I could see the Sixers transitioning to a state where he is more of a role player/elder statesman (like Ewing on the 99 Knicks) and it fully becomes Maxey/VJ’s team.

Embiid has only played every game in the playoffs twice, and both times his team went out in the first round. At this point we can safely assume that his body won’t/can’t hold up to the more condensed schedule of the playoffs. Therefore a team must be able to win without Embiid for us to bet on them to make the conference finals. Given his contract it is almost impossible to construct a team with him on it that can win multiple playoff series.

I think they have as much of a chance next year as they did this year. I’m pretty sure if they win literally one more game in the regular season they play the Cavs instead which I think they could have won in 6 not 7. Then it’s Pistons instead of Knicks which is a better matchup for them as well. Team is basically going to be the same and it’s not like he gets appendicitis again. Biggest factors for me are going to be year 2 VJ, do we duck the tax, do either of Giannis or Brown get traded, can the Knicks afford to resign Mitch, and how the Pacers comeback tour looks

It’s not his big contract stopping them. It’s the cheap owners who traded away McCain who was on a cheap rookie deal.

Embiid is cooked. He moves like an old man. His game is so reliant on him getting to the line. If you can refrain from fouling him when he does his jabs and fakes, he’s not going to be able to blow by any defender, so he’s forced to take his fadeaway. His fadeaway is a good shot for him, but he’s otherwise incredibly limited.

As of now, yes. As great as Embiid is, he is too injury prone to be the top paid guy.

He needs to take a big pay cut and accept a more limited role if he wants to be on a title contender, because other players have to carry him to the postseason. The same can be said for Kawhi too.

Depending on how much longer he plays probably. He’ll always have a better chance than some teams purely because he plays in the East but the conference was more wide open this year than others and it appears the Sixers will once again miss. Their best chance was that Jimmy Butler team. I don’t see them having that deep and talented of a roster again unless V.J. or Maxey continue to improve, which isn’t that crazy of an idea, but you have to factor the likelihood of Embiid being healthy in the future which looks pretty unlikely.

Embiid is so inconsistent on how he approaches the game as it comes to him. He should be playing inside out, but he randomly defaults to the middy to outside. When he starts chucking 3’s when he hasn’t developed any rhythm inside, you already know the game is lost at that point.

He will. Embiid is too injury prone and is only getting worse. Their 3rd option is paul george who is in a similar boat. This means that they will always be too injured to get the 1st or 2nd seed at minimum and will probably forever be banished to the 5-8th seed meaning they have to play 3 really good teams to make the finals while hoping no one gets injured. They’re all decently healthy right now and just got 3-0’d by the Knicks for example. They could get the 8th seed next year, beat the pistons/Knicks 4-0, but Embiid gets injured and they lose to the cavs or pacers next.

The only real chance Embiid has is signing the min on the thunder and making the WCF very easily lol.

People are being too negative. Philly had a good year. They knocked out a very good Celtics team in the first round despite being heavy underdogs. Maxey took another huge step up. VJ is fantastic and will continue to get better. PG showed up when it mattered most. The team just ran into the Knicks in the middle of a ungodly hot streak. They will make noise in the playoffs for the next couple of years even if Embiid isn’t at 100%.
