A muscle tear isn’t really comparable to a complete tendon rupture, though it does depend on the classification.

Muscle tears can be classified as grade 1-3, but also a, b, or c. A grade 2a tear would heal quicker and be less likely to lead to a full rupture compared to a slower healing, grade 2c tear.

He likely did have some form of hamstring injury earlier in the game he injured it in, maybe a grade 1. He was limping and grabbing his hammy after his first layup of the game. I’m guessing he strained it then initially. If he would’ve sad the rest of the game and maybe until the playoffs, this may have all been avoidable.

I’m about 6 months out from a grade 3 tear (2 of the 3 muscles completely torn and retracted) and a failed surgery to repair it. Quite a miserable recovery so far. It’s strange actually “feeling” the missing muscle capacity that I used to have as I try to do the rehab exercises. 

Did you have world class healthcare and unlimited rehab with the best PTs on the planet though? That’s what most people overlook.

It’s not a scratch or a runny nose, but this guy is a class athlete despite the memes. And he doesn’t have to worry about insurance setting caps on the amount of PT sessions he gets. He can eat a perfect diet with all the peripheral gear to assist blood flow and all these other things. He doesn’t have to also go work or do all this other aggravating movement while he’s injured.

They say it’s more severe but they don’t say if it was even grade 3 or 4 either, and if he needs surgery. I think it’ll depend on that, but even if he does it’s not a death sentence. Lots of soccer players get hamstring tears and recover even after surgery.
