team for next year.

Nobody even expected this team to get past the nuggets. 

Getting 2 wins in this series is fine. 

Literally only reason it wasn’t is because in game 1 we had a bit of the experience edge and the Spurs weren’t prepared for the physicality (and Spurs still had a chance to win at the buzzer), and the Wemby ejection that likely doesn’t happen ⁹⁹⁄₁₀₀ times this series is replayed. I agree.

That’s what the vast majority of the league does now though. I can’t blame the Wolves when almost every team runs the same high pick and roll heavy iso offense. 

He tried for years to get the team to run what he calls a “free flow” offense. The problem was that the team has only been smart enough to run it about 10% of the time. When Conley was out there, he kind of forced them into it by initiating some action and getting some movement going. He wasn’t really playmaking, he just was making sure guys moved and passed. He still has that effect, but he has declined and doesn’t get as many minutes, so it’s tough to help from the sidelines.

Replacing a willing passer in KAT with a whirling dervish that likes to iso doesn’t help. Randle had a good stretch at the end of last season after he came back from injury and saw how well everything meshed without him, but he went back to his old ways this season.

Ant is also at fault. He’s an iso guy by nature. You can get by with one of those on the floor if everyone else is doing what they need to, but having two of them just kills the movement. It’s something he needs to get better at. Curry is the poster child for this. When the best player on the team is perfectly fine moving the ball and running around to create space, your offense clicks. Ant needs to get better at that.

In these playoffs they looked like fourth best to me. Only OKC, San Antonio, and New York were better, and that’s with Minny’s injuries. Just unfortunate for Minnesota that the two juggernauts in OKC and SA are both in their conference (and actually really well built to beat Minny)

They beat the nuggets and too the spurs to 6.  Ant was either injured or didn’t play a ton, Donte was lost in the first series, and they had off and on injuries to Ayo and Naz.  Even in that state I would put them above 7th, healthy they are way higher than that.

I agree 7th is accurate, behind the Thunder, Spurs, Knicks, Pistons (likely a better roster next season), Lakers (with Luka back) and Celtics (a more stable Tatum, an improved roster this offseason).

The Wolves have no real draft picks to help them either. They gave up too much for Rudy Gobert and now the taxman is coming when they need to draft a 2nd star player. This might sound reactionary, but if you have no picks and no shots at winning, the Wolves either need to have near perfect offseason signings or trade away everyone older than 25 and acquire improving players and draft picks. Right now I would do the latter so that way only this coming season is a “lost” season where they cannot compete versus up 4 years of fake competing while they slip down the Western Conference “rankings” from “outside of contending” to “cannot make the play-in.”

Especially with how deep the Western Conference is and how many young guys there are that could become stars already in the league + in the next 3 drafts (especially this one).

lol Randle trade value before this series wasn’t as bad as it is now he’s on a ok contract. If they give up Jaden naz Reid 2 first round picks and Randle for Gianni’s and some parts .they might do it might need to give up Rudy though to get more picks . It’s still a long shot .
