[Highlight] Angle from fan shows Donovan Mitchell grabbed back of Tobias Harris’ knee on “ankle breaker”
Ain’t no way Spida just yanked him out of the way lmao
Pulled the leg right out of its socket./s
He broke the code
Donovan actually almost always pushes off on his crossovers. Look up a highlight reel and see.
This is going to turn into a thing now.
It would be a shame if the refs had to do their jobs and call offensive fouls.
Can’t even be bothered to call travels or dribble violations to the point where they changed the rules to match the ineptness.
“going to”
most players do, it’s been like that for a while
See what? 🧑🦯➡️
Yeah and it looks cool as hell
They actually pointed this out in the broadcast iirc. He’s fun as hell and I generally love the guy but NOT THIS SERIES, it’s time to be a hater. Leave Tobi alone.
No dude his handle is just THAT tight
Gotta score no matter what
Great angle. Should be an offensive foul, but if you do it smooth enough it does not matter.
Same in street ball when they step on your foot during a cross & you stumble. You can plead your case all you want, doesn’t matter everybody thinks you got crossed
Yeah, even though you’re all white shoes now have a big black print on them 😂 they be like nah it was already like that
Facts
The Lance Stephenson special.
Lance makes it even worse when he does his guitar celebration afterwards lol
i mean you did, good dribbling attacks the feet of the defender if their feet are too slow to get out of the way trip or not a cross is a cross
Get out of the way of the dribblers foot before it steps on yours? Interesting take Cotton.
It’s not a basketball play. It’s a humiliation ritual that accepts the risk of rolling a defenders ankle. Are you tryna hoop or fck up someone’s whole month for 10 secs of laughs?
Yes to you and the other downvoting non ball knowers if the ball handler can close that much space that he’s stepping on your foot as a defender you are beyond cooked how many times do you see that happen to good defenders? Is there a reason larger slower guys often get their foot stepped on/ tripped? Bunch of bums on here lol
Rule of cruel.
It’s as much an offensive foul as MJ’s iconic shot pushoff. Until refs are replaced with robots, that’s just how basketball is played.
“Oooohhh, you wanna do it the spida waaayy”
It was shown on the Amazon Prime broadcast too, from behind but you see his hand lower and yank Tobias’ leg
Donovan Mitchell pretty much said that’s what he would do after last game and seeing what SGA has been getting away with in the playoffs yet again.
He grabbed that knee with the same thrust and ferocity of a happy Steve Ballmer on the sideline with exposed thigh meat next to him
Does Ballmer touch Kawhis thigh meat
Kawhi doesn’t have meat he’s a robot
Okay my mind is a dark place
Now I’m imagining Ballmer cornering Pablo in a dark alley tryna get at his thigh meat
Does a bear shit in the woods?
Balmer is known to touch meat
Bro they touched my digital meat back in the windows vista days
What do you think the side payments were for?
Probably got some of Uncle Dennis too
There aren’t enough tree trunks in the world for Ballmer
Ball-palmer?
I’m upset that I not only get this reference but have it fully visualized in my mind
We really need to do more to limit defense in this league smh
It really just gets in the way of offense, and we can’t have that.
Some 24 Fit supervillain move type shit
Im doin this the next time i hit the gym and hoping i dont get punched in the head immediately after
Bruh this is how all the kids are learning to play now, it’s all off hand displacing the defender work. Nasty stuff
This is why we need to legalize hand checking for defenders lol. Let these guards see how they like it and moreover it gets rid of how much space they get for free these days to do all this goofy shit.
I started hand checking in pick up to counteract the push off epidemic and it’s working really well. I get why hand checking was banned lmao
If you do this just take the lump bro. I’ve been hooked around the waist before but you go after the hammy on a backpedal I’m probably gonna get you and the car you got on one leg
I always thought my crossover sucked I never knew I should just be pushing off
This is my problem with the NBA. These dudes have god-tier crossovers and still be clearing out
Tobias took that shit to heart
It’s definitely a bad look from Mitchell. I don’t think it was inherently malicious . Looks to me like he reflexively grabs onto Tobias to get around him. Where usually a guy goes for a push off on the guys hip/leg. He gets under Tobias’s knee. Which I don’t fault Tobias for jumping up like he did. Someone grabs the back of my knee I’d pop up like Bugs Bunny out of reflex too lmao
Mitchell confirmed as undersized volume shooting two guard.
If Stewart did this people would riot lol
bro if beef stew hit an in and out to double cross like this you’re right, i would lose my mind
Hahaha that actually made me laugh out loud
Picturing this is fucking hilarious
Front page 2k+ in under 10 minutes with multiple comments begging for his suspension
And if my grandmother had wheels she would have been a bike
[deleted]
Stewart isn’t smart enough to do something like this lmfao
Friendly fire?
who is stewart
Isaiah Stewart II, nicknamed Beef Stew, is an American professional basketball player for the Detroit Pistons of the National Basketball Association
wow, thank you pistons veteran
Thank you Ryan Day. I loved you in 2023-2024
we are meant to grow even after we are brought down to nothing !
Man I usually am not the negative fan, but I feel like all the attention on refereeing because of the social media age is completely ruining the sport. The nba has no desire to fix it, they literally just silence dissent by fining the players/coahces. It just sucks man I feel like the league knows it’s a problem and doesn’t care. Big fuck you to the fans. I’m sad
I want FIBA refs or something. NBA referees are genuinely biased towards offense and towards names on jerseys
Fiba knows what they’re doing. The rule that fouls in the last 2 minutes award FTA and possession would help so much with the flow of close NBA games. (But eat away advertising opportunities so fuck the fans I guess)
Yeah I think they’d rather just sweep it under the rug as I’m guessing acknowledging it is even more of a bad look from their perspective
They fined the coaches and players long before social media and in general sports don’t work if the referees are undermined by everyone. There’s a reason every sport, every league does that. The refs are not the high paid group here they are the least powerful party but in a position of authority for that 1 game every time. That said, they do have problems and they can fix most of them if they cared. I’d start with more fines for shit like this that isn’t called. Flops, dirty little fouls unseen. Throw out a fine every time and ramp it up. And add suspensions for every x. You aren’t going to review everything live but you can make shit pretty painful pretty quick
It might just be baked in. Referee rage bait seems to be one of the biggest drivers of engagement for the league at this point. The frequent stoppages also lead to less questioning of the incessant advertising.
I don’t mind if the refs aren’t as good as we want them to be. NBA players are quick and study exactly what to do to trick them, and it’s impossible to get every call right. But when the best way to win games in the National Basketball Association is to not use basketball moves there is clearly a problem
This is exactly why you can never trust the TV broadcast angle anymore.
Hulu has an angle I love called Above the Rim. Would be my favorite except it’s a tad too narrow so you can’t see the full half court.
fwiw this was visible there too. the comments pointing it out just weren’t getting upvoted over HIP BREAKERRRR 🤪🤪🤪 lol
Damn, that’s kinda crazy. I don’t think its malicious, but it’s crazy
It’s reckless fsho. It’s dirty and he knows what can happen. Not trying to hurt him but if he did(and he did) he’s gonna shrug that and chalk it up to the game
It looks quite malicious lol
Intentional, sure, malicious no
yea hes doing it to get free not to hurt him
Certainly not “ethical hoops” though
No not really. It doesn’t look like he used really any pressure but his hand is definitely touching there
i mean he most definitely uses pressure, he literally propels himself forward by pushing off with that hand
Intentional and offensive foul? Yes. Malicious? No.
We gonna start calling off-arms and moving screens malicious too?
Crafty vet high iq move
Dirty MF
Dirty Don
NBA can fix this: add a 4th ref on the floor.
Or let replay center call techs during timeouts.
Nah just give the fans recording with their phones a whistle
Unless the 4th ref comes in with a different mindset it won’t help much.
Oh…hello
I thought that looked weird on the replay. And he has the nerve to complain about his calls lol
That initial carry was crazy
He carries another 3 times after too
Tobias is a hoe for making me think the season was over cause he was trying to draw attention to a foul
I swear he’s had a season ending injury every game in the playoffs
honestly that angle makes it pretty clear — hand definitely makes contact with the back of the knee. whether it’s intentional is another debate but refs missed this one
Get this loser off my team
That’s pretty fucked up.
Taking the Tonya Harding approach I see
Same thing he did in the Raptors game trying to get by Jakobe. He slipped though and Jakobe got called for the foul.
I was looking for this comment. He tried to grab Jakobes leg, fell, and got 2 FTs.
Nah, Toronto just has bad players
You remember back in HS when you’re standing there propped on one leg and your homie would sneak up and put their knee into the back of your knee and you would collapse? Lmao
Great video angle. Makes you appreciate how hard it is to stay in front of the guy.
Stuff like this probably happens all the time and we don’t notice realistically. I don’t think you become an elite scorer like this without pushing the limits of the rules and force the defender into a foul or giving you space.
FYI a lot of players work on this move to slingshot themselves forward on tight turns. It’s done with teammates and opponents.
The NBA desperately needs to impleme the concept of offensive hand checking
Plus call the blatant carry.
I mean anyone who plays basketball knows once your blow by a defender, you’re using your off hand/off arm to swipe and seal them to you’re hip so you can hit that angle and propel you forward. Main issue Don did it to his knee instead of like the thigh or hip.
That’s a lil dirty to me but it’s hard to tell because slo-mo makes everything looks intentional. It should be called a offensive foul tho.
Harris was still fully in front of him
LMAO
Tobias Harris over knee?!
Ooooo you got to do it the Spyda way
Donovan “Pivot Foot Knee” Mitchell
High level players do this all the time
Can’t shit on the refs this is like impossible to see in real time.
No friends in the playoffs!
Some space jam type moves
Average NBA ref: “Ah, dang, we missed the call. Tobias’ knee should have been whistled for a blocking foul.”
Said it in the other thread: there’s not enough force being applied here to be impactful.
People think he’s doing some some Vulcan nerve pinch, when the contact is incidental.
also one of the more egregious carries ive seen in a while lmao. jordan poole ass
Carry offensive foul
Wow that is sneaky
This reminds me of that street hooper “The Professor”. This small man always pushes his defenders on his crossover. The hype of everyone screaming and his smooth and natural way to push the defender allows him to get away with it.
Would have made it to the NBA if it weren’t for politics
s/
Slick
And the first dribble was a carry lol
low man wins. next time a big man switches out on me in pickup I”m trying this (big meaning 5’11” and up)
man is that the play where it looked like he might have fucked up his hip, too?
im glad he seemed to be fine, or at least played that way.
Oh, so this is why teams are scoring 150 ppg
It’s the playoffs, go get it.
Why is he trying to kill him?
Every cross over I’ve seen this year just makes me appreciate Hunters cross on Giddey more and more. Probably the cleanest ankle breaker of all time in terms of actually dropping someone
This dirty rat is going to end someone’s career.
With all the technology and cameras around the court, you’d think the league would see this.
Should be a flagrant 2 that’s nasty
the original angle everyone was commenting on showed it too, people were just too busy yelling HIP BREAKER at each other to actually watch it lmao
Spida used his secret technique and stung him in the back of the knee with some ancient acupuncture.
You can see his hip situation gets triggered by the ninja strike, not the fall.
oh no
Its a foul but players are taught to hook ankles/back of leg/waist to get past defenders
Coaches actually teach this.
The new meta
Insanely dirty.
That not a grab he just pressing his fingers behind the kneecap like a deep tickle
Cornball bum with a 16 year olds facial hair
Tobias tried to sell it.
nah that’s a very sensitive area. Kids used to always hit the back of their buddy’s knees to make the leg collapse when we were young. It doesn’t take much and the leg goes dead basically
Ok my bad
all good, if you’ve never experienced it before it is kind of similar to hitting your “funny bone” but with less physical pain and more of a sudden fatigue like it becomes completely useless and you can’t put your weight on it after. You quite literally collapse as your leg just gives out
