You’re overestimating both the intelligence of GM’s, and the love of gambling they mostly all share. Some team without a concrete center would love to get a 20p-10r, crazy athletic 22yo center; even if he only shows up in the regular season. A better phrasing is maybe “no GM should be throwing that much money at a guy like that.” But GM’s get tunnel vision, especially the worse ones.
i know it’s the nature of sports “what have you done for me recently” but it’s pretty crazy how a 5-10 game sample size at the end of the year might disrupt the 82 games he’s been displaying thru out the season. it’s like balling out 11⁄12 months of the year at work, having 2 bad weeks right before Christmas (for whatever reason), and then not only getting a shit EOY bonus but also getting your future base salary $$ re negotiated as a result

I had high hopes for him too but I don’t really get the Dwight comparison. Dwight is a DPOY, one of the best rim protectors in the history of the game while still being a passable switch big. Duren’s biggest weakness is his defense.
