His head never looks in the game. Commits easily avoidable fouls, will space out and miss rebounds, and he’ll randomly become Mr Butterfingers with the ball. Such a weird player.

Knicks better negotiate to try and keep him. Even though it’s hard because Mikal’s extension kicks in next year. He’s an excellent part of the defense, and elite rim protectors are worth their weight in gold in the league.

I know people say the Knicks window is closing fast but realistically speaking it’s this year alone if Mitch leaves. Without him, a good anchor of our defense is gone and OG, KAT and Mikal arent enough to fill it or be specialized rim protectors.

Those first few weeks at the beginning of the season where he was playing well and there was a lot of chatter about him turning a corner.  Hilarious in retrospect, but it was so obvious at the time that games like tonight were inevitable

I don’t think the Lakers are that upset. This was a gap year. They tried an emergency fix last season with the Mark Williams trade and he failed his physical.

Ayton was meant to be serviceable until they could really compete.

Not long after this, I forget the play but he looked like he was saying “fucking hell” and right as the camera panned to him and he started talking he covered his mouth lol

Even on this play Reaves was worse. It was his guy who got the rebound then cooked the team again.

I been saying this but my friends don’t wanna admit it. He’s a flat track bully that physically can’t hang against quality playoff teams.

And for some reason, he seems to mostly box out with his hands, no positioning or shoulder or back, just tries to push guys one way or another with his hands, which is partly why he’s not ready to grab the rebounds.

He was fine against the Rockets but there were so many turnovers/missed opportunities that series that were designed passes to him.

Man would roll to rim but would fumble the pass.

Reaves is INCREDIBLY overrated, he’s talented offensively in that he can play make and shoot…

BUT he’s not very athletic, an awful defender, and gets the benefit of a weirdly friendly (prob LA) whistle and often gives “a newborn calf trying to run for the first time” type athleticism

MAX player he is not… he’s gonna get way more than Brunson’s team friendly contract which is wild

Reaves isn’t a bad player, he IS good don’t mistake me… but he’s not 1/1A good and even as a sidekick, has a heck of a lot of flaws.

They both played like shit, Ayton shouldn’t be the starting C next season, Reaves also isn’t worth the max but he will probably get it anyway, they probably see what the team looks like next season then maybe trade him at the deadline idk

just let Reaves enjoy it while he can once he gets the contract he’s gonna be receiving death threats

Small hands or just bad hands?

His hands arent responsible for him having his back to the rim when shots are bouncing off, cant rebound if you arent even looking at the ball…

Looked to me like there was another laker on both those rebounds who had at least as good chance as ayton and let thier man run right around them. Weird to me to single out ayton here just seems like a player people love to hate.

Im pretty sure a traffic cone would have played better defense than Reaves tonight.

With his shot not falling, hes was detrimental to the team out there.

Reaves has always been a ball watcher that gives up offensive rebounds and backdoor layups but Laker bigs always get blamed for not rebounding or defending his horrible defensive mistakes. Hard to believe his fans think he’s worth a max contract.

People were scapegoating AD on this team for the same reasons. 4 guys watch the ball and expect the center to defend his man, help at the rim, and box out everyone and grab the rebound. The moment the other team has a hustle guy, it becomes too much for one guy to handle, but people just go “Center not rebound. Opponent score at rim. Center fault.”

center position’s just a feast or famine position. only a small number of teams have high quality centers who play consistently, the rest get gapped hard

Hey now Cam Johnson was probably the Nuggets’s second best player in the Wolves series. I’d argue he’s still a better piece than MPJ for most playoff teams just by way of being a more versatile defender, better ball handler, and better playmaker. Neither of them is going to be the first or second option on a playoff team so you aren’t looking for them to take 20 shots a game.

What the fuck is this comment? Ayton was bad tonight, bad most of the year, and bad much of the last 4 years. A clip showing that isn’t cherry picking shit, and Reaves also struggling doesn’t somehow make that less true.

Except reaves is known as a bad defender and usually his offense can compensate (obviously not against OKC)… there’s no expectation for ARs defense.

Ayton is the Mr. Self-proclaimed “i can guard 1-5” and supposed to be both a defensive anchor/support but at the very least his job IS TO REBOUND THE F’N ball
