Both took a huge jump in 3P% after the all star break. I’ve heard so many people talking about just letting castle shoot 3s as a defensive strategy… dude has been lights out on catch and shoots for the last few months.

Hitting that percent at double volume is still more impressive I would say and I imagine Kon is getting lower quality looks because he is a known shooter.

Yeah, OKC used the “prove you can beat us from 3” approach with Castle in the regular season and he was like the second coming of Curry. I doubt they’ll approach it the same way, but if he’s a threat from deep it’s a huge problem for even the best of defenses.

And the dumber thing is like..okay..once he hits his first two what are you gonna do? Gonna let him keep doing it? Or are you going to try and adjust defensively..but you weren’t prepared for it, so now he’s running right by his primary defender and there isn’t help because the defense was supposed to back off.
I mean it works in the Spurs favor when teams try it, so I won’t complain. But I wonder how many times teams will keep trying it…

Castle seemingly has fully matured post all-star break. Putting his breakout offensive games aside, he out-rebounds Fox, he’s a better playmaker than Fox, and he brings 3rd team all-nba level defense.
Respectfully disagree. I think Steph & Harper would still struggle if they were the primary ball handlers on this team. I’m glad that both young prospect are making strides and performing well in the post season, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves with their development. Fox has absolutely made personal sacrifices in his usage to help lead this team to their 60 win season and post season success.

If they can’t believe that a 21 years old player with a clean shooting form can improve enough in his first couple of years in the league to become a dependable 3pts shooter it’s more of an indictement on their own training staff than anything else.
I’ll be honest: I’m watching this and it’s making me think that every team in the West that isn’t Spurs/OKC needs to just blow it up and clear the way for these two for the next few years, at least until aprons make the Spurs and Thunder worse. No one is competing with these guys for the near future. Like the Wolves are really good too, and there’s so much playoff experience here and the Spurs are really young and this is too easy for them.

The Celtics are a good comparison but they also had an impending cap hit everyone was anticipating. SAS and OKC are built off rookie contracts that can easily sustain them for another 4-5 shots at a ring. And none of those other teams won 60+ games with wild net ratings.
This sorta feels like a Celtics/Lakers in the 80s situation where there is two teams just head and shoulders above everyone else.

The form was good. And if you watch his highschool highlights he can certainly put up gigantic numbers and shoot. UConn was just the best thing for him in terms of focusing on the core components of his game first, then letting everything else build up on top. He’s already got a vet mentality.
