the team didnt even name it, it went viral because of one tony wroten quote getting picked up by everyone. Hinkie never even said “trust the process” as far as i know. They didn’t brand it either after it blew up and even tried to avoid it once the Colangelos got involved. Isn’t this pretty similar to what Jerry West used to do? Meyers did a pretty great job of finding pieces to fit around the edges and worked really well with Kerr and Lacob, both of which Morey was awful at. The question’s about what happens after there’s a new GM, and he doesn’t say he’s going to control those things, just have input, which is what pretty much every assistant GM does anyway. More likely than not he’ll get someone young and fresh from one of the elite front offices that he has a relationship with and then help out

Probably also has the trust of ownership which matters. Idk why Meyers gets so much hate, the dude made some insane moves to get depth pieces like Barbosa/Livingston/Iggy around the Warriors core and the Warriors were a well-functioning org when he was there, which is probably the biggest knock on Philly. Who cares if he didn’t draft Steph and Klay, there’s a lot more to running an organization than maximizing your eFG%

Pat Riley is POBO. Andy Elisburg does the day to day stuff as GM. Masai Ujiri is going to POBO for the mavs. Mike Schmitz is the GM There are many more examples. It used to be more GM driven as the public face we knew, but over the years that has changed. And in some cases it still exists. Pelinka was the GM for the lakers and now they plan to hire someone under him as he transitions to mainly POBO.

He also signed Steph Curry to the best deal in the history of basketball when most people had written him off as a bust who’d never play 50 games and was too small to play in the league, made the Warriors competitive again, signed Steve Kerr as a coach, and signed a fuck ton of role players around them, and ownership (i.e. Lacob) was the main driver behind the two timelines stuff

Most GM’s have occassional rifes with ownership and make mistakes. Presti traded Harden away instead of amnestying Perkins, repeatedly drafted big athletes with wingspans over skilled decision makers (both him and KD have spoken about this being a source of tension a bunch of times), and didn’t even want to do the PG trade to LA. None of that changes the fact that he’s run the organization incredibly well, built a culture and has had unbelievable signings and draft vision
