Donovan Mitchell in the win: 43/5/2 on 13⁄26 FG
https://www.espn.com/nba/boxscore/_/gameId/401871336
43 points
5 rebounds
2 assists
13⁄26 FG, 4⁄12 3PT, 13⁄15 FT
New post because he decided to check back in and go from 42 to 43 lol
Insane after his awful first half.
Started 0/6
That’s kind of been the story of his playoffs so far. Super hot and cold.
Was the same in Utah too, not just game to game but he would look awful in one quarter and then looked like he would never miss a shot again in the next.
On one hand it makes the Cavs kind of scary in the playoffs because he really can just take over a game, but on the other, it’s pretty hard to build and plan around the inconsistency.
Just needs his teammates to help pick up the slack when he’s cold. That’s what Harden and co are for.
Mitchell can score on anyone.
Pairing him with Harden is brilliant. You might as well gamble all the way.
Brilliant? lol. Harden’s been garbage for 75% of this series.
But what a 25%
Donovan Mitchell scores 4 in a half and I think “oh no! “
Donovan Mitchell scores 39 in a half and I think “haha yes!”
It reminded me of Kobe’s 33 point second half against I think the Magic after he had a bad 1st
Got all the bricks out of the way.
Spider-man: Homecoming (2017)
Just like Pete making mistakes in the first half of the movie in Tony’s eyes, he proves him wrong the second half and earns his stripes
And in his next feature he gets dusted
I don’t feel so good, Mr. Stark….
Spida-man
Miles Morales
Save that for if he ever does get to play for NY
Yo I was in the game thread, some of yall owe this man an apology
Our fans can be insufferable
Cavs fans have a dislike for Mitchell bc the trade for him dismantled the beloved 2022 team that brought us out of the gutter and we underperformed last season, but man this player is a special type of scorer and if you can’t see that then you just don’t love basketball.
Any Cavs fans that dislike Mitchell are in an extreme minority.
Yeah I was going to say, I have never met a Cavs fan in real life who dislikes Mitchell. Not sure what this person is talking about.
The concern around Mitchell has always been that we traded 6 first round picks, a future all-star (Markannen) and a beloved cornerstone of the rebuild (Sexton). That’s basically the maximum package you can send in the NBA and you send it to get a top-10 player. When Mitchell seems pedestrian or gets outplayed by average joes like Caris LeVert, people get frustrated.
Spida has always hovered around that “is he really top ten?” threshold and has a reputation for fading hard in the postseason.
If anything Mitchell usually elevates in the post season, most years (this year he’s had some stinkers) he averages 30 and carries his teams
not even gonna lie I feel like the issue has been less how many 30pt games Donovan Mitchell has and more “how many shots does it take Donovan Mitchell to get 30pts”
in some of those cold games he can be an absolute volume brickfest
In a lot of those games nobody else on the team can buy a shot, the offense is either an inefficient mitchell or nothing.
Somewhat true but he also does play a lot of hero ball. Cavs fans used to pin that on Bickerstaff and his lack of an offensive scheme, but it keeps happening under Atkinson. Not saying he isn’t trying to make up for poor performances from his teammates, but he forces a lot of shots when he should be trying to get everyone involved. Then again, dude is an SG first and foremost
Yeah this postseason hasn’t been the best for Mitchell in that regard. Ig we will see how this series goes but I think the Cavs take it.
every game thread is insufferable lol. the score could be 0-0 and someone gets a layup and 10 people will say the season is over blow it up
I remember literally game 2 of the season, in the Cavs subreddit people were already saying “same shit as usual, I hate this team. Another year of mediocrity”
I wasn’t commenting but first half I was definitely pissed. I’m sorry, Don.
We sometimes focus far too much on a players shortcomings. 39 second half points is crazy, scoring at a high volume will always matter
Sometimes? This sub routinely posts lowlight, bad stat lines for star players after a loss. Usually to the tune of thousands of upvotes. It’s gotten insanely toxic here.
According to this sub every single great player is actually trash and a fraud if they have 1 bad game, or even if they have 1 good game but still lose.
Having a good game but still losing obviously mean the they were stat padding
Ya, definitely not trying to help their team comeback and win the game, def just stat padding fraudulent trash triple doubles
He was unstoppable 2nd half
Spida
It’s amazing what happens when he actually drives instead of chucking up shitty 3s
Lmao the FT due to bad bench play nuked the original post
Won’t Atkinson think of the r/nba karmaposting?
43 points is crazy
Tied Sleepy Floyd for most points in a half in playoff history: 39 points
Time for the Cavs to rip three straight off the Pistons
They pretty much have to if they want to move on. I think the winner of game 5 takes the series.
Genius take.
This is definitely a series… LOL, I was ready to ship the bois out but heyyyy, we’re making ‘em work for it this series.
Series doesn’t start until a home team loses.
Guess the raptors series last round never started
You could say it was over before it started.
Dipshit doomers on the sub went nuclear on this truism, yet here we are.
I thought Assur Thompson played defense?
Why is he getting abused?
Assur
Hmm.
Ashurbanipal Thomson
the pistons have a issue bc they need scoring but duncan and jenkins and harris are food
39 points in a half is ridiculous. It was like watching a highlight reel in real time.
I’m probably the only Laker fan who wants LeBron to go back to Cleveland and LeBron my goat and it’s because he would just be so lit with Harden and Mitchell
u the goat for saying ts
No doubt him with this current Cavs roster is guaranteed to win the east
There is a LeBron shaped hole in the SF spot. We’ve been swapping players in the starting lineup through the reg season and playoffs with the core four being the permanent mainstays when they’re available.
[removed]
Inject that shit into my veins.
‘my goat’ needs to have a footnote nowadays to explain that it simply means ‘my favourite player’ because MJ is clearly still the greatest NBA player ever
No. When I say LeBron is the GOAT, I mean he’s the greatest of all time, as in greater than Michael Jordan. If I meant that he’s my favorite player, then I’d just say that.
😂😂😂😂 not to me he’s not maybe to you he is to me he’s not
sometimes maybe good sometimes maybe shit
Streets are saying coco arrived during the secold half
40 second half points damnn
Such a fun player.
Lowkey when they were going on that crazy run and he miss a step back 3, I thought that was when he was going to cool down but I’m glad he proved me wrong
Dude was throwing stones into an ocean tonight in the 2nd half. If he had half decent first half he could’ve legit had 60.
actually insane, him and mobley carried us
And the refs lol
And yet, not one challenge was called by JB. Hmm.
Tch.
So much ice in his veins it might as well be winter in Cleveland again
WE ARE SOOOOOO BACK (let me have this damn it)
Pistons fans told me Ausar is a better defender than Scottie but I did not see that watching this game lol
Scottie strikes fear into the hearts of every single Cavs fan, that man is a true 2-way future superstar.
Scottie is a fucking monster. I always knew he was a good player, but last series he was incredible. The mid range, the passing.. damn. Dude was carrying that team and almost beat us by himself.
He looks better than Cade.
i didnt realize how good scottie was til last series
[deleted]
Let’s save this energy for if & when we take one in Detroit, lol
Cade has been better, one good game doesn’t make Mitchell better lol. Mitchell has been way to inconsistent as a scorer to match up with everything Cade does because Cade is literally better at every other aspect of the game.
Cade hasn’t been better this series. And if Donovan Mitchell is an inconsistent scorer, what does that make Cade?
A better playmaker, defender and generally every other part of the game
Hard to flaunt the better play maker when he’s leading the playoffs in turnovers as well
Is there any other playoff team with a star player who has as much responsibility as Cade?
Donovan Mitchell literally hard James Harden by his side, and 2 really solid bigs in Allen and Mobley, and a bunch of shooters and a few 3 and D guys.
Cade has Tobias Harris, and that’s about it.
Compare to the Knicks with Brunson and KAT and OG and Bridges and Alvarado Compare to OKC with Shai and Chet and literally their entire team top to bottom Compare to Wolves with Antman and Randle and Rudy and Mcdaniels and Naz Reid
No wonder Cade has so many turnovers, there is literally no one on his team that any other defense has to worry about at all.
Scoring is the most important skill in basketball and he’s been very meh at it.
If you swapped Mitchell to the Pistons, and put Cade on the Cavaliers, who do you think is favored then?
I think it’s not even close that Cade does a lot more than Donovan Mitchell, but the Cavs team has more skilled players top to bottom.
let’s relax a bit and win the series first
Cade has been actual ass the past two games
Cade is way better though lol.
Huh? Because he is lol. I don’t think it’s a discussion. Harden has been better than Mitchell in the playoffs so far.
Cade leads the Playoffs in turnovers, and he has 58 to Mitch’s 27. Even if we just lock it to this series, Cade still has more than twice the turnovers as Mitch, and shoots at 40% compared to Mitch shooting at 50%. These aren’t even all normal turnovers either; you gotta watch this series to see the bone-headed mistakes Cade is making out here.
Next you’re gonna tell us that Duren is better than Allen.
If you put Cade on the Cavs and Mitchell on the Pistons, who do you think is favored then?
I think Mitchell gets absolutely smothered and struggles, meanwhile Cade gets a breath of fresh air of a bonafide #2, floor spacing, and some real hard nosed bigs.
I think it’s no question Cade is better than Mitchell mostly due to the physical tools and similar skill levels.
Amazing performance. Donovan and harden both need to bring it in Detroit as they did at home . I don’t see them taking the 7th if it gets there
Dude always bullshits in the 1st half just to come back and cross everyone up the 2nd Half. Same thing happened when he scored 71 vs the Bulls a few years back, but he had 8 points in the half instead of 4.
Collin Sexton would have gotten the 44 points /s
I said Mitchell went nuclear last game. If that’s nuclear, then what the fuck was this?
My guy went to the nuclear option in the second half, NO MORE TALKS
Detroit doesn’t look very scary
Most Underrated Player in these playoffs stg
It was a tale of two halves.
He suddenly realized Scottie is in Cancun.
Kenny learned that Duncan and Tobias can’t guard Donny 1v1. Incredible!
Me during half time: Mitchell won’t stay cold forever. If he heats up in the 2nd half we just gotta keep pace.
Me 5 minutes into 3rd quarter: Okay then.
He is dropping 19 on 6-20 shooting next game.
15 FT. Where’s the r/nba outrage? Or is that reserved for a couple of players only?
Sad that it needs an asterisk because some of these FTs were pure nonsense.
Yup. Ever since he whined about the refs after Game 2 and said he was gonna start flopping, the Cavs have gotten 62 FTA vs. 24 for the Pistons, despite way more of Cleveland’s shots coming from outside. Mitchell got more FTA than Detroit in Game 4, even though the Pistons live in the paint.
Helps that whenever he missed a shot the refs would gift him extra chances at the line
bc pistons couldn’t stop hacking lmao
pretty sane reply. stay mad redditor
Everyone knows that the pistons (the thunder and rockets do this too) foul basically every defensive possession lmfao
yep
