[Highlight] Austin Reaves kicks Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the family jewels area in mid-air and scores the And-1 (with a replay)
If SGA did this it would get 15k upvotes talking about how hes the spawn of Satan
The comment thread on the “Thunder laughing” post on here is genuinely concerning man. People in here have lost their fucking minds about OKC.
People were like writing fan fiction about why they were smiling, people saying they want to knockout Dort. It’s so unhinged
guys…it’s because they’re 13 years old. sure there are some idiots who are adults who are still like this but those embarrassing comments are mostly coming from 13 year olds.
Nah definitely grown ass men doing it, go on IG and all the comments hating on Shai are midde aged white guys with beards and crosses in their bio’s lmao
To be fair, middle aged men with beards and crosses in their bios are often mentally 13 years old.
And it’s further proof these people don’t hoop.
Never see those guys at the Y or a Lifetime. lmao
They don’t watch basketball until they see a white guy playing good, then all of a sudden their experts on the sport lmao
Bro it didn’t even show them looking at Reaves, they were all just laughing. Could’ve been at Reaves, could’ve been at anything but the narrative was set and rabid fans ran with it. It’s fucking tiresome and getting downvoted to hell just because I have a Thunder flair is getting old. And then the response is called being whiney, I’ve never seen gaslighting to this degree lmao
Honestly it looked like Lu was laughing at something JMac said and a couple seconds later was when they noticed the ref huddle.
They were literally just laughing lmao
And tbf it is hilarious. I mean how embarrassing for the Lakers to be in a group huddle in the middle of the court after a game that they lost by 20
They had the most natural reaction anyone would have and the top comment of that post was “this team is so unlikable man”
Like what???
OKC discourse has turned this place into r/thedonald
It really has lol. Except the subject of that sub is going to be responsible for making the lives of millions objectively worse and possibly destroying democracy in the US,….. and the other foulbaits.
I come here to shitpost in game threads because sports are the one place I don’t have to be objective. Its a nice escape to the government hostility outside. I wonder if that shit is having an effect on how unhinged things have gotten about ref calls. Or if it’s more due to unregulated social media.
I for real have never been closer to believing trump derangement syndrome is a real thing due to this sub.
its kinda like the baseball subreddit after game 7 of the world series, which was one of the most entertaining baseball games ever. the top comment in the postgame thread was just “i fucking hate the dodgers”
so focused on being angry at a successful team that they couldn’t even enjoy baseball at its best
This is actually a deeper comment than you probably intended, but it’s 100% true.
Today’s media is alllll about getting us so distracted with outrage and vitriol that we as a society have become unable to just… enjoy things. If you showed somebody from 40 years ago the state of sports discourse today they would probably die of shock.
And this doesn’t just apply to sports media, it’s ALL media. “They” want us focused on ragebait and fighting amongst ourselves that we are unable to just be happy and/or focus on what really matters in life.
People really acting they wouldnt laugh if a team did a group huddle after getting cooked in the second half
Yea dude, I felt the same way. People were attacking the thunder fans cause Oklahoma is red as fuck. Not to mention that most thunder fans are normal people from the city. The pie chart of thunder fans is not nearly the same as Oklahoma voting…
Heck, a pretty sizable portion of the fanbase isn’t even from Oklahoma.
Are fans of other sports this geographically obsessed? I guess the league has done this to itself but I don’t hear any of this about the NFL, MLB, or college football. Granted, those are the only other US sports I pay any attention to.
Yup! There’s heaps of us
People have to cope and feel superior somehow. It’s honestly hilarious the lengths people go to in order to feel superior because their team isn’t as good.
Yeah when I saw them attacking OKC fans as low IQ and Trump voters I knew this entire sub had lost the plot
When people start throwing out personal unrelated insults it’s because they have nothing of value to add to the conversation and can’t intelligently elaborate on any point they were trying to make. Just immature and childish.
Dude I felt insane opening that post.
Like, weren’t we all JUST laughing at Jaylen Brown for imo an even lesser version of that? And our guys didn’t even do anything, they were just recorded mildly laughing for like 2 seconds, but you would think they got involved or something. Discourse is so cooked right now man
Like Reaves got in a huddle about refs like he doesn’t also flop and didn’t kick SGA earlier. While also doing tactics to get more fouls.
Edit: Reaves wasnt talking about Calls, but regardless he did a few dirty plays on SGA but wants to talk about respect…
He wasn’t even complaining about calls. He was talking to the ref about bring disrespectful.
After calling the ref a pussy
This is my safe space to vent lmfao. Most of the other posts are insane.
As an OKC resident, I would like to think most of us would agree with some of the issues (Dort, inconsistent calls, etc.) but to state the Thunder are only good because FTs and it’s some NBA conspiracy to get a small market team into the finals is bonkers.
I do think there are a lot of tourist OKC fans who are just in it for the game to rage bait who will move on to other teams on the future that are causing issues online. I know there is a lot of jest about this godforsaken state being the last ranked state in education and having nothing better to do, and all the typical stereotypes… but ultimately all we want is to enjoy a championship team and for people outside of Oklahoma to like us lol… and we’re new to the hateful discourse so a lot of us don’t take it well. It wasn’t this bad when Russ and KD were here, as far as I can recall.
Only time I remember it being this bad for OKC fans debatewise was the Russel Westbrook vs James Harden MVP thing. It got quite toxic back then. But now it feels like every negative part of this OKC team is magnified 50x. Obviously we’re the best team in the league so we’re gonna have more eyes but the discourse gets stale ngl
It’s the cringiest shit I’ve ever seen in a sports sub.
It’s a fucking struggle session. Beyond pathetic.
My wife once asked me a while ago what gets the most popularity on social media when it comes to NBA clips. I told her it goes something along these lines (in this order).
And the more clickbait, the better (in terms of engagement).
As for Number 2, when does Shai actually complain about not getting a call? Sometimes he’s clearly looking to draw a foul but he rarely complains to the refs, just keeps going about his business
He holds his arms up when he thinks they missed a call and he will talk to them, but that’s about it.
meanwhile Luka takes 2 whole possessions off sometimes even scoring a bucket in the middle of it😭 and i love Luka
LeBron complained about a no-call in the… first quarter last night. He was complaining so long the Lakers had ran it down the court, took a shot, OKC rebounded and ran it back.
Fr man, Luka is like my second favorite player and it pains me when he overly complains to a ref to the detriment of his team. If he put all that complaining energy into defense it’d be over lol
Yea, people that take the “he doesn’t complain to refs” as an absolute instead of the more obvious “he doesn’t complain to refs as much or as bad as most players” just boggles my mind. It’s like everybody here takes everything super literally and can’t think for themselves
I was wondering why she started posting Shai flops out of nowhere last week
This is easily way worse than anything else that happened in that game.
There’s actually no explanation for Reaves leg moving like that. It actually looks like he did it on purpose.
The post of SGA doing that rip through on Reaves too. Like Reaves had a few questionable plays on SGA. He also got LeBron hurt with one of his fouls on SGA.
Shai shouldn’t of locked his arm the way he did, it was pretty reckless.
But legit 2 seconds earlier Reaves has him in a bear hug and there’s no foul lmao.
Yeah SGA shouldn’t have done that for sure but yeah idk how Reaves got away with a bare hug.
nobody wants to hear it or listening but they’ve been fouling Shai off ball basically every possession this series
honestly the NBA refs are giving the people more of what they wanted. People wanted defensive intensity and now in today’s playoffs you are allowed to hug and handcheck. they still call some ticky-tack fouls on shots but it’s a bloodbath even trying to get anything going.
People are just mad that OKC has better defenders who can guard more physically. When your team can’t compete with the same level of physicality, people start wanting less physicality because that benefits their defenders more.
Everyone in that thread was so confident that Shai did it on purpose. Shai is not a dirty player and he owns up to his flops and smiles when he gets away with some calls.
In the clip, you have to slow it down frame by frame to see Reaves stick his arm against Shai’s body. Shai is unaware the arms were in that position and shake Reaves off. He was genuinely angry and surprised after the whistle because he had no intention of hurting Reaves and thought Reaves should have been called for the foul.
Could you imagine this was Dort on Lebron. I actually think Dort would not be alive right now
Meanwhile this has barely 100 upvotes. This sub is a joke.
He literally did this to Andrew Wiggins 2 years ago and the comments were “you employ Draymond Green”. The hate is only happening now because they’re winning
I personally upvote anyone in this series being kicked in the balls, besides Marcus Smart & iHart.
I will protect Jared McCain with my life. You get between me, my Jared, and his balls, and im afraid this just isnt gonna end well for you buddy.
Only pacers fans get it bc we went to war
Unfinished business we play again next year when you add Dybansta
The Pacers fans on reddit have made them my #2 team.
Is it just confirmation bias? Is that the right term or is there a more precise term? When you watch a game and ignore all the favorable calls for your team but every time they get an unfavorable whistle its a conspiracy?
Embiid or SGA drawing a legit foul will be front page news on this sub, but something like this will be ignored. Always a conspiracy
Yea I don’t remember the clip of LeBron getting a no call after he elbowed AC directly in the nose getting any kind of post
Yup, I’ve seen it so many times, especially during high stake games.
if Reaves somehow signed with OKC next season, maybe he becomes public enemy #1b next to Shai
If Reaves joined OKC he wouldn’t get anywhere close to the whistle he gets with LA. Look at the rest of the Thunder team aside from SGA, they don’t really get shit for calls. Despite SGA being 3rd in the league in FTA per game this year, the Thunder as a team ranked 17th.
And don’t get me wrong, I’m naturally a die hard OKC hater myself as a Sonics fan. I just prefer accuracy in my NBA discourse lol.
Ethical hater, I respect that
fuck ethical hoops, i respect ethical hates
Well no, all those players besides SGA are just significantly worse than AR at drawing fouls. There is definitely a methodology to what Luka, SGA, AR, Embiid, Harden etc do.
Like Chet for example, is just dogshit at selling calls but I think he gets fouled plenty.
Hey, thank you for being unbiased!
It was concerning watching Luka and Reave’s whistle evolve this season
I wish people realized that accurate hate hits SO MUCH harder than the nonsense lol
Feed me a Sonics Thunder rivalry
Yep, everyone loves to hate OKC. And so do I. But it’s pots calling kettles black. This morning (my time) it was all about how egregious all the things OKC is doing are and how they are just winning because of the whistle, flopping and what not. My dudes, have you never watched an NBA game? Every team tries all the tricks in the book to get them to win. I mean, even Reaves said so in an interview before the series started when a report asked him about SGA. And his answer was basically; yeah, the dude just wants to win, if he gets 20 FTA’s, I want to be in that same place as well.
OKC is just a fantastically built team at the moment with one of the best players in the league currently. I do not like the way the game is played right now, but it ain’t like other teams are not doing the same stuff OKC is doing.
Say it louder for all the jabronis in all the nba subs. Thanks for a completely rational take, honestly
Ethical hate I tip my hat to you sir
Yes “see what you want to see”. It is why objective discourse about sports is virtually impossible
Lakers got the best whistle in the league and are spamming r/nba because of a few bad calls
Lakers players whine about refs after the game and it’s all anyone wants to talk about
We should talk about the cavs choking and being terrible instead, everyone knew OKC was going to smash the lakers
The crazy thing is it wasn’t even about any calls they made. AR specifically said it was because one of the refs was being an asshole to him.
JJ Reddick was complaining plenty about calls
Absolutely. But the end of the game huddle session wasn’t about calls.
Lakers fans aren’t used to not getting calls
Obviously nothing is ever 0 or 100. It’s a spectrum. The game had slanted officiating, it’s just an easily observable fact.
Maybe not as bad as the diehards are acting, but anyone who now wants to act like the officiating wasn’t benefiting one side more than the other has biases of their own that they’re missing.
Biggest evidence imo is how nobody had issues with the officiating game 1, on either side, when OKC literally won by the exact same amount of points. So obviously something different happened to cause the significantly more extreme reaction lol
Hey, if people think SGA is ruining bball with his foul baiting we should be logically consistent and call out those with similar or higher free throw rates. Like Luka and Reaves
Well there is one glaring difference between SGA and those two that might prevent others from holding them just as accountable.
I can’t qwhite put my finger on what it is
Laker privilege + white privilege is an unbeatable combo
I tried to imagine what this sub would be like (or NBATalk) if Lebron was white and I can’t
LeBrian
He’s Canadian?
Well for me one doesn’t whine and argue with the refs all game.
Or doesn’t get back on defense to complain about a call..
I think youre implying race, which is a minor part of it but i think the majority is that luka and reaves are not threatening to lead a dynasty. If people were threatened by them and they were winners they would get the slander. Look at how sga was talked about when he wasnt winning
It’s a bigger part than you think. It reminds me of the discourse in Oklahoma about Magic and Bird. One was liked here a lot more than the other. So from none fans perspectives there is a significant race component. Part of that is natural because people tend to gravitate to people more like them but part is definitely societal due to race.
SGA isn’t on the Lakers
yeah Luka and AR never receive shit for this you’re right
Not thousands upon thousands of upvotes and posts. Stop pretending like it’s anywhere CLOSE to the same reaction
We do….we always have…
Thats why this post has 28 upvotes and all the top posts in the sub are thunder hate
When I woke up this morning 7 of the 8 top posts here were complaining about the Thunder’s calls. The 8th was complaining about Donovan Mitchell’s call. Not highlight dunks, not big time threes, or a bench player being the X factor in this series so far. But bitching about the refs when there was a 5 foul and 5 free throw discrepancy between teams.
Are we really doing the people don’t call out Luka and Reaves for flopping bit? Seriously? It has been talked about plenty, especially Luka.
Take a look at the front page of /r/nba. Just take a gander and see what they’re talking about.
Yeah, cause Luka isn’t playing right now
So because at this exact moment the discussion is primarily about SGA/OKC, NBA fans have never criticized Luka or Reaves for flopping?
There’s literally a post about Reaves kicking SGA in the nuts while Reaves is flopping around like a clown fishing for a foul.
That post you’re referencing currently has 300 up votes, meanwhile the top 10 posts are bitching about OKC. I’m simply remarking on the disparity of reaction. It’s patently ridiculous, all the vitriol that OKC gets meanwhile Lakers get painted as the good guys.
I didn’t say never. I just said look at what’s happening right now. People have complained about Luka and AR, rightfully so, but hate has blinded people. People are just mad that OKC keeps winning.
Well, this call has barely any visibility compared to a clip of our players laughing. Of course they get some hate, but let’s not kid ourselves. It’s not even remotely the same.
Famously, AR and Luka never get shit for their antics
Are t we on a thread talking about ar unnecessarily kicking someone in the nuts?
I can’t believe SGA would try to break AR’s foot with his giant brass balls.
Steven Adams would be proud
Lakers fans not flooding this thread for some reason.
It’s a school day and it’s not lunch time yet.
Yeah, school isn’t as important in Oklahoma.
Tough but fair
God this state needs a change because we used to be ranked in the 20-25 range for education in 2008-2012. I’m so tired of this joke. No offense to you. It’s low hanging fruit though so it’s hard not to make the joke lol.
I’m a Thunder fan in Canada, I’m just pro education all over North America
Comparing inside our countries or continent is cool, but it sucked when I got to university and realized lots of people from countries overseas told me they learned the math I was struggling with in grade school
We can all always improve
It was a dig, but at the end of the day, I want everyone to have better schools. Ohio ain’t perfect either. My home in the Mahoning Valley is particularly awful about it in the state. Disparity is horrendous here. We have both some of the best schools in the country and some of the worst. Utterly embarrassing.
We used to be top 5 in K-12 and we used to have great public universities. The state decided they’d rather strangle us out and ban discussion of “controversial” topics and require “intellectual diversity” (platform views with no basis in fact)
Lol acting like Ohio isn’t 38th in education themselves, not Oklahoma bad but thats still deplorable
I’ll be first in line to call him a foul baiter. Not gonna fight to the death defending his honor that he somehow isn’t
I mean, he didn’t actually make nut contact here, so…
I wish this happened the other way so it would have 10k upvotes smh
I mean that almost looks intentional lmao. How the fuck has his leg ended up flailing like that.
Pretty ethical stuff
His leg ended up flailing like that because the NBA has decided that’s how you get foul calls on a jump shot.
Nahhh wtf. That is horrible.
For all the SGA and Thunder hating morons this just shows you that the refs make bad calls on both sides in every game regardless of who is playing
both teams were really frustrated with the officiating yesterday and for good reason.
okc is just a much better squad than LA in this series, so it affects them less than it does the lakers
I felt like the weird jump ball standoff near the end of the game was a jumping the shark moment for the refs.
Watching that whole thing was kinda wild lol
I’ve watched basketball really seriously for about 30 years now. This game was right up there in the top 10 worst officiated games I’ve ever personally watched.
We definitely got a few bullshit calls, and our shenanigans were encouraged….and so did the Lakers. Out of like ~12ish egregiously bad calls, we probably benefited from 7 of them.
Reffing was terrible both ways in this game. You wouldn’t know it though as only the bad calls against the Lakers got upvoted, because narrative y’know
This was always my take on this. I hate how a lot of OKC fans can’t acknowledge that they do have a friendly whistle (some of them would say they’re actually getting hosed by refs), but OKC isn’t the problem. The fucking reffing being garbage and how the rules are horribly enforced is. The NBA rigging it for OKC is preposterous, the NBA implementing rules poorly sounds right up their alley
Exactly. In what world would the NBA rig the game in favor of OKC when their opponent is the biggest market in the league with the arguable GOAT? The refs just fucking suck like they always have.
We get bad calls, we get good calls.
Friendly whistle just means the benefit of the doubt leans towards your side. When AD was in LA he got a lot of fouls down low. A lot of those were unquestionable fouls, a lot were also fouls that could be no calls and would just be accepted as a subjective call. By the rule they can call a foul and they do, like with Shai. Both had friendly whistles, not necessarily cheating. Like you said more calls did fall in your favor.
The last Knicks/Sixers game was just as bad. It was painful to watch. With 25 lead changes and a close game into the 4th it should be a replay classic, but instead no one is watching that game again.
Disgusting play by sga, this thug dared to put his balls in the way of Reaves magnificent feet. I hope the wolves lose on purpose so Wemby can save basketball for the ages
(Am I doing this right?)
Bruh lmao, that’s worse than any of the OKC clips I’ve seen all playoffs. Wtf was that 🤣
If Dort did this this post would have 3,000 upvotes at least.
Also I don’t hate Reaves, and I can’t say whether this was on purpose or not. I’m just making a point.
A man of the people in r/nba for all non-OKC fanbases.
I guess all of you are hiding in this safe space
Wym, isnt kicking someone’s balls part of a natural shooting motion!?!
I’ve been assured multiple times that the foot naturally finds its way to the crotch of opposing players during shots. It’s part of balancing against the equal, but opposite, reaction of the ball pushing away from your hand.
Thousands of potential future floppers perished in this one motion. Rest in peace little Shai-bies.
Clearly part of his natural shooting motion
It was so hilarious to scroll on my feed, seeing all the posts about the Lakers surrounding the refs, crying like babies, only to find out afterwards they lost by 18 lmao. You’d think if you’re gonna complain that much, at least make it a closer game where their whistle actually mattered.
Exactly. You will not beat the Thunder with 20 turnovers, on the road, missing a key player. Won’t happen. It’s loser mentality ignore the controllables. Same thing in the Suns series. You’re -48 in 2 games and just want to talk about refs.
Even funnier was that they had SGA off the entire third quarter in foul trouble, only to just get absolutely torched by the back up guards.
I don’t think I’ve seen a series with such epic battle of flopping by both teams.
And the king of the whistle isn’t even playing
Reaves has been a tier 1 flopper and foul baiter for a while now. He is just outshined by Luka.
Reaves not on the Lakers averages 5 pts less a game because he wouldn’t get the same calls.
It’s what the people demanded
This better get thousands of upvotes if I’ve had to read all day about how mad Lakers fans are that the refs won’t make their 3pt shots fall
Lakers wasting a generational 3pt run by Rui.
I wanna see all the bitching Lakers casuals upvote this one with as much enthusiasm. Easily the worst fanbase in all of sports.
All the Lakers fans and Thunder haters are downvoting this. The internet is one skewed narrative after another.
I honestly think there’s an element of racism with the excessive criticism of SGA. He’s in the conversation for best in the world along with 2 other white guys, Jokic and Luka. And people simply don’t like that.
I’d say at this point he is probably just defacto #1
5 minutes till this post is deleted lol
This is killing me lmao, even with Reaves’ foul on his drive yesterday people were complaining that he was flopping, dudes just wanna find a reason to lash out when losing, so they latch on to something, anything to get angry
This some shit my brother would do to me on the nerf hoop 😂
Reeves then had the balls to complain to the refs as well lol
He didn’t complain about the whistle tho. The ref got in his face for no reason and Reaves pressed him about it
Some Draymond precision with that shot motion.
So funny that these get no engagement
How dare you post anything that doesn’t remotely prove that OKC is the worst team and absolutely cheating (flopping) every time they touch the ball. The california trolls won’t like this.
Natural shooting motion
Ethical basketball IMO
The irrational hatred for OKC just tells me they’re going to be a dynasty. People did this with the warriors. “They would lose every game if they called all their illegal screens🤬😡” like nah they wouldn’t buddy they’re just the best team in the game. Spurs are the harden rockets, y’all convincing yourselves they’re going to beat the thunder. You’re just gonna get more irrational when they lose and you start saying the NBA/refs rigged it for okc😂😭
This is why NBA discourse is cooked.
The main narrative makes you think that the nets were bigger for OKC and that the refs put it in for them.
Was this a poorly officiated game? Yes
Was it rigged for OKC? No
Marcus smart flopped and they gave McCain the call.
Reaves did this shit and baited and fell on at least 3 other possessions but we just pretend it didn’t happen.
What we have are fanbases that are given a free ticket to act like a victim to get online sympathy.
Fuck off with this shit.
That’s more egregious than Draymond’s natural ball kicking shooting motion
As requested by u/TonyGSalsa
Dankeschön
Bitte Sehr
(and thanks to the old days playing Wolfenstein)
That is some bush league shit. What a bitch move from AR.
Disgusting of SGA to put his balls in the way of poor Austin Reaves and laughing after the game at Austin and co storming the refs after the game wagging their finger instead of going to the tunnel.
Yeah but they didn’t call the foul on SGA. Is this ragebait?
A little game of Ro-Sham-Reaves.
SGA didn’t know he was playing.
I think we should stop posting good plays in this sub, and all we should post are replays of foul calls.
That’s a foul but why did his leg swing like that bruh. The NBA gotta do something about this, start calling normal fouls so players don’t need to flop to get calls
It’s just so telling when posts like this get largely ignored. It’s all selective outrage
I feel like its important to note that the Lakers fanbase is massive. So obviously this sub is going to push a lot of Lakers propaganda. Wasn’t it just last season that the Lakers by far led the league in free throws, while also being towards the bottom of the league in shots at the rim? The Thunder and Lakers are both full of foul baiting players that (to me) aren’t fun to watch.
Come on counter jerk let’s gooo
Of course Daniel-son needs a little help against the evil Cobra Shai.
Thats a nice lil technique there. Lil side kick to the nads.
Am I the only one that sees wallace bump him into shai? There are better reaves foul baiting clips than this one.
Unethical basketball. Shai doesn’t even scream at the ref.
Genuinely flinched cause i felt that
People need to stop talking abt “oh but if ___ did this”, “see its unfair for both sides” and stuff like that, we need to talk abt the real topic at hand, how did he walk that off so easily, he definitely lost the meat off
Here comes the pendulum
there’s a cold war going on between lakers fans and okc fans
Dirty as fuck. Reaves is such a putz.
Flagrant on Shai
Ethical nut shot
He definitely kicks out, but is everyone just missing the Wallace bump doing the hands down close-out? It pushes him further right on that kick-out flail to sell the contact (and also steady his landing) and get to the line. Your feet definitely get splayed weird when you get bumped sideways on a jumper. I don’t think he was aiming for SGA at all.
This isn’t quite Draymond’s heat seeking missile against Steven Adams.
“You give and you shall receive”
The dude did a side kick, too. Totally natural basketball move, right? Right?
Vengeance delivered
Should’ve kicked harder
Right in the vageen
I’m just commenting to drive this further up the pages. lmao
The refs were absolutely terrible this game. They were terrible going both ways. People are just so mad at OKC that they don’t care about all the bad calls that went against them as well.
1 call gonna make people forget about how terribly reffed this game was for the lakers lmao.
W agenda highlight
There was this and also what should have been a flagrant where Reeves took down SGA on the fast break (where he actually then fell into LeBron).
Genuinely this sub has fallen off so badly there are more foul posts then great plays that happen in these games just so people can get fake internet points lol 😂
