Wemby just put up one of the most unique playoff lines ever & his stat line isn’t even the most interesting part
39/15/5 blocks on 72% shooting. 4th player in NBA history with 35/15/5 blocks in a playoff game. Kareem, Hakeem, Shaq, Wemby. Only one on that list who did it shooting 70%+ from the floor.
But McDaniels and Randle went 8 for 34 combined and that’s the real story. They were taking worse shots from worse spots because of where Wemby was standing before the ball got there. That spatial deterrence doesn’t show up in any box score and it’s half of what makes him different from every other rim protector alive. Gobert changes shots at the rim. Wemby changes shots from the perimeter.
The moment I keep coming back to: Wolves cut it to one in the 4th. Wemby on his 5th foul with 6 minutes left. Next possession he catches at the top and buries a three without blinking đđđ
Real question: we keep reaching for comparisons and none of them fit cleanly. Is that because we’re watching something genuinely new? We canât give him GOAT title at all yet, not even close..heâs won nothing..but canât you see him in that convo one day?
