I kinda get the mentality, though. In a league like the NBA, a guy like Brunson probably clearly sees the difference between him and the superstar physical behemoths that sit atop the league. From his perspective, he’s probably just recognizing his own limitations and playing within them.

He’s at worst a top ten player in the league and a great leader. Even if this Knicks team never makes a finals he’ll be remembered for a long time.

Yeah it was something about diminishing returns on great players. You bring in guys like Mikal and OG for their closeout attacking + off the dribble game. If you use brunson and kat as pure advantage creators, then pass that advantage to the supporting players, you maximize the strengths of this Knicks roster.

When coach Ott started here, they asked him about his system and how his players fit into it. And his response was “my system is the players.” And I think what he meant by that is, you find out what each player can do, and you find a way to fit it all together so that you get their full potential. Grayson Allen can beat a lot of guys driving to the basket (unfortunately none of the Thunder defenders), but he was never allowed to do that. Brooks can bully ball a lot of guys. Etc. We had a lot of dudes have career years last season.

Like Mikal and OG aren’t running the offense, but they’re both great cutters with decent handles that don’t need much of an advantage to finish the play. If their defenders take half a step to help guard KAT or Brunson, that’s really all they need to score.

Read the title again. Hes been played off the ball more. His role his reduced on the ball exactly like the title says lol. It does not say hes shooting less. The offense was tweaked to move the ball around more. hes still getting the ball and scoring but hes not running the offense with the ball in his hands.
