I’ve been saying for years that the NBA (and all professional sports with the same problem) should be reviewing these after the fact.
Don’t put it on the refs in game, because they should just be able to focus on what is happening and not have to worry about players making shit up.
But review every foul call after the game (NBA already has this for L2M) and have a very strict 3 strike policy for any player that has faked, or exaggerated, contact.
Increasing fines for the first 2 (will probably catch most of the league) but then suspension for 3, and increasing fines/suspensions after that.
I garauntee that 99% of players would stop immediately once they know a suspension is the certain outcome, and even in situations where they fall from no contact, they will immediately get up and tell the ref it wasn’t a foul.
The NHL does this and flopping is generally not an issue. It would be so easy for the NBA to crack down on it this way, I have never understood why they haven’t.
I’ve never seen a league miss so many layups (intended) when it comes to improving its product.
