Wemby on early exchange with Dosunmu: “I feel like the rage baiting would have been one of their strategies.”
That kind of early tension usually says more about playoff intensity than anything else, when both teams are locked in, even small exchanges start looking bigger than they are.
Yeah exactly playoff energy turns every little moment into a headline, even when it’s just competitive talk and adrenaline.
SGA pointing at dillon brooks after he scored on him had headlines like “SGA FLIPS OFF DILLON BROOKS”. the sensationalism is dialed up to eleven during playoffs period
That’s different because nobody likes either of those guys.
yep, feeling insecure
I mean, yeah. But what’s that got to do with this?
true though
Yeah, that’s pretty much how playoff media works normal competitive moments get amplified into dramatic headlines for clicks. On the court it’s just heat-of-the-moment intensity, but once it hits social media it turns into a whole storyline.
Yeah, it’s actually pretty exciting this is the kind of intensity that makes big games fun to watch. Everyone’s locked in, emotions are high, and it just adds to the atmosphere without crossing the line.
>even small exchanges start looking bigger than they are.
I kind of disagree about this particular incident. Ayo bumped into victor, pushed him and grabed his arm causing a delay of game on the Wolves. IMMEDIATELY afterwards Victor got a nasty open lane dunk, causing Finch to call a time out. I am 100% positive Finch told the players to shut the fuck up and leave Victor alone because he was feeding off of it.
It was pretty pivotal tbh.
Rage baiting has gone mainstream.
Always thought it was just a mostly online term
There is no such thing as offline at this point
Everything is computer
my peener?
Might as well be virtual since no one is ever going to feel it.
Microcomputer
Believe it or not, computer.
Can’t compute numbers that small yet unfortunately.
Hey kid! I’m a computer!
OK Computer
hi everything
Because the Internet
As an older redditor I hate that you’re right.
Everyone is online now, my 78 yr old father browses his phone during commercials
Yeah my dad used to do the whole “this generation is always in their phones” now anytime I’m over there he is always staring at his phone.
That’s crazy
Wemby is 22 years old and uses social media, I’d guess he’s pretty familiar
I more so mean it’s a term used online. Not that I’m surprised he knows the term exists.
There are alot of terms people say on here that I would never actually use in real life conversation.
Do you think Wemby knows what a heckin doggo is?
I have no clue what a heckin doggo is tbh. First I’m hearing it
Holy shit Wemby is a pistons fan
He’s not a lame white person in their 40s so probably not
Wemby shit on redditors a while back. He is online haha
I love the idea that Wemby might be on this very thread
Wemby knowing what rage baiting is but not knowing what a flagrant 2 means is hilarious.
Gen Z doesn’t know Gen Z things?
Look at our president man, are you retirement age?
What? Im 26
Bless your offline heart
I’m literally online at this very second
Gen Z is infiltrating our culture whether you like it or not
Im 26 so thats fine. Im not shocked he’s online or knows the term.
My point was it’s funny hearing any mostly online phrase in mainstream media
Can’t wait to hear an NBA player make fun of SGA for aura farming
Oxford University’s “Word of the Year” 2025 was rage bait (as a singular term). Aura farming was a runner up. Online and offline phrases are blending together. Memes also play a large part in encouraging social attitudes accepting of online slang in irl settings as they referenced irl.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say “aura farming” irl.
I know it’s massively popular online but I honestly can’t think of a real life example of someone saying it in conversation.
I have heard a number of NBA players say they watch Flight react to their games including Castle. Also like half the league streams at this point.
Great Denzel movie that I feel has gotten a little forgotten
I was drunk! I’m drunk right now
I feel the castle and mcdaniels ejection is going to happen.
they’ll both foul out first
that would be mcdaniels biggest contribution in this series if it happens
Bros a jokic merchant. Too bad Vic is just ever so slightly better at defense than Jokic
[deleted]
expand on that
Dookie, Doo-Doo, Jobbie
He intentionally threw an elbow at an opponents head
He acts like a shit what else do you want?
He stinky
I’m waiting for the return of EL CODAZO
Bro El Codazo had me dying. I need a shirt with that poster on it.
I gotchu
Fair warning I don’t know if this site is real or not. A lot of online stores nowadays sell products that don’t exist.
Why they only give him one hand??
The ai slop special
Tik Tok generation has taken over the NBA
Meanwhile Jared McCain: ☺️🌈🕺✨
I like that he takes his time to answer
Thinking before we speak is a skill that a lot of us don’t have
I still always get jump scared when he opens his mouth and is french
It’s the deep voice and French. Most native francophone dudes got that slightly high always nasally sound.
Fr*nch scares most people
I appreciate you censoring slurs
It did work last game just not tonight seems like that was the whole wolves plan get wemby ejected also what was finch just allowing the wolves to brick 3s for like 5 minute straight
When rage baiting is too obvious it’s hard to fall for, hence the term “rage bait used to be believable”
There is an art to rage baiting as well 🌹
They didn’t bother going at the rim just pull up from the 3 and get back on D
It also helped the refs set the tone early with what is getting called. I didnt see the Wolves pulling on arms angle throwing elbows as much this game. It really shows that when the Wolves are not allowed to play dirty, the Spurs win.
Don’t recall any Wolves players getting ejected for Flagrant 2 elbows to the neck…
Not that Wemby is a dirty player or Spurs are a dirty team, but there’s not some morally superior team here. Spurs are just the better team.
They weren’t prepared for Game 1, and lost Wemby Game 4. I think they’ll win in 6. But talking about “dirty” is goofy all things considered
I recall many players getting in foul trouble early, and also a bs tech that probably wasn’t warranted, Wemby crashing out basically ended up with a better whistle for him this game, not sure if that will carry over, I understand letting them play but it has gone too far imo and now they might compensate too much the other way, or not, but it’s a bed of their own making (the refs and the league)
Exactly. Wolves thought theyd catch a soft whistle and got walloped in the first quarter before they adjusted.
Ragebaiting
Ethical basketball
The man is a redditor
Seemed to be more of just your typical NBA trash talking.
Nah bro
that was a bitch move by ayo
Ayo was laughing while doing it, it wasn’t serious.
But it looks like Ayo rage baited you
Not as big of a bitch move as Wemby did to Naz
he had that coming as does your cheap shot mf sengun
This sub is insufferable
I really like how wemby actually takes a moment to think before answering any questions. Nowadays people getting interviewed always reply fast and most of the time is the same repetitive generic answers which they are trained to give. Plus many people might consider a pause awkward and time is money anyway.
It’s kinda refreshing to see someone actually think before answering. Kudos to Wemby.
Does ‘release’ in the context of this question refer to him releasing his elbow into naz reid’s throat or are we missing something else hes referring to? Thats such a weird way to say that
Did you notice how many fans wanted him suspended for protecting himself? Everyone is scared of him. Thunder Floppers are scared the most. He is high IQ and has been upgraded with elbow mode now.
And you can always use your elbows and the league always turns the blind eye
Wemby knows the team is only built to beat the Nuggets and Wolves roster is starting to realize it.
It is wild they’ve been to the WCF twice and their only good series wins are vs the Nuggets
Yel 4-1 against Luka v Mavs and 4-1 against OKC last year.
They only can hoist up a banner for beating Nuggets twice. No rings will be won during the Wemby era.
I mean I wouldn’t call 4-1 against Golden State, 4-1 against Luka/Lebron last year meaningless. They’re absolutely built to compete if Donte doesn’t pop his achilles
lol Steph was injured and that lakers roster was jacked tf up due to the Luka trade. Literally no good wins except the nuggets.
This dude shouldn’t have been playing today if he was anyone other than the golden child.
Shannon did the same thing against Jokic. Wolves do this often. Comes off as soft to me, rough up the guy up and down the court and then bait him into retaliating? If you cant beat em, i guess.
We did beat jokic tho. Twice.
Its a good strat, i just cant respect it
brother it kinda worked you got ejected for elbowing a dude in the head like 48 hours ago
Looks like he learned something then
Damn you are everywhere defending Wemby, what are they paying you 😂
Been following him since france when he was little lmao.
All good I’ve just seen you in damn near every thread defending him. Just thought it was funny
Lmao my bad I gotta get off reddit
Same lol
Man wemby got people cucking their franchise I could never imagine a warriors fans supporting the spurs before 2020
The same way a lot of us cheered for curry during his pre KD run. Exciting players are fun to watch and easy to cheer for. No shame in that.
the warriors and spurs have no real rivalry lmao. the only issue I can think of is Zaza’s dirty close out on Kawhi but most spurs fans have seemed to moved way past that now
the way this sub defends probably the most dirty play of the decade is insane lmao. Had that been anyone else it would have been over.
It was a bad dirty play and he got rightfully ejected, but calling it the dirtiest player of the decade is insane. I literally watched Draymond full force stomp on Sabonis’ chest IN FRONT OF ADAM SILVER like two years ago. Hell, Embiid’s leg pull on Mitchell Robinson (which literally hurt Mitch) was arguably worse than this. Jokic fully ran up the court and hit Marcus Morris so hard from behind while he wasn’t looking that the dude got whiplash.
This was at least on the ball.
In my opinion and full elbow to someone’s head after looking at them is more dirty. Also Sabonis grabbed Draymonds leg first which promoted him to stomp(it doesn’t excuse the stomp but still like not as bad as Wemby)
Too many people are reacting to the super slowed down version and acting like this was a premeditated murder attempt. This happened in like half a second of physical play on the ball.
It was a bad play and deserving of an ejection but saying it was the worst this decade is just ridiculous. Draymond does shit like this multiple times a season.
I still remember when Dray choked Rudy.
One of it not Dray’s first flagrent was elbowing Blake in the neck. Wasn’t even ejected lmao.
Yeah just gotta accept it I guess but I’ll be forever a Wemby hater now lol.
Maybe wait a couple months they’ll be plenty more Wemby haters
Sometimes ya gotta be rage-baited successfully to become aware of it and learn how to avoid it next time
Yeah it did work and they tried it again. Plus Castle is a big rage baiter too. However Wemby was definitely more composed this game.
That was just the weakness leaving his elbow and entering Naz Reid.
Well played. Me gusta.
Which is why they are asking this question about Game 5, not Game 4…
How dense are you?
But like a lot of moves. It only works once against him.
literally
Well it will work plus the frustration without foul calls on pulling jersey, being sweet holding arms, beloved both hands of McDaniels and holding his nutz by Reid 😭
mfs gonna be bringing up this elbow for the next 15 years like Wemby is OJ or some shit I stg. They lost by 30 bro no one cares
https://youtu.be/xEHlXKRgBxE?si=VGqJfWrytzAOIPk7
Watch this video by thinking Basketball. The end part of it. Naz Reid threw multiple elbows at him and had shoved him multiple times earlier.
He wasn’t rage baited into an ejection, he was getting assaulted.
lol
Dosunmu is the last guy trying to rage bait. I am already sick of Wemby’s fake holier than thou act.
Lmao
Man if you got to hate, hate on something real?
To be honest, he’s a kid and he’s got more composure than most people on here so I don’t know why bother but on the other hand he’s a kid and shit’s going to happen so the least I can do is point it out when somebody’s being unreasonable
STFU
Ayo is many things, but he is not a rage baiter lol. He’s not even a big talker like that. Idk why he would say that unless he is just trying to aura farm and make himself look like the cooler and more composed person in front of the media
Yeah, if you watch the video closely, he very clearly just ran across the court after the play and bumped into him to ask if Wemby had any good French restaurant recommendations in San Antonio. IDK how anyone could possibly read it differently.
Shit talking is not ragebaiting. If talking shit is rage baiting to you and is capable of making you lose your composure you are soft
What’s the difference between the two?
Larry Bird on-court shit talking vs Lance Armstrong blowing in ears or KG personal attacks
Lance Armstrong lmao
His bicycling career was just so good everyone forgets his short NBA tenure
im high my bad lmfao
You don’t think Bird was trying to get his opponent to react/play emotionally at all?
He bumped into him, pushed him, grabbed his arm then started talking shit. It literally led to a delay of game penalty for the wolves. Why are you talking about a game you didn’t even watch? lmao
Shit talking is ragebaiting by definition. What are you trying to accomplish with trash talk if it’s not getting into your opponent’s head?
I’m not upset by it. It’s part of the game and a completely legitimate strategy after Game 4. Don’t have a problem with Ayo doing it; I’d have thought the Wolves were silly if they didn’t at least try it. But you seem like you’re trying to make a distinction without a difference for absolutely no reason here.
Its not just shit talking. Watch the game, there are too many instances of wemby getting grabbed, held and shoved off ball. More than the threshold for a tech, imo, but refs know you cant foul everyone out. Its not good television.
bro what
So you’re saying you think Wemby looks cool
I don’t think it was intentional but OP has misframed the quote kinda. The Ayo exchange was part of the question but Vic doesn’t seem to be addressing that at all. The full question was about if letting out that energy during game 4 was helpful to keep his composure tonight.
thank you for a measured and informative response about the context of the clip, that makes sense.
It probably went something like “you gonna be throwing elbows tonight?”
Wemby: “yeah but you’re safe little guy”
Soft. Cant beat wemby so they want to remove him from the equation. Ant instantly calls for a tech after that clip btw. Shannon tried to get jokic ejected the same way last series. Wolves aren’t serious.
Wemby loves hearing himself talk
Wemby acting like he’s above rage baiting when he just elbowed a dude in the throat is so eyerolling
He’s recognizing it as a strategy, and something he needs to try to ignore. Your team has been fucking mauling him.
Wemby is the first center in NBA history to get mauled.
God it’s like you guys have never watched an NBA center play before.
They all get mauled. Including your special guy.
I thought I was going to root for either you or the spurs against OKC but Wemby stans are gonna push me to root for OKC if they win this round lmao The lack of self awareness is wild
Like, Gobert, Jokic, and every other elite center end each game looking like they fought a jaguar. That’s just the nature of it.
Oh come on now. Yeah sure they all gets crashed up and shit but he definitely gets it harder because he’s not as big
He doesn’t get it harder, it just effects him more. That’s how physics works.
Fair enough. It just gets tiring. You know to keep hearing from people about how he is this or that.
He’s a fucking kid man. A very well-paid kid. Don’t get me wrong but he’s a kid and I’m kind of looking forward to the monster he comes in a few years
He didn’t act above. He acted on the frustration last game and didn’t let it get to him this time.
Ngl I believe he’s young enough to believe that’s what you’re supposed to do. It wasn’t he got ejected came back improved and did what you’re actually supposed to do
I feel like these days everyone expects everything to be addressed constantly. His punishment was ejection, spurs lost the game, it’s over time to move on.
WTF do you mean eyerolling? Dude was literally getting clawed and clobbered the whole series. Have you not seen his arms bleeding and all scratched up every post game? Im not even a spurs fan but the way you say it like that as if everyone on wolves roster can just get away with anything. Have some shame.
