Luke Kornet has made the conference finals 4 out of the last 5 years
He made it with the Celtics in 2022, 2023 and 2024 and just made it with the Spurs now. He only missed it last year
It’s insane how much he’s changed his game. I remember his rookie year with the Knicks he was a pure stretch big who couldn’t rebound or defend; really could not imagine this version of him a few years ago lol
Now he refuses to shoot despite so much space lol
Think he injured his shoulder and doesn’t shoot now to avoid aggravating it
I think the change in his playing style led him to focus on other stuff and maybe he stopped practicing his shooting as much because of that change
Luke is obviously not the same caliber of player but reminds me of how Bogut completely changed his game after his horrific injury.
how tf would shooting aggravate the shoulder but not playing physical bball
It’s supposedly with how he raises his shoulder to shoot
Facts. When my shoulder is acting up I can still lift stuff, push, do most things with just a bit of pain, but lifting my arm above my head is impossible.
That one time he shot a corner three and made it was hype as hell. Shame it never happened again lol
Now he defends purely with his Aura. He had 4 blocks, but psychically like 12. It was crazy seeing how much people missed when he was defending them.
Terrence Shannon scored a tough-ass layup on him and Luke wasn’t having any more of that.
Kornet kontest baby!
They kept going at him and throwing up total bricks that barely even hit the backboard. He was elite in game 6, which is crazy since he’s the “break” from Wemby relentlessly guarding the rim.
Could’ve possibly made it last year if we played him over KP
just wasn’t good enough against the Knicks
7 blocks in game 5 tho ill never forget 😭
That was the game that made me fall in love with basketball again. Something beautiful about a massive man saying No over and over again.
He’s everything a backup should be. Best non starter center imo
Mitchell Robinson erasure
It’s close. Luke Kornet has been more available these past 4 years and isn’t a target at the stripe. Mitchell Rob is a slightly better defender and rebounder though
I like Kornet but Robinson is far better. He’s a genuinely insane rebounder and a fantastic defender
The FT issue mitigates Mitchell’s large rebounding edge and slight defending edge.
I take the guy that you can actually have on the floor down the stretch.
Robinson literally has won us 2 playoff series (23 against the Cavs, last year against the Celtics) with his offensive rebounding/neutralizing the opposing bigs. Shout out the unikornet, he’s more solid offensively for sure but he doesn’t have one niche skill that can flip a series like Mitch has proven to do.
Kornet was pretty big for us the last few games. He grabbed like 4 lob throws out of the air or sent them over to a teammate. His effectiveness at defending pick and rolls made Gobert barely useful
Yeah I miss how good he is at covering both on the PNR
It’s not just a large rebounding edge, mitchell robinson literally had the greatest offensive rebounding rate of all time this past season 😭
Slightly better defender and rebounder? You realize that statistically Mrob is one of the greatest offensive rebounders of all time? Also, he’s just a freak of an athlete who’s also the same size as Embiid so he can defend the perimeter and is elite at rim protection. His only detractors are his health which was managed well by the Knicks this year and his FT shooting. I like Luke Kornet but teams don’t circle him in a scouting report like they do for Mitchell Robinson
He’s also the worst offensive big in the nba. Which is incredible when the hoop is 6” from your standing reach.
Mitchell Robinson is the worst offensive big in the NBA?
Let me clarify. He is the worst offensive big that gets any minutes. Definitely some deep bench guys who are on par.
By what metrics? He’s the best offensive rebounder in the NBA, sets fantastic screens, and is an elite roll-man/vertical spacer. The Knicks offensive rating is over 2 points better with him on the floor than off.
2EB metric.
Watch some drew eubanks film and come back to me. Was gonna say Jericho sims but somehow that mf got a triple double in silly season this year.
You know the offense is ass when you gotta bring up Drew Eubanks as a worse player instead of just saying Gobert lmao.
this is super outdated. mitch has been incredible this past year with his hands. he’s catching lobs from all over the place. with that + his all time offensive rebounding + his great screening he is inarguably a huge plus offensively
Yeah bro.. talking about setting screens as a highlight is really proving my point.
Just say you’re a casual 😭 offense isn’t just point or assists. The Knicks are a top three offense in the league and their offensive rating goes UP when Robinson is on the floor
So a non-casual wouldn’t think Mitch is ass offensively? Got it. Remind me of his FT % plz
Kornet obviously has a big availability advantage but Robinson is so clearly more impactful during his time on the court (by far) that i’m still taking him. Even with hack-a-mitch factored in
If Naz counts as a center he is the best backup.
He’s clearly a forward, good player though.
I would agree, but most websites have him as a center, and the broadcasters always label him a center.
Gonna be honest, i’ve literally never heard him called a center on a broadcast and I watch a decent amount of the Wolves. Very possible that i’ve been lucky enough to only ever catch the sane broadcasts but i’m quite surprised at what you said
Last game they did multiple times
Lol he doesn’t
Why would he count as a center? Surely you know he’s actually a 4 regardless of what he’s listed as
He’s closer to a 3 than a 5, but pundits and websites call him a center often
Why does Reddit love the word erasure so much
Dude he is with his experience and toughness makes him a good fit for us. I would rather have him than most starting centers in the NBA.
Was so crucial to the Celtics bench success. And his 3pt contest is lethal
Paul Reed and Beef Stew.
he’s not better than mitchell robinson
Is he the best player in the NBA?
Many are saying this
Bleacher Report says it, Sports Illustrated says it
Yes
He had more blocks than Wemby last game so obviously he is a better defender. Offensively, it might be a toss up but Luke is 100% from 3 this playoffs….
Bball Paul erasure
Not as good as Patrick 3-peat McCaw
(I know, it’s not the same)
He has become exactly what the NBA feared.
Best free agency signing of the offseason, if you ask me. He holds down the fort while Wemby rests while also being a capable starter. Huge floor raiser for this team.
I think having a good big body backup centre will be very important for the spurs
It has been and will be. The Spurs bled points when Wemby’s backups were Zach Collins and Charles Bassey.
Charles bassey was acceptable if he stayed on the court. The guy unfortunately is the big man version of Romeo Langford. Plays solid defense for 2 games and then is back in the injury report for 5 games. It’s tough because a Bassey type of center that’s more durable is actually a solid backup
Was he a free agency? Wow, didn’t know that. Could be what Lakers or Nuggets were looking for. Great signing by SAS
Yup. Celtics let him walk for financial reasons because of the Tatum injury. Probably weren’t expecting a playoff run. They could have really used him.
in fairness, Luke was on a sweetheart minimum deal with us, and after showing out, he had the chance to get paid more than what we could have given him. ur right tho that we could have really used him this postseason.
I love watching him playing, what a beast. Great defense and big help in an offense. Some teams could use him as a starting center, but Spurs have even better center! Spurs have an amazing team.
Yeah I was thrilled when we got him
This sub’s experts were crying out that it was an overpay.
He’s played like he is pretty easily the best backup big in the league.
Korn dog is goated what can we say
I really like him and Wemby’s duo nickname of French silk.
Chet is shivering in his high heels rn
Weird comment and no he wouldn’t be
He’s not gonna fuck you bro
Unless…
the ‘no he wouldnt be’ is unnecessary but it is a weird comment
Deservedly so. one of the best players of his era
Our rotation behind Wembanyama was pretty anemic before we acquired him. We would be suffering a lot more in Wemby’s off-minutes without Kornet, that’s definitely for sure. Also a great personality, dude is probably our funniest player.
If only Mazzulla played him more instead of insisting with Porzingis in the hopes he’d magically recover from his hospital state…
Yeah I miss Kornet
The next Lebron?
He isn’t the next LeBron. He is the first Kornet.
Miss him every day, would love to see him 2x champion
Will definitely be rooting for the Spurs to win it all
Okc aint ready for these Korn Nuts
The real goat
He was really good in this series
I misread this as Luke Kennard and I was about to be very angry
The Spurs really went from Zach Collins & Tre Jones to Kornet, Fox, and Harper
Him and Brunson are the only ones who’ve done this. All time Knick legends.
And no I don’t know if this stat is actually true, don’t @ me
Luke Kornet is inevitable
He looks like he smokes a cigarette, downs a couple of Nathan’s and suits up.
Go Dores!
Props to Kornet, he’s a legit contributor to one of the best teams in the league.
Yet I keep hearing on the broadcast that Fox is the only one with barely any playoff experience. What about kornet? Dude is a baller.
Really impressed me the game Wemby got ejected. He was a big reason they almost won that game.
He’s still a cornball for throwing a tantrum about magic city night
Celtics got a ring with DWhite, now it’s time for the Spurs to get a ring with Kornet
His rim protection in game 6 was incredible. The Celtics really lost something there.
Best center on the Spurs
