[Spears] The Golden State Warriors would prefer to not trade away their No. 11 overall draft selection.
Feels like a Bulls level drop-off will be coming for the Warriors after Steph retires.
Just returning to business as usual then in Golden State?
4 rings in 7 years is worth it
For many franchises, mine included, a single ring in 40 years would be worth it.
Same. Wouldn’t mind seeing the Wolves in a decade long playoff drought again if Ant manages to get a ring.
On the contrary, I also wouldnt mind ant getting 4 rings in the next 7 years
I’d even take 1 in 60
Best I can do for Philly sports is a repeat of 2022.
Fuck Philly (except the flyers - there’s always an exception)
Can confirm
Same
Same (nuggets).
Mavs still riding 2011 high as if it were yesterday.
It does help when you went from Dirk Nowitzki, to Luka Doncic to Cooper Flagg.
At least you are not the Bullets/Wizards after their championship drought.
I mean John Wall was there, it just didn’t pan out unfortunately. But yeah mavs fans have it well in terms of who they got to draft.
One in my lifetime would be nice.
Lol. This is how I felt after the warriors first championship in 2015. Everything after was luxury.
Seeing the Kings win 1 title in 100 years of my life would be worth it
In the grand scheme of things, the dynasty’s overwhelming success should satiate fans for at least another 2 decades
As a bay area sports fan I’ve come to accept that I have probably seen all the Giants and Warriors championships that I will see in my lifetime. I’m just hoping all the 49ers superbowls in my lifetime didn’t happen by the time I was 17 and that I get to see Macklin and crew get one for the Sharks.
7 championships since 2010, you don’t deserve a winning season in any of the major 4 for the rest of your life if I’m being honest.
That was an amazing decade.
Crazy and blessed that it happened enough that my friends and I had a “traditional victory celebration” pupusa spot (random the 1st time).
Afterglow will be happy for another 2 decades. Only wish is that one of the 4 teams wins one sometime in next 30 years since my young kids were all too young (not born) to watch/celebrate those rings, so that there’s something to celebrate and go to together with them.
Stanford Fball and the Niners were also really good. Really spoiled during that time. Everybody in the office hated me for it
Macklin looks like a generational star so we got a good shot there. Otherwise things probably looking bleak in the bay elsewhere until we find another curry / bumgarner / Montana / rice type of generational player for another Bay Area dynasty. The 49ers definitely blew their chances a few times recently which doesn’t help matters
Niners still have Shanalynch so they have a shot. Toughest division in football with 3 top tier young coaches so it’ll be an uphill battle but they’ve managed to field competitive teams every year
I don’t know about the last but we’re definitely spoiled now. I’m basically good forever with both teams. Just don’t care about failure anymore.
And yet if you listen to fans here (I live in the bay), it hasn’t even made the last two years worth it.
People become spoiled when they’re used to greatness. I’m a Spurs fan and when we were winning 48 games and making the playoffs with DeRozan you would think we are winning 15 games and getting blown out by 80 every night with how much the city was moaning after 20 plus straight years of winning 50 plus games
I’m convinced that the preferred state of things for most sports fans is actually just misery.
Oh it definitely is, look at the sheer amount of bitching about literally anything imaginable on this sub.
If you talk to fans who lived through the dark years before the run you won’t get that answer. There are way too many bandwagon fans of this team who are just spoiled. I feel sorry for them.
it’s partially just natural, not necessarily bandwagons. There are a lot of fans now (most fans age 20 and under) who didn’t follow basketball until steph was an all star. When all you know is healthy Warriors = postseason appearance, you’re not gonna be as comfortable with some losing seasons.
True. I guess living through cycles gives one more perspective. I became a fan in 1974 so my intro was championship level play to, but unfortunately it was followed by complete disintegration. Immediate perspective.
really depends on the fan but the this sounds like a vocal minority. keep in mind, some “fans” couldn’t name 5 players not named steph or dray. just bc they can afford merch and lower bowl seats doesn’t mean they’re real fans
I mean my source is listening to sports radio here.
Which isn’t exactly known for having sane people, but it’s still a substantial population.
im not super familiar with radio but i would consider that a vocal minority. from what ive heard it can be very reactionary.
most fans i know are satisfied with the 4 rings, of course we would want to be competitive every year but rings and some down years beats being in the playoffs every year.
The people calling into sports radio are generally pretty nutty
We lived 4 decades between rings. And the 4 rings were totally worth it.
This is what I tell my friends who haven’t been stuck with this team their entire life. Like dude, I’m set. We could lose 60 games every year for the rest of my life, and my main memory on my deathbed will be 2014-2019. My buddy who’s a sixers fan would kill for just one year of what we had.
Yea. I was around for all the “who can we draft to possibly get the 8th seed in the playoffs one of these years???”
Man my dream as a child was to make the playoffs once. THAT seemed far-fetched enough for an 8 year old boy to daydream about
That’s nice. I’ll be deciding between taking my hatred of the Maloofs or Vivek/Vlade to my deathbed.
Like dude, I’m set.
That’s how I felt after the Seahawks finally won a super bowl but after like 10 years I was hungry again. Then we randomly won it out of nowhere w/ Darnold at QB???
The Warriors would be sitting bottom section of Forbes valuation list if it wasn’t for Steph. No championships, no move to SF/Chase Center (only part of the alternate timeline I’d prefer), not even close to $10B. Meanwhile, you had Lacob constantly talking about #Lightyears as if anything he did other than sign checks meant ANYTHING.
Don’t get me wrong, a round of applause to Joe and the rest of the ownership group for investing record-breaking payrolls to keep the team together. But anything other than that…none of it amounted to much. It was all Wardell
Seriously, yall experienced what only 2-3 franchises have ever experienced from a competitiveness standpoint. Bulls in the 90s, Lakers in 2000s, Spurs from late 90s to mid 2010s.
Ngl I’m still just salty that we got our asses beat in the Kawhi era lol. The run yall had is indisputably one of the two greatest ever (alongside MJ’s Bulls), it was 100% worth it and I highly doubt yall will stay down and out for long.
can confirm
It was much more than that tbh
And hey maybe tickets will be somewhat more affordable
It was an absolutely bonkers stretch
we used to have quite literally one of the worst owners in all of sports history, I don’t think it will be anything like that. I am certain we will make the playoffs more than once in a 17 year span.
a joe lacob who isn’t propped up by steph might be one of the worst owners in all sports
That’s an incredibly dumb take.
Why? Lacob has shown all of the signs of a meddling owner who makes poor decisions. He tried to trade Curry instead of Monta, was going to trade Klay until Jerry West threatened to quit, hired his kids in important positions, by all accounts forced the team to draft Wiseman and Kuminga. The burden of proof is more on him not being a bad owner at this point.
Same for the post-Jordan Bulls, tbh. Sucked before. Sucked after.
Bulls level drop off would be a step up from the pre-Steph era.
damn the truth hurts
40 year championship drought incoming
We were the last dynasty in the modern NBA.
Worth it.
Yep. No one has sustained high end success with the current contract stuff. We shall see how long OKC can keep it up , they have some hard choices this off season and then in a year SGA gonna get a raise too
The choices this year aren’t that hard. It’s Dort and wiggins to get under the second apron. Kenrich Williams is also on a team option I believe. The year after gets hard.
Kenrich is gone 1000%
You realize Caruso and Hartenstein are as good as gone after this next year right?
OKCs cap is going to be 90% in SGA, Chet, and JDub. They’re going to have to hope to Christ their upcoming draft picks hit and contribute immediately.
Yes, that is why I said the year after this year gets hard.
Who cares if that is 90% of the cap when that is a winning trio. Guys will want to join for a chance of a ring.
Their insane depth is why they are in guaranteed contention
lol
Honestly there’s no guarantee they’ll offer jdub a max, they’ve still been winning without him for large portions of this season. Wouldn’t be totally out of left field if they traded him before then.
He’s already been offered and signed the max last offseason lol
Bruh what are you talking about
Love when mfers pop off and know literally zero about what they’re saying
Have we moved to the postmodern NBA? If the Thunder win this year are they an avant garde dynasty instead?
I think you gotta have at least 3 titles to be a dynasty. No one talks about the pistons or rockets dynasty and they both won back to back
The comment was on the absurdity of declaring the warriors the “last modern dynasty” rather than what constitutes a dynasty but sure…
If the Thunder win the next two are they the first avant garde dynasty?
Sure.
Dada dynasty
Art Deco Dynasty in the (20)20s.
Yeah I’m not even trying to be mean just more interesting that it’s so hard to sustain success even after historical runs. You can’t just live off the momentum forever. Which I hate them but does make the Lakers and Celtics multiple runs impressive, with completely different rosters and front offices etc.
Most recent*
i would like to point out to everyone that Spears has no sources inside the Warriors anymore and has been wrong about reporting on them for years now
Yeah they might just perennially be in the playin like the Bulls were. Could you imagine that? Oh wait
Are you saying our peak rivaled the Bulls run? 😊
Warriors peak was the greatest of all time
73 win season which would have been a title if not for Harrison Barnes going 5-32 shooting (15.6%) in Games 5,6,7.
And then they replaced Barnes with prime Kevin Durant. Going 16-1 in the 2017 Playoffs. And in 2017⁄2018 seven of their eight playoff series were either a 4-0 or 4-1 dominations.
They hold the record for the best 3-year stretch in NBA history with three consecutive 67+ win seasons. What a crazy team.
Laying sole blame on harrison barnes is crazy lmao
I know people like shitting on them but they actually have a smart and well run front office. Way different than who ran them before. Just look at the Valkyries.
It might be worse tbf
The new draft rules work well for us because we’ll likely be terrible but not terrible enough to seriously tank.
Seems like a fair trade that I think any fandom would kill for.
Yeah, four rings and an insanely dominant run as inarguably the greatest team of its era? I’ll make that trade every time. The last decade of Warriors basketball has been an absolute dream.
There will be a bucket load of money to overspend on a David Lee type of free agent. The question is whether they’ll get a high level talent from draft as Warriors used to be terrible with their picks.
Watch them be like the Spurs where they will be very lucky in the lottery.
As a Bulls fan i thought it was impossible for a franchise to be mismanage worse than post Jordan bulls but the warriors are setting themselves up for it
bro it already happening
Back to who they were
They gonna go back to what they were before Steph
Three timelines??
fuck it lets play 4d chess and create the Cannon Curry timeline
“Hello, Klay Thompson Jr.”
Klaygan Thee Thompson
They broke up already
but she could be carrying his baby!
People clown on the two timelines, but it really could have worked if they didn’t completely miss on the #2 pick with Wiseman.
Which is why people laugh at the 2 timelines
Yeah if you talk about 2 timelines and then draft Wiseman, Kuminga and Moody people are going to laugh
Luckily Steph is god and we somehow won a ring with a super fun but flawed roster so I can just laugh at the 2 timelines memes
That ring looks more and more impressive after these last few seasons…
It further showed he is on a different level
People clown on drafting Darko, Thabeet, Bagley #2, but it really could have worked if they didn’t completely miss on the #2 pick
We will continue to clown on it.
Ya it’s done before. The spurs did it with Duncan and Robinson
in this economy?
I feel they are saying this to make sure they have some leverage in trade talks, they are still going to trade it
They’ll do the same thing they do every time. Say they won’t trade guys or picks, offer them anyway, and nobody bites because they don’t value our assets very highly. In the end they’ll run it back with a similar mediocre roster around Steph and best case scenario win a first round series by the power of Steph
The warriors front office has made a series of braindead moves and despite their best efforts they won’t be able to dig themselves out of this hole. This franchise will bottom out fully after Steph retires
Hey 2022 happened. Steph could have a tiger masters like run for a month if they get some decent defenders
Out of GSW’s last 15 FRP’s (2032 - 2018), they have only traded 3 of them. Top 4 protected, top 10 protected, top 20 protected. They do not like to trade their FRP’s, much to their detriment.
What a load of shit. If it means getting a player that might actually play in the playoffs (should they make it), they would trade that pick with no hesitation.
This is a good draft, but it’s not an 11 player draft.
You’re right, it’s a 60 player draft
And the 18 year old they select at 11 won’t help them win a title. I’m assuming that’s the point, with Curry on the team? If the goal is to make the play-in, then they can take the pick and develop the prospect.
The Warriors are so far away from a winning a title. Everyone in the organization front office/coach/players have acknowledged this. Curry said it best they need to get away from this championship or bust mentality and get back to just playing winning basketball. With that mindset I don’t think they are going to trade the 11th pick just to get a veteran/rotational player unless they end up getting a star player for it.
Well, if everyone is on board, then I stand corrected.
Curry seems like the kind of guy that would be happy retiring with the Warriors having some good young talent that can help the team be relevant and eventually back in the race.
Where they’re at now, it is what it is. They had an incredible run that changed the game. It was fun and also frustrating to watch happen 😅
They could be the Yaxel team. He’s 23.
Nah. We should trade up and get yaxel. Fits us nicely and we could care less if he’s a bit older.
He’s not a character guy, and Presti has been very strong about drafting character guys.
Is he a dickhead? I never looked up anything regarding that
There’s a report about maturity issues, practice habits, and his ability to stay motivated. It may be smoke but it’s enough for me to say no.
Start him on lining up those balls and go from there.
Could be. Presti will know best.
In what world would that be the point? They are nowhere near contending. There is nothing they can do to get to contending next year
Statistically not likely, but with the human ability to improve and things like intangibles and chemistry we don’t know what’s gonna happen lol, it’s possible.
What does it matter at this point no player they get by trading the pick will win them a championship
get steph as many wins as he can, who knows when the next homegrown dynasty is gonna happen (it’s the spurs by the end of the decade)
Dumb opinion. If this is the attitude just trade Steph if the team isnt even pretending to be competitive
Idk any team with Steph Curry is almost automatically a contender in my eyes, as long as Curry is playing I feel like you are in Win Now mode, especially since statistically it is very unlikely you draft a franchise cornerstone at pick 11. I understand it a bit when it comes to the lottery picks, but at 11 it seems like you need to send that away for some immediate help
Steoh Curry will be 39 next season and he’s not very durable anymore. Be for fucking real here
They didn’t even make the playoffs…
This is always said by someone that is clearly not in their 30s 😂
They should just blow it up at this point and build for the future.
As long as Curry and Kerr are there, it’s full steam ahead
As long as Steph wants to stay, there is no real point. And the new lotto format may honestly help this mid ass team. They’ve been stuck in the play-in more times than not the past 6yrs, the new 1-16 draw with those seriously flattened odds gives them a solid shot to move up in any given year. Not worth trying to be bad just to be bad under the new system, .500 win teams have a great chance of vaulting up the draft order.
Does it make sense on paper to ship off Steph to a contender for an absolute haul? Yeah sure, but fuck that, dude means everything and more to the team.
e: Even if they bottomed out and hit the rebuild button, the West is stacked with young, budding talent. Gonna take a long ass time for the Dubs to be anything more than what they currently are, their best shot at doing anything these next 5-10 years is rolling the dice and hoping their old (OLD) vets can find some health.
Spurs with a young core of Wemby/Harper/Castle all 22yrs or younger. OKC in their heyday led by a 27yo SGA, 25yo JDub, 24yo Chet, 23yo Ajay, and more in the pipeline. Lakers with a 27yo Doncic and Reaves. Minnesota with a 24yo Ant and McDaniels/Naz. Mavs with Flagg, Lively, and likely a mid lotto guard. Jazz about to be with Peterson (or Dybantsa), Keyonte/Ace, and a great looking front court led by a 28yo Lauri and 26yo JJJ. Memphis about to be with Boozer/Coward+. Even if they started their rebuild now, there is no gurantee they get a player better than any of those guys over the next 5+ years (guess they’d likely get a good player back in the Steph trade, but still).
Dubs are going to be shit out of luck for a while, lot of the good teams in the West have stars just entering their primes (if not a few years away). No rush to blow it up, at least not with how the next two draft classes are looking and the new lotto system. The downswing will come, already pretty much has, but it’ll get worse and stay worse for a while… at least they’ll have okay odds in the lotto.
They’ll eventually have cap space though, and they’ll eventually have more high picks to take some swings (Dunleavy seems to be a much better drafter than Myers). May as well just have Curry walk off into the sunset and let the rebuild come naturally.
Its free agency suicide to trade the undisputed Franchise GOAT, drafted with the team, who was dog ass before he got here, brings in 4 chips, and wants to compete for what he can with the same team in old age.
The unfortunate part about the new format is most draft people say the next two draft classes are not very good at the top. So jumping up in this lottery would be like 2024, you can still get a great player but no like top tier can’t miss type prospects. Not saying there are no good players or no one can pop off but that’s the word and part of the reason why the tank off was so intense this year
Totally agree, see a lot of pundits are saying the same. I do find the new system pretty interesting, but yeah, assume tanking was so loud/blatant this year because the class was so stacked.
Still, doesn’t hurt to have a better chance to move up if they finish with 35+ wins…. unless they end up drafting another Wiseman-type because they thought a Haliburton-type was too much of a “reach”
There’s no guarantee of any future, they have the best show in sports on their team still and should field a competitive team regardless
I want Yaxel on OKC but he’d be a good fit in Golden State. He’s exactly what Kerr wanted Kuminga to be and they need athletes
I don’t think they’re getting through another regular season if they add more uncs
Yeah, I kinda like Marc Spears but when I see his name, I wonder if it’s actually sourced info or a lot of heavy speculation.
Not saying there’s going to be superstars at 11 but this is definitely an 11 player draft. Theres multiple quality players that should be available there, if they REALLY want to play for now then they can always take Yaxel which would be the second true forward on the team while Jimmy is out and would be competing with Gui Santos for minutes.
They are trading this pick
I wouldn’t trade it either
Yaxel, Johnson, Mara, burries, quaintence, etc
Lot of game changing young guys that could be at 11 and help them now and in the future
I would prefer to keep them on the bench, stack up DNPs
I wouldn’t mind those 2030 warriors picks…
The Warriors have zero chance of contending so they need to use their picks for young talent.
Call me crazy but if they can somehow luck into everyone being healthy next season a core of Steph, dray, butler, KP, and LeBron would be a very scary team. Feel like they should be the team that makes moves for bron.
KP is cooked brother. Butler we have to see, torn ACL at 36 is pretty rough.
They need Podz, Moody, Gui to turn into Jdub, Ajay and McCain to be competitive next year.
Look I agree it’s a don’t tell me the odds situation but they are going nowhere with this team and realistically they should be rebuilding but that won’t start until Steph retires. Give it a go with 5 dudes who might retire in the next 2 years and when it doesn’t workout just rebuild.
lol. No one makes you trade a pick. You trade it or you don’t. “Prefer not?” Then don’t.
Steph Curry could probably make them trade it
Time to start tanking for Canon Curry
Good now draft another tyrese haliburton /s
rookie doesnt mean bad. you can get a cmb at 9 and he’ll be your 3rd best player or i guess you can get a wiseman oof
1000% belive you’re all wrong on this. I think they would be willing to package it in for a Annthony Davis/ Gianni’s type package but only if it’s good. They will negotiate if the price is fair . What about Tyler herro for the 11th or Powell+Wiggins for the 11? GSW know curry is low key pressuring them
don’t think the heat would take back jimmy (assuming he’s the one getting moved) even if he is an expiring
Just trade it. GS obviously cannot draft OR develop talent and is unwilling to unload Steph and start a rebuild. WHAT ARE YALL DOING GS???
There’s nothing in Golden State’s pre-Curry history to suggest they are going to amount to much of anything post-Curry. So while they have one of the greatest still playing they may as well just go for it.
Crazy that Steph could have won 5⁄6 rings if the Warriors kept going all in during his timeline.
That guy could be klay Thompson for all we know!
They probably were getting dogwater returns. No shot that was their first decision.
They need to sabotage Caleb Wilson so he falls nine of ten spots then.
Why would they trade it? They are a rebuilding team lying publicly about competing. It’s a lie.
You are a Warriors Jerami Grant!
When’s the last time the warriors were able to develop a prospect anyways
So they’ll trade Steph instead?
I thought it was Fred Armisen for a second there
smokescreen, they are going to trade the pick.
Another bust incoming
Run it back LeBron! Otherwise Wemby is gonna win back-to-back chips.
Three timelines!
Yaxel to the dubs is great especially with Al horford there rn
If you have steph on your team, you need to do whatever you can to surround him with talent, even if you have to over pay for Giannis you do it because you have steph and he deserves that, if the team gets hampered after so be it
They dont have enough assets to trade for Giannis.
Jimmy Pick 11 and one or two pick swaps is pretty good assuming not many other teams go all-in with young players (like an OKC trying to pass multiple picks + S&T Hartenstein + Ajay Mitchell) or something
It would have to be Jimmy and every pick and swap they can possibly trade. We already know a bunch of teams are going to bid on him.
the bucks rejected a trade package of jimmy + 8 years worth of picks and swaps at the deadline
