Yeah Harper is so good. Fits the team mentality and for a highly touted rookie, was very under control aeven though he was managed a lot.

Yeah, we have to somehow offload Rudy for Giannis. I legitimately think that’s the only way we match up against okc and San Antonio better. We got Rudy to beat jokic and he has. These skinny ass centers are faster, taller, and more athletic. Rudy can’t do hardly anything with the ball in his hands against these teams.

It’s wild how some guys rise under pressure and some guys can’t. I don’t know how you measure thay coming out of college, but I guess that’s part of being good at your job if you’re a scout.

The argument was that Kon would complement the existing stars a lot better than Harper would. Both Steph and Fox like getting into the paint so having an elite shooter to kick out to would open the offense up a lot.

It more to do with the hole in their lineup that Kon fills great. But Harper is just clearly going to be a superstar so you take that ¹⁰⁄₁₀

Pretty much, lol when you got DeAaron Fox giving you 18 then Harper putting up Dejounte Murray like numbers but with higher potential, you tend to take a small backseat for the interm. He’ll probably average those numbers as soon as he gets the role to do so.

I got down voted to hell several times on this sub the last couple months for saying Harper still goes two in a redraft

It was more so said a lot in January because Harper hit the rookie wall and the Spurs’ shooting had fallen off a cliff while Kon’s shooting was helping the Hornets turn their season around. There were even some Spurs fans wondering why we opted for Harper when we needed shooting. Around February, Harper started to get back into a groove again, and it became very apparent that he still far and away has a higher ceiling than Kon. There were still some doubters like KOC late in the season, but even KOC finally changed his mind after Harper’s game-saving performance in round 1.

The Spurs were in the Eastern Conference until 1980, so there’s precedent.

Fun fact: for their first 3 years in the NBA, the Spurs were actually in the eastern conference.

This was so despite being further west than the western conference’s Kansas City Kings, Milwaukee Bucks, and Chicago Bulls.

Great point—it also helps massively when two of those guards are 6’6, hellacious and versatile defenders (both can easily guard 1-3 but Castle has also shown the latter half of this season that he can even defend much bigger post players effectively) and both rapidly addressing their biggest question mark of 3 point shooting reliability.

That combined with Wemby’s insane size/mobility and two way gravity unlocks what feels like unlimited lineup combinations.

I think even if J dub played up to his trajectory, we have to start acknowledging that if you have a 3rd who’s also a DPoY level rim protector, that’s your 2nd best/most important player in 90% of situations.

Regardless I think it’s ridiculous to say and a massive overreaction. SGA is knocking on the door to becoming a top 15 player of all time and is doing things we haven’t seen a guard do since Kobe and MJ. Saying Dylan Harper’s ceiling is a top 15 player and 2x MVP imo is ridiculous.

Except for the fact he plays on the same team as Wemby lol. A) Wemby will probably be winning virtually every MVP he’s eligible for starting in the next 1-2 years. B) a 2nd best player on his own team will never win MVP even if Wemby isn’t eligible or doesn’t win.

Wemby would have to miss basically (or literally) the whole season and Harper still lead the Spurs to 60 wins at some point to even have a slight chance. Or get traded to a different team

I also think Harper gets some really big benefits that Castle and Fox don’t. Harper is coming off the bench and playing against other bench players. Wemby, Fox, and Castle also demand a lot of defensive attention, so Harper is free to be a secondary playmaker and less pressure to be the number one option.

I love Harper and thrilled we got him, but I do think he also gets some benefits right now from his role. But the kids is already a stud no doubt

The NBA is an outlier league. If you don’t draft or sign one of the 30-40 greatest players ever you are not winning a championship in all likelihood.
