To drop below 40% on playoff 3s, Rui Hachimura would have to miss 46 straight 3s
After his 4⁄4 start to this game, Rui is 76⁄145 in the playoffs for his career on 3 pointers. 76⁄190 is exactly 40%.
So what you’re saying is Lakers will lose him in free agency
we have Aspiration money now. apparently there is no consequence for using that.
Rui, Smart and Austin will be planting a lot of trees.
Some would be doing waste management, clam harvesting or solar roofing
Gotta not look too suspicious
All of those activities likely go against their beliefs so they actually won’t be doing any of that thank you very much
Understood, here is your money.
All very legal and very cool
Wouldn’t work in this case, Aspiration needs a player that already makes max.
Say you’re Reaves, Lakers offers you a 45m/3y contract with another 45m in crypto under the table for a total of 90m (or 30 a year). Nets offers you 80m/3. Your agent will tell you to sign with the Nets.
If you sign with Lakers, you make 10m more, but league perception is that you’re a 15m guy. If you sign with the Nets, you lose 10m on current contract but 3 years from now the League recognizes you as worth double what you’d be on the Lakers. Take the Lakers offer and instead of looking at another 80m/3 you’re now only getting 45⁄3 offers with nothing extra on the side unless you do a breakout year and significantly raise your stats by the end of the contract.
A Max player already has his valuation at max. His next contract isn’t in jeopardy by chosing another team with the better under the table terms.
Lmao what? Most NBA players get one big contract their entire careers. Do you think Austin is a future all star / all-nba player or something?
If so, the Lakers should definitely resign him so we can trade his ass immediately lol
We can have him sign a 20m endorsement for a company with Ohtani
next season if we go to japan, you see Ohtani and Rui’s faces everywhere. lmao
Rui will take a team friendly deal and stay with us.
Coincidentally, he’ll also participate in more eco-friendly events to celebrate.
Rui will receive the most expensive Bonsai tree in the world as a small gift for a private jersey signing event 20 times a year.
Please don’t say that lol
LA could use more treees!
has to be a contender. He isnt the type of player bad teams go after tbh.
Blazers are not a contender and he would be a great get for them.
Or he will stay with the Lakers on a fat salary and miss his next 46 3s on a new deal.
You know if that happens in the regular season I’m cool with it. A 3 in the playoffs is worth like 3 in the regular season, everyone knows.
Nah, I think he wants to be here.
He’s japanese and gets to play with Luka, no reason to leave Los Angeles
What does the japanese have to do with it? Not aware so I’m genuinely curious
Large Japanese community in socal, great food, as close as you can be to Hawaii/Japan from the states
I completely forgot that japan was close to us in the other direction. I’m stupid
Smartest Lakers fan
Dodgers, LA and Lakers more well known globally so more marketing/PR power in Japan.
He gets to bask in the glow of Shohei Ohtani and Yoshi Yamamoto obvs.
But seriously he gets way more attention in Japanese media because he’s on the Lakers. Yuki Kawamura gets like a 10 second mention on the sports roundup shows even when he does get minutes for the Bulls, but Rui usually gets a whole interview segment.
And that’s with Rui being a halfie vs Yuki, which as much as I would like it not to be the case, definitely still matters in Japanese society.
Japan and Slovenia share a sacred kinship hidden away from the rest of the world
If the Lakers sub had a choice he would’ve been traded years ago
Dude if r/lakers had their way we’d be on our 4th roster with no returning players at all except maybe Luka. But I think i heard some people talking about trading him when he got hurt so even then.
Hey now. Real fans know his value.
I’m hoping he really wants to move to Detroit. It could happen, right?
Nah, you’re going to see a lot of endorsements on the horizon for the few decent laker players.
No, don’t
Nah
We need a big wing that can shoot 3s
Detroit gonna offer him 20M+ in FA 💔
Isn’t he on about 18m now? 20 wouldn’t lure him away
A starting role absolutely would, but that would be a terrible offer that the Pistons wouldn’t make anyway
I genuinely don’t think so. As long as we come in with something reasonable / not disrespectful I think he stays
Oh course every fanbase would like to believe that
Idk he does really like LA from all reports out there
He’s going to get a 4 / \(80m or 5 / \)100m (player option in the 5th) from L.A.
He can have a starter’s role if we’re smart about who we take in free agency. There arent a lot of other guys on the team that can compete for his spot.
“It’s your starters role if we don’t find anyone better”
Yeah I’m sure that’s a great pitch he would appreciate
No you misunderstand, I dont think we should go after anyone that could take his spot. I want to shore up our bench and maybe take some role players we can use for defensive match ups.
Aren’t Lakers going to try to pry away Payton Watson who is basically a more defensive minded similar build player?
I dont know what they are gonna do. I guess we’ll see in the off season.
20M for him is a bit of an overpay, I’d say 18M is one too, he’s perfect in the 15-17M range
His shooting numbers and offensive output are great but aside from that he brings nothing you’d want a “Power Forward” to bring, he’s slow defensively, is a poor finisher at the rim, bad rebounder, not physical, and pretty bad playmaking
Are we watching the same playoffs? 18m feels super justified.
Well yeah it feels justified when he’s shooting like 52% from 3 but he isn’t always doing that, and when he’s not his contract looks like an overpay because of all of his other weaknesses
It’s widely agreed that a player like payton watson could command a 24+ mil AAV, I’ve seen people say 28. How is he worth up to 10mil more than Rui when Rui is playing like this?
Watson is a defense first demon who happened to develop a nasty offensive game.
2-way player, Watson is a defensive stud who can now hit 3s at a 40% clip. Those players get paid.
Hachimura might be better offensively but the gap isn’t big enough to justify his bad rebounding and defense.
based on this year’s play, peyton watson’s definitely getting 25m+. two way players who can create, shoot, defend at the point of attack, play backside, and are young are incredibly hard to find. honestly wouldn’t be surprised at 28m, and the only reason its not higher is cause of sample size
18M for a guy who can only shoot wide open threes is an overpay. I’ve watched Rui for 4 years now to know this is who he is
He’ll have multiple plays where you question his intelligence, he’s 6’8 240 and only averages 3 rebounds, and doesn’t generate stocks
For a team like Detroit that needs shooting they’ll gladly overpay Rui, but aside from insane shooting numbers he really doesn’t offer a lot on either end
Can I ask who you think you’d replace him with for 18m that is not only available but actually better? This will be an extremely short list I’m sure.
Isn’t Ayo available? Love Rui but feel like Ayo would be much better fit coz he actually plays d
So he’ll be like Malik Beasley?
Rui isn’t even top 5 worse defenders in the Lakers rotation. Lakers start 3 players worse than him on that end. A bulk of Rui’s defensive “struggles” could be credited to the players around him and he would undoubtedly fit better on a team like the Pistons where his defensive role isn’t highlighted
He’d fit better with the Pistons maybe but he is absolutely top 5 worse defenders. He’s worse than Luka when you consider you can’t put him anywhere. Your 3 point shooting big bodied wing can’t simultaneously be bad on the perimeter and too small inside.
Dude Luka and Reaves can’t stay in front of anyone. The late game strategy for every team is to attack those two repeatedly. LeBron is a lazy defender atp in his career. When I say Rui defensive role is highlighted, I mean he’s literally covering for multiple poor defenders who can’t hold their own in any context. Rui can at least hold his own and that fits better with a team like the Pistons where everyone can defend
Rui cannot hold his own lol because what exactly do you think he does well? He’s just as bad as everyone you mentioned. He cannot stay in front of anyone, he is bad in help, he gets lost, bad at rebounding, bad at passing lanes. By those measured Lebron is better at 41 and I agree he’s not great now. You can put him in Detroit and you can hide him and limit the damage so he’s a better fit, but is Rui a positive?
Nah man. He really isn’t. You rarely ever see opposing teams go after Rui again and again the way they do with Kennard, AR, and Luka. Rui’s just ok.
You smoking Crack if u think Rui is worse than Luka and Reaves at defense wtf.
what? i agree he is bad playermaker and pretty slow defensively, but he’s still valuable big wing. he’s big and strong enough to be thrown in defensive scheme of temporarily covering bigs (he was the key to how lakers pulled out a surprise win against nuggets in their last matchup in 24-25 season), he can punish mismatch with small guards through midrange, and he can attack closeout.
he’s definitely worth 20M, given the inflation of players’ salaries in recent times. he could even make 22M+, because there’s definitely demand for him
That’s so much money but he would be an excellent piece here
Locking down Rui would be a little like locking down current Tobias Harris for next 3-4 years. 20-25m a year seems somewhat reasonable as a direct replacement for the 26m Harris is getting. The archetype of a spacing big wing/PF next to Cade seems to be a winning combo and Rui is an even better shooter than Harris at the cost of rebounding.
He wants to stay in LA I doubt he leaves unless we disrespect him
New and significantly wealthier leadership. Hopefully the budget is a bit more flexible.
hell nah we ain’t lol
That’s low volume tho. Any Celtic will chuck up 145 3pt shots in a single 7 game series.
Dude broke the Lakers curse haha
Well not really because he wasn’t a good shooter before. The lakers curse is moreso for good shooters who forget how to shoot
Apparently we should look for inconsistent non shooters instead. Fuck Rob was on to something before.
Kennard?
Quick, get all the 7 footers in the league who aren’t good shooters.
Phil Handy will change them.
he was a good shooter on the wizards lol, especially his last two years here
above 52% is crazy work
King. I knew he would be this good when he was in Washington.
Still have my Rui cherry blossom jersey. I wanted us to keep him hit but we need him to be to start the rebuild. Wish we got more than the corpse of Kendrick Nunn and a second for him.
Playoff riser Rui
that’s actually insane lmao wtf???
He is usually really good or really bad for the Lakers and no in between
He’s the second coming of IcyHot. He’ll go 8⁄9 from 3 one game and then 1⁄5 another. He is a lot more consistent in the playoffs thankfully.
Yeah for the last 13 games he’s shot over 50% in each game (according to Doris on the broadcast).
Nah, he’s rarely been really bad. There’s very little truth to that.
Insane lol
Why doesn’t he just shoot a 3 every possession? Lakers woulda won
And rob still won’t get his flowers
This exact thread has definitely happened before
why doesn’t he shoot more?
He tends to get iced out, especially in the regular season
He can only really shoot catch and shoot 3s and his shooting motion is slow so he won’t shoot when he gets a hard close out
Currently arguing with my friend group about his status as an elite shooter.
He’s genuinely really good. Will be interested to see what he gets in free agency
40% is considered to be a great 3-point shooter in the regular season… playoff is like 15% of the space you got in the regular season. So if he can miss 46 straight and still be at 40%, this is an amazing stat.
Get this man some help
That’s almost two Rocket’s game 7’s worth of missed threes!
He’s safe this off season.
Reaves is definitely gone.
Wow that’s amazing
Come back home king
Imagine him on the Nuggs
It’s happening …
i could miss way more than that
When he sets his feet with that little jump you know it’s going in
there ain’t enough games for him to miss 46 cuz they’re gonna be swept.
Now would be a great time to start
And to drop below 0% win percentage in this series, the Lakers would have to lose again twice on Monday and probably will.
HOW BOUT THEM FTs?
A role player (or players) has to light us up from 3 every series. It’s Thunder law.
Not to take away anything from Rui. Dude has been automatic behind the three point line.
He did the same thing against the rockets.
