I still struggle to understand why Thibs didn’t fall in love with this guy last year. Always hustling, plays tough defense, has a lot of confidence in himself, literally the ideal Thibs player.
Trust. Thibs didn’t trust any player off the bench last year not named Mitch or Deuce.
I’ll always love what Thibs did to help this franchise get out of the gutter it was in for so long but he had so many deficiencies as a coach and this was one of his biggest. The bench didn’t develop at all under him because they never got this many opportunities.
And honestly, the flaw as a coach isn’t that he wants to ride his starters when the pressure is on, it’s that he was unable to look at that as an unsustainable practice and to hand over control of the rotations to a trusted assistant.
It’s okay to have weaknesses, but it’s not okay to do absolutely nothing to bolster those areas, and to insist that your way is the only way.
When you’re a zero time championship coach, you need to have a more humble approach to continued growth and change. You can’t just keep doing the same thing that’s been proven not to work.
He didn’t trust deuce either come play offs.
Im reminded of Kenny Smith saying “Thibs wouldn’t play 9 guys in a baseball game” everytime Shamet plays well and it cracks me up
Thibs could not gameplan offense for a bench. Or manage rotations beyond absolute basics of sitting a couple guys.
I forget but Shamet got hurt for most of the season didn’t he? Maybe he just never had a chance to get into a good rhythm and show his stuff in practice to gain Thibs trust
He returned from his injury in like December if I remember. That’s almost 4 months to implement him into the lineup.
He played 50 games after he got back from injury. Literally just 1 less game than this year. He was fire in March and April.
Thibs did like him, he was getting good burn and playing well until he dislocated his shoulder and missed most of the season and came back very late and wasn’t the same.
Thibs is/was senile
Another guy we drafted and traded btw
Enjoy Grimes
First ever point guard that can’t dribble
He’s not a point guard. He’s a 6’5” shooting guard.
He’s not a 6’5” shooting guard, he’s Luigi’s evil twin
Or shoot off the dribble. He’s basically a trebuchet.
I don’t know what he was working on in Houston
Along with the pick that became Sadiq Bey to bring in Tobias Harris
Been a critical role player for us this year. Glad he was able to knock the rust off and play with confidence.
Damn good efficiency too
His defense is so underrated too.
Dude was on a mission.
Had me thinking he waited 7 years for the revenge game for trading him
He balled out
Big for the Knicks. He struggled early in the playoffs and fell out of regular rotation. With the blow out wins he was still getting his regular minutes though. He was playing really good this year before the injuries. He was probably still recovering from the shoulder injury at the beginning of the playoffs.
ShamWow wipes it up again!
Dude was a complete beast tonight. ShamWow all night
