What’s Lauri Markkanens trade value? 1. In general?
and
Easy. Utah isn’t trading Lauri
I would like to see him on your team next to Book and Brooks tbh. The salaries are probably a bit too high, though.
That would actually be a great fit. Lauri in the euros and Olympics is always a hardass and would fit with the energy
It’s a Danny Ainge team so everyone is available, but it’d take an overpay.
That said we probably want to give this roster a chance. We have legit not seen Lauri on a Jazz squad actually trying to win.
In the scenario where they get Dybantsa, they might.
Dybantsa, Ace, JJJ, Kessler, Filipowski is a lot of mouths to feed.
Lauri is way better than Dybantsa today. Flip is a back up big so not worth considering. Ace is a promising young player but still 19 y/o, he is still building into that role.
Lol
Yea let’s draft two small forwards consecutive years with top 5 picks and trade for a power forward making $50 million AND keep our other forward making almost that much.
Sounds like a recipe for success, especially when you have zero talent at SG
What is so bad about one of ace or AJ coming off of the bench? They’re not gonna be contenders from day one, they have a lot of time to sort out their roster
I mean it just depends on what the goal is. If there’s Jazz are trying to win games, they’d be better off getting more backcourt help.
And if they want to develop Ace and Dybantsa, they’d prob want to play the more than 20 mpg which will be hard to do if they have JJJ and Lauri as their starting forwards
They might have the worst guards in the league outside keyonte .
Which is why just getting Peterson with #2 makes the most sense.
But tbf in the modern game bigger wings who can handle the ball can slot in at SG no problem. I do reckon Lauri gets traded in a season or two if things don’t click really well, but I think we give it at least a season.
What are some comps of bigger wings who are not great shooters playing the 2?
I am not sure I love the Peterson - George fit tbh
Ace and AJ can both play SG, especially Ace.
Good recipe for winning 22 games
I hope you know Dybansta can play the 2
Yea starting a 6’9” guy at the 2 who isn’t great at poa defense and also not great at shooting makes a lot of sense.
can doesn’t mean he should lol
Says u
Yes, I says
Eh, your probably right..might be EASY for us to go after MPJ
For lottery picks?
None,
Way to high salary.
The closest if you find a team like Warriors that trade the 26 pick + Butler or something like that.
But doubt they will do it. But it is few teams trying to be good and have a huge salary they want to trade.
That’s ridiculous. Lauri is a fantastic player. Better than most traded in the past year and would command similar
you’re way undervaluing him. he only has 3 years left on his deal.
plus you just saw how much JJJ went for and he also has a bloated salary except he has 4 years left.
“only 3 years” out of a 5 year contract is a very funny way of saying it.
JJJ is a former DPOY, Markenen is a PF that doesn’t like banging on the block.
Jaren Jackson Jr and his career 5.6 rebounds per game, prototypical block banger
He has a DPOY. Name one thing Lauri has done that is on that level of accomplishment
Woah sorry man I must have missed the memo that no comparisons of players are allowed unless both have won a DPOY.
But I was really just commenting on your criticism of Lauri being that he’s “a PF that doesn’t like banging on the block,” when JJJ is a PF/C who also doesn’t like banging on the block.
And I was pointing out that JJJ has other skills that Lauri does not have. The reality is Lauri is very overpaid for what he does. He is essentially a stretch 4 who can pass a bit. He is too slow to defend quick wings and to soft to defend skilled post bigs. If I am missing some skill I would once again invite you to point it out.
If anything your little straw man argument just points out the other big elephant in the room. Can a team really make it work with two 6’11” bigs who don’t rebound well and both make over $40 mill really be successful? I personally don’t think so, especially with Walker Kessler about to get a bag as well.
your little straw man argument
Hilarious to be this dismissive of slight pushback then proceed to engage sincerely with it.
But anyway if you actually want to talk about the fit, I actually do think it could work.
The defensive limitations of Lauri that you pointed out are somewhat nullified by the fact that if he’s getting blown by defending quicker wings, those wings will be driving into two of the best shot blockers in the league. Kessler is a monster on the boards that should nullify Lauri and JJJ’s issues there as well.
Did a quick glance and the advanced stats (which I know are iffy for defenders) say Lauri’s best defensive season came when he was on the Cavs playing with Mobley and Allen. Very similar profile to what the Jazz will look like next season. But who knows
I wasn’t being dismissive. I asked you to point out what Lauri does well and you changed the subject to JJJ’s rebounding. That’s a classic straw man. I know it’s overused on reddit, but that doesn’t mean it’s not still apt at times.
If you think playing Lauri at the 3 with two other bigs on the court is the road to success for the Jazz we just fundamentally disagree on what winning basketball is in 2026, and that’s fine.
All I’m saying is that if any team is capable of making Lauri at the 3 work, it’d look a lot like a team with the Jazz’s front court. The backcourt defense is the bigger question mark and who knows what this team will look like post draft.
That Cavs team massively over-performed its preseason odds in 21⁄22 with Lauri playing a lot of 3 and I don’t think it’s inconceivable that this could still work in 2026.
Don’t bother, they’re clearly triggered about this for whatever reason lol. They’ll move goalposts for forever.
JJJ has scored zero points for the Finnish national team.
Checkmate.
I made example of framework of a deal. It can be 1 or 3 FRPs. Depending on the value of this years pick
GSW would a 100% trade their lottery pick for Lauri lmao
They absolutely would but they can’t just do it straight up due to salary, so they have to send back \(46M which honestly they just don't have the right matching for. It'd be like, Draymond and a re-signed \)40M/2 year Porzingis plus #7, which I can’t see either team doing.
Hard to gauge. He makes too much money, has very worrisome injury issues and has never played in a game that matters.
With the new lottery rules, it would probably be more of a player based package than a picks one.
He’s shown his ability in meaningful games on his national team.
I wouldn’t be worried about that.
I’d be worried that he’s not a great defender, and is likely nearing a decline in athleticism based on other mobile 7fters.
I think he’d fit well in Detroit playing off of Cade. Also think he’d fit well in Cleveland if they move one of Mobley/Allen.
Yeah I would be most worried about his ability to stay healthy and age tbh. But teams trading for him would 100% use him not having ever played in the playoffs as leverage. And as great as he was for Finland, the national team stuff isn’t really a reliable evaluation for a best of 7 format. We’ve seen a fair number of role players absolutely dominate on their national teams.
Honestly I don’t feel like we can fairly gauge his actual health given the Jazz have been actively tanking and not playing their guys for years. Every player deals with minor injuries throughout the year that they play through but the Jazz seem to use that as an excuse to not play someone who might make them win.
I think he’s one of those guys who is worth more to the team that he’s already on than he is to another team that would be thinking about acquiring him. I think he’s a bad contract. Utah doesn’t need to worry about that though because they have so many guys on rookie contracts. Their books across the team as a whole are just fine. Other teams who would potentially trade for him though do need to worry about his contract, and that leaves a pretty big gap between what they’re willing to offer Utah, and what Utah would be willing to accept to give up a guy who they like and who likes being there.
Maybe it’s a different story in a season or two as that contract gets burnt off, but for the time being I can’t see him going anywhere.
The Bulls can send those pancake eating motherf*ckers 5 future second round picks for their Lauri back. And a kick returner.
Whoops, wrong sport. My bad.
How are those pancakes!
Probably something around AD value. Slightly worse player, but not as much health liability, both got high contracts.
So around 1 Luka.
There is a very long long history of first options on bad teams not performing the same level once they’re on legitimate teams. Meaning that the value is probably less than what one would think considering his numbers.
Lauri is probably at best your 3rd best player on a title winning team. Think Chet but with a little more offense but way less defense.
If they were going to trade him they should’ve done so like two years ago. Okc probably would’ve given a haul for him a few years back.
He certainly a good player but I’m not quite sure what he would draw at that salary,
This years late pick & couple of lotto protected first rounders?
I feel like he’s similar value to MPJ
I’d take MPJ and his significantly lower contract than Lauri. Lauri hasn’t played meaningful ball in a long time. There’s significant risk he won’t survive a full season, let alone a playoff run. At least we’ve seen MPJ play playoff ball recently and be impactful on a championship team.
It’s the crux of being on bad teams for so long. You just don’t know what he is anymore
Lauri hasn’t played meaningful ball in a long time.
Probably not since college.
29 years old, extreme injury risk, hasn’t accomplished anything of note either individually or at a team-level, and beat case scenario has proven himself to a be fringe all-star type of player.
I mean he’s hardly a superstar. Look at how few minutes he’s played this year..,
It’s probably not as high as it was 2-3 years ago, mostly because they’ve been tanking and he hasn’t been allowed to go ham and actually try to win games…but I imagine he’d still net the Jazz a pretty nice return. Decent player + young prospect + 1-2 late 1sts would be my guess.
Only problem is Ainge is never letting him go, and iirc Lauri was pretty happy to stay in Utah and just coast to hundreds of millions of dollars.
My pelicans would gladly give up theirs.
…shit.
Utah screwed up. 2 years ago they had other teams knocking on the door wanting to make a deal for Lauri, but the Jazz asked for 2 arms, 2 legs, and a kidney. When he was worth maybe 1 arm, 1 leg, and a couple fingers.
Now he’s on this huge contract that makes other teams hesitant.
they didnt trade him in all the years they were tanking just to trade him now that they traded for a star big man? yea that makes sense
It’s too late to trade Lauri. He’s a year older and his value already peaked. Similar to Ja
I’d say hes worth 1 Jalen Duren.
Austin Reaves and a future 1st for Markeren
Actually kind of like that.
[deleted]
I’m not sure he’s ever been on a team that’s trying to win. It would be nice to see him on a team with a real shot to make a deep playoff run.
I absolutely agree I would like to see that too
Well hes on a tanking team for the past couple years where they literally would pull him out in the 4th quarters just to lose. But he easily has the potential and we’re gonna see next season on how the jazz does.
He prioritises his/his families happiness over winning.
Whether that’s having no drive or not depends on how you view it I guess.
But he’s indisputably been a player who’s helped the Jazz to wins since they had him, and seems like a great team mate. Him dragging them to wins is why he gets benched so often.
Lauri and the 2026 2nd overall for the 2026 1st overall and cap space filler
He was a value commodity a few years ago because he was a good value. Now, he isn’t. I think Utah is going to waste this guy’s prime, at least as far as him ever being on a team that’s a contender.
42,47,55,66,61,51,50,52,68. These are the number of games he has played each year while avoiding being called street clothes.
He’s a great player when he’s available. I wouldn’t trade a first for him unless it was a late first and there was a salary reason to do it.
I think that’s mostly because he’s been “injured” more than injured.
We were mega tanking for two seasons, and light tanking for two before that, so if he had so much as a sore back he was benched lol.
I agree that’s part of it. He’s a much more reliable player on the world stage than in the NBA.
