Rui is a GREAT shooter from the corners, but is significantly worse above the break. He’s also not really a ball handler or a guy who is going to create his own shot. Drawing up a play for him with 12 seconds left where he’s going to have to either put the ball on the floor or make a pass if the first shot isn’t there probably would have been a bad idea.
They put Maxi in the game because he’s the best screener on the team and both Ayton/Hayes have the IQ of a rock. At the end of the day, Reaves got a good look, and at that point in the game he was 3⁄6 from 3 while Rui was 4⁄8. I’m really not sure why people are making such a big issue out of this

Rui is a spot up shooter, he was not gonna be able to just stand in the corner and be open enough for a shot like he normally is.

He had like 5 turnovers in five minutes. Those turned into a dunk and a 3 on the other end.

Yeah and Rui would have had 15 if he was brining the ball up the floor every possession being hounded by Cason Wallace.
Rui is a much slower shooter, cannot create his shot, is a fairly weak rebounder and a weak screen setter.
There’s an argument to have Rui out, but if the play is to get either Reaves or Kennard a shot and then crash the glass, I’m not mad about making the shot you want easier, rather than having sacrificing the quality of your first option shot for the sake of a third option
Putting Kleber out there was definitely a choice.

It comes down to, you need one play to save your season, do you go with the hot hand who is primarily a set shooter and hope he somehow is left wide open or do you go with a designed play you’ve practiced many times to get your best scorer a clean look? JJ made the right call, just the shot didn’t go in.

It’s hard to say. Those warriors teams were so good, but this Thunder team is a buzz saw. Their 2nd best player is injured and it doesn’t even matter. They force turnovers and get paint touches. If all else fails they have a guy that can beat anyone straight up. It’s impressive.
