[Haberstroh] “Jalen Duren had the fourth most second chance points in the regular season, in this entire series he has not scored on second chance opportunities”
That basically sums up his playoff performances
That is fucking crazy….he has been so bad. Let cade down so much.
Lowe mentioned on the recent podcast it might be the first time a rookie contract player becomes eligible for the supermax — and the team justifiably ignores it completely
Maybe he needs this disaster of a playoff run to change how he approaches some things and he comes back better next season, but damn, this is one of the biggest downgrades from regular season to playoffs that I can remember. I actually feel bad for him
Yeah, and it sucks that this is a contract year for him… I saw someone saying these playoffs probably cost him over $100m… I kinda agree with that. He was a young all star this season and looked to be a player on the rise.
It’s going to be hard seeing a team commit a large % of their salary cap to 5 years of this. Genuinely curious as to what kind of deal he signs this offseason. I feel like its gonna either be a short term contract for him to try to “prove himself” again next year or a HUGE paycut to what people were expecting a month ago.
You’re a Suns fan, you’ve seen this happen with Ayton already.
The thing is ayton didn’t have nearly as bug a drop in the series he was bad, and he also was arguably the 2nd most important player in the finals run, and had a insanely good run, so he played great before the bad series vs mavs
I don’t know. Ayton was quite good in the Finals run and then he slowly turned into this passive low effort version of himself he’s been ever since, but as I remember it (and I might be wrong, as my brain probably chooses not to remember much of 2022 because it was a bad year all around for me) it wasn’t a drastic change from regular season to playoffs.
He’s pulling a James Harden against James Harden.
This is way worse than harden ever, harden always at least has big games to go along with some of his stinkers. Duren has been horrendous the whole time.
More like Julus Randle big bruiser type that bully people and disappear in the playoffs
He lost out on so much money this playoffs
I don’t really believe much in the nba is an “effort only” play including second chance, but I mean holy shit he can’t possibly be putting any in how do you have none. It’s far worse than the scoring that he’s not even capable of doing the dirty work for the team, what is even the point after that.
I agree that “effort” gets thrown around pretty liberally. And in my head, I just assume that when some people say “effort” they are referring to prep/practice. Like he hasn’t put in enough effort in the film room to see how teams might stop him from grabbing boards or not enough effort working on a little 5 foot push shot.
Yeah no in this case it literally means putting in the effort to physically jump off the floor for a rebounded basketball. He doesn’t even do that anymore.
As a Pistons fan I would say it’s more of a focus or mental thing than effort problem
He has always come across a bit lackadaisical at times and had some sloppy plays, but this Playoffs he just seems completely out of it mentally. The most simple passes have been flying past him because he’s in his own mind, and he seems hesitant to go back up for second chance points like he’s constantly doubting his own skills
Not like he’s putting in no effort or grabbing 0 rebounds
I mean, if everybody else is putting in effort too, then just effort isn’t enough.
i am trying to think of a player whos value tanked as fast as duren’s has
He’s had a 50% decline in his regular season stats to the playoffs. That’s an insane drop even adjusting for average drops.
Not just counting stats his shooting percentage has tanked too.
Bit of a sidebar but Tom is such a great addition to our broadcasts
“Headband Toumani is statistically the greatest player to set foot on a basketball court” - Tom
I can understand dropping as a scorer. Especially since this is dudes first time having pressure on em in the playoffs(I know he played last year but that wasn’t the same as this run)
But being this ass on the glass is inexcusable
Reminds me of what happened to Roy Hibbert. The drop off was so sudden. But didn’t Duren suffer an ankle injury recently? Could be wrong but I think he’s far from 100%.
KOC’s beard looks like the beard of a person who is trying to overcompensate for a weak jawline.
I’m kinda surprised wemby only has 14 this series. Does he have a higher volume of shooting 3s so he’s not under the basket as much or are the Spurs more efficient of a shooting team so he doesn’t need to get as many rebounds?
Much harder to get second chance points vs two 7 foot centers.
He was awful against the Magic. It’s not cuz of Mobley and Allen lol
Where are these mythical 7ft centers?
Contrary to what you might believe, Allen is apparently only like 6’9 without shoes
That’s crazy. I could have sworn he was 7ft. Must be the hair.
Lmao regular season teams are so funny. Like how does this fake shock happen? Obvious bad team with flawed players tries hard against tanking teams or good teams that don’t give a F gets exposed.
It’ll be the same fake shock when OKC sweeps the next two rounds.
Tbh though, we aren’t really a regular season team. He is The Reason we are performing poorly because he was the 2nd option and now Tobias has to be. Cade is playing better than the regular season for the most part, outside of some turnover problems. Tobias is playing better than the reg season, same with Duncan Robinson.
Man. It’s only been one championship. The hubris is crazy. Lakers and Celtics fans don’t talk as hard as some OKC fans.
How is being in a tight series with a good Cavs team “exposed?”
