[Cowherd] “KD is like buying a boat. The first day you have it and the first day you sell it are the two happiest days.”
I don’t like Cowherd but this is a spot on analogy
He’s the GOAT of Analogies.
The first time Cowherd makes an analogy and the last time he makes an analogy are the two happiest moments listening to him talk
I’ve had lots of very happy memories on our boat. I’m not sure the analogy with Cowherd’s analogies holds up because there’s no happiness in between his analogies.
Lol!!!
Reddit on sir!!
Cowherd didn’t come up with this analogy, he said his producer (Ryan Musick) did. He does make good analogies though
This particular boat analogy is decades old.
I presume Cowherd was crediting his producer as the one who originally said the boat analogy about KD and NOT that his producer invented the analogy.
Gene Simmons, somewhere, is saying he invented the analogy.
I am assuming he also didn’t invent the words as well?
(I don’t think anyone is assuming him or his producer came up with a well known analogy that people’s parents, grandpaents, etc. have been saying. Just the Durant application.)
People have been comparing KD to a boat for decades?
No he didnt.
Only take artist on cable that consistently makes me do a double take.
Not american but heard this a couple of times before.
Decent of him to note it’s actually someone else’s zinger
That was my first thought. That’s the kind of thing that will make your people love you as a leader.
I mean there was that whole fox sports misogyny and cheating stuff and the document was like “colin’s great to work with and doesn’t cheat on his wife” lol, seems like he’s a pretty good dude even if he is annoying sometimes
If a talking head’s worst quality is “he just annoying and I don’t like his sports opinions” I’ll take that 10 out of 10 times. Granted that the bar is in hell, but still
I guess, but their sports opinions are supposed to be the whole point.
I wish I could snap that whole part of the industry away.
They’re all just hot take artists. They only have jobs because they say something interesting and it’s a lot easier to say something interesting when your opinion is controversial. He literally has an ad where he compares himself to Brady and Lebron and says “People hate me because I’m always right.” No way he believes half the shit he says. But it gets the people going and he knows people hatewatch him. The checks still clear whether they like him or not
Dude. Sports TV was so much better before this shit started. I’d look forward to getting home and watching Around the Horn and PTI. I don’t understand how people watch this crap.
His “sports opinions” can be problematic just look at the stuff he’s said about Dominicans, John Wall, and Sean Taylor
What did he say about them?
What about if a basketball player’s worst quality is that they can’t dribble, shoot, or play defense?
Sounds like he’s got good hustle lots of heart. Doesn’t cheat the game.
My exact thoughts reading this quote lol
If you watched the clip, Cowherd didn’t come up with this analogy, he said his producer (Ryan Musick) did.
I don’t like Cowherd but his daughter is hot
You like his herd
What if her personality is an exact copy of her dad’s?
Do you still sign up for that carnival ride?
Toughest tests for his strongest soldiers
Wouldn’t be riding her personality.
Let’s hope she’s more like the other parent then
Cowherd says more “good” stuff than “bad” stuff on his show. It’s just that his bads are really bad. He also has a segment where he admits what he was wrong about each show, so definitely like him better than most talking heads
Heartbreaking: The Worst Person You Know Just Made A Great Point
with how the country has shifted, he has aged really well lmao. and his pod network with club 520 and timpf one is great
I hate him more than anyone not named Skip Bayless, but he nailed this.
Totally hits home for me. I felt the exact same way about my yacht.
His Tatum bit is still an all timer.
ya same. as soon as kd is on a team , the team is regretting it
Now maybe but isn’t it wrong for all of his teams before Phoenix?
Bc you cry about him saying something bad about your team. When you don’t take him as seriously he’s entertaining
This analogy has cemented that I will never own a boat
Yeah, so relateable
KD is like “we are all good Lebron, you can go”
“Dwayne Haskins can’t win a Super Bowl”
Well yeah that would really hard for him to accomplish currently
rip
Nah KD would be like “we are all good LeBron, I can go now.”
He cooked im afraid
Speaking of boats, they are so expensive to own especially with gas prices nowadays.
BOAT = Bust Out Another Thousand.
A boat is a hole in the water you throw money into
this is “live laugh love” for coastal grandpas
Okay Rick.
Unfortunately that’s a bar
Heartbreaking: The Worst Person You Know Just Made a Great Point
Shout out to Yachty, but this ain’t a little boat
I can’t remember the last time KD was actually happy. He has been miserable everywhere
The wrong people got in his ear the 2016 offseason. He didn’t wanna leave OKC but did and that’s the black cloud hanging over him. He can’t escape it.
Those people robbed us of a proper Cavs vs Warriors rivalry, and Thunder vs Warriors rivalry.
It’s the Twitter era. Star players in butt hurt a bunch of 15-year-olds making fun of them.
It still pisses me off to this day that three way gauntlet was ruined. Those next few years were setup to be awesome with those three teams. What’s even more wild is that OKC might have been the best of the three.
I’m pretty sure Al Horford said he had a deal lined up to where he was gonna join OKC if KD re-signed. He would have certainly tipped the scales in OKC’s favor
they robbed Billy Donovan of a HOF NBA career
Lmao he trashed the hell out of okc when he left
And warriors, and nets; and suns and currently Houston!
What do you mean didn’t want to leave?
You haven’t heard about his breakdown, telling his agent or whomever “why did you let me leave?!”
Haha no
Every time he was on Bill Simmon’s pod with his business partner/agent, Rich Kleiman, I got huge con-man vibes from Kleiman.
Cool it with the antisemitic remarks
Didn’t even realize it was one, but I apologize and have edited it.
you might be confusing it with Shylock, “shyster” is just a generic insult for lawyers and not antisemitic
No. It is not. The two terms are nearly identical in usage and meaning
What makes you think that? Why would ANY rich young black man, or any human being for that matter, want to spend any time in Oklahoma if they didn’t have to?
Listen, I’m from South Texas. I’ve been to SA and OKC. I’d rather go to OKC 10⁄10. Less crowded, less dirty, zero Tex Mex but I can compromise. At least La Cantera is cool!
OKC has some great Tex Mex. You just need to know where to go.
Where should I go? I visit once a year.
Abel’s; Hidalgo’s; Tacos Don Nacho; Azteca; original San Marcos; Tequila Chulo’s (amazing but expensive)
Any of that near Bricktown
Not super near, but Chulos is about a 10 minute drive north.
I’ve never been to either, but your comment feels like someone saying they’d rather go to Topeka than New Orleans because it’s “less crowded and less dirty.” OKC just seems like a fancy strip mall in the middle of a farm field. While SA seems like it would have some funky interesting vibe and history to it. Then again I like going to dingy punk rock clubs and am not afraid of dirt, crowds, or dirty crowds.
I’ve lived in LA my whole life and would choose to just stay here. I wouldn’t go to the state of Oklahoma if the lives of everyone in Oklahoma depended on it. Actually that would just make me less likely to go.
My god, what a monstrous, lumbering superiority complex you have for the great personal accomplishment of being born in a wealthy coastal state…
If you at all consider yourself “progressive”, please reconsider that label. Spewing venom at poor rural people is the crudest form of elitism I can think of.
I can’t imagine being so conceited as to think people’s lives are worthless because of where they live, and then posting my nasty opinions publicly, but it’s hardly surprising from a miserable internet troll.
Cue substanceless snarky clap-back, which I won’t be reading, having already blocked you. You have nothing of value to say, just rancid classism and bitterness stemming from some source I don’t care to think about.
Not leaving the nest. Disappointing.
lol. Gee I wonder why someone doesn’t leave the city everyone wants to live in. What garbage red state city do you live in?
Bragging about Los Angeles yet making everything political. Embarrassing that it’s your personality.
lol
Took two seconds to see you’re a complete fucking hypocrite.
How you gonna be a Texas Tech alum and say something like that?
You replied to the same comment twice. You put too much stock into your perception of yourself on the Internet. I’m silencing this conversation because it’s beneath me.
It’s funnier because I read it as he was from Louisiana, lol.
Agreed, OKC should not have an NBA team
And yet it does, and will.
He’s very thin skinned with a victim complex while simultaneously being one of the most talented and most watched athletes in basketball history. It’s a recipe for disaster. I think he would have been a much happier person if he was in the league 2 decades earlier before social media blew up. He loves the game but struggles with everything that the game brings with it.
The phone looks small as fuck in his hands too lol its mad how social media has really run its course on him.
Bro has generational wealth from his career but is hooked on twitter like teenage girls were in 2016. The difference is they grew up and moved on and he never did. It would almost be funny if it wasn’t so sad to see him trashing young guys that grew up idolizing him.
…is he our generation’s Shaq?
To an extent but Shaq would own it publicly versus KD stewing quietly on burners lol. I also actually think that Shaq played better when he felt disrespected. I think KD on the other hand let what others would think of him negatively hurt his play.
He just needs to gtfo social media. It’s really not that hard. I don’t have a twitter, bluesky, tiktok or instagram account and never go on those sites. Reddit’s as far as I let it go and if I was a player I sure as shit would not read NBA subs here.
Olympics.
Right before he won his first championship.
And you can get from Houston to Cancun using it which is nice.
Yep.
Looks longingly at my #35 Suns jersey in the closet
You’re holding on to that Dragan Bender jersey? You’re a true fan.
Jokes on you I have both
A lot of you must have boats. My brokeass can’t relate to this haha
I would wager that the majority that is saying the analogy is spot on dont have a boat or have ever owned one. Boats are amazing.
They are indeed. Having grown up on them and an owner myself as an adult a lot of people don’t realize that the upfront cost of the boat itself is not nearly the end of the costs and end up in financial hot water.
So his statement can be correct in some instances.
Buying a poorly maintained boat or poorly maintaining it yourself can cost a lot. I think thats where the issue comes from.
Do you guys who own boats not have a dad who is a professional boat mechanic?
The best boat is your friend’s boat.
It’s just a sort of well known saying among loaded billionaire type circles. It’s not really about “regular boats” but moreso about huge yachts as the maintenance cost and staffing are immense. You’ll pay like 10-15% of the purchase cost every year just to maintain the yacht, leading to rich folks just realizing that their big ass yacht is a type of money dump no other luxury can quite compare to. So eventually all these guys buying a huge yacht to flex on other rich people sell them because the couple of cool weeks per year aren’t worth the huge pain in the ass and yearly costs amounting to 100s of millions within a couple of years
GOAT analogies by cowherd
No bus-rider, welcome boat-rider !!!
His burners are on standby lol
Cowherd may be abysmal dogshit at predicting the future or even properly analyzing the present, but his retrospectives are usually pretty well done.
Couldn’t agree more in this lol
I dunno man I love having a boat
As someone that lived in an area where a lot of my friends had boats, I was always happy they owned a boat and not me
As someone who enjoys boating by myself at sunrise, I love not having to rely on anyone else. Now when it comes to owning a cabin, you want to know a guy.
Same
Think Colin believes all boats are yachts? lol. I’m in Minnesota. You can get a fishing boat cheap and have years of fun
We’ll take the mystery box
This thread is filled with comments calling this the best analogy while I’m sitting here learning that people don’t like owning boats.
I mean they are called boats for a reason: Bust Out Another Thousand
fuck boats
Boats are amazing, poorly maintained ones are not.
Kd is like buying a bus
Should have stayed in golden state.
He left to try to prove something that he knew he couldn’t: be a leader who could win a chip as a top dog
If he had stayed in golden state, he could have left the question of whether he could lead a team to a chip in the air for people to discuss. He wasn’t always in Golden state and was successful as the best player and MVP in OKC. Even if you want to say Russel was the vocal leader, most people would had given credit to KD as the best player on a OKC team that won the chip. I don’t think the Thunder were winning a chip in that era, but it’s one of those “What Ifs” that…had he stayed in GS, people could debate. His insufficiencies as a leader would have never been on display like this. We would only know the “non-GSW” years as him being on a Thunder team that made the finals when he was 23 years old and 3 WCF. Him joining a team that he blew a 3-1 lead to would come up, but it was always gonna come up regardless of anything.
Also, while not as loved as Steph or Klay, he could have eventually became endeared to the Bay if he stayed longer. Probably another chip and FMVP.
Instead now we have three places where he failed(and arguably the biggest super team failure in one of those places) along with creating nothing but drama each place. While I mostly blame Kyrie for Brooklyn, there’s no excuse for PHX and now with HOU.
Speaking of Kyrie, ain’t it funny how Kyrie became seen as a leader and locker room vet in Dallas while KD has become now known as the locker room cancer? Oh how the tables have turned
Long story shirt, going to GSW was dumb and leaving them was even dumber.
people were finally starting to appreciate him there too, especially when he was fighting to come back in the 2019 finals. If he had stayed I’m sure he would’ve felt the fan love by this point plus more rings.
That headline is the most accurate thing I have heard about the NBA ever.
The worst person you know just made a great point
KD not even a bus rider anymore.
Oh no, I agree. Fastball dotted up on the corner.
I must be in the minority, I absolutely loved my boat from day 1 till the day i sold it and was sad to see it go :(
I don’t care if someone finds something he says occasionally valid or funny. Downvotes on everything Cowherd-related because in a just world, the clown that said that John Wall was a bad leader because his father wasn’t in his life would not have a platform.
Ok that’s funny AF
This might be the best analogy I’ve ever heard.
People really act like KD is Paul George
KD might be an emotional lesbian but he’s one of the greatest scorers of all time
He doesn’t make any team better, plus he’s old and a toxic teammate
Do you think instead of KD calling Jabari low key r——- he called him lowkey a superstar, Jabari will stop being a trash ass bust? LMAO
Or he could just get off the burners, actually try to coach them up and teach some of his skills like you know, other vets do such as LeBron, Duncan used to do, etc
Even Harden was helping maxey with his game and maxey spoke highly of that
Are you implying that he doesn’t do those things? Why would you assume he doesn’t?
https://youtube.com/shorts/fXCS8hgoFAw?si=Ti-fYpHyOQ_Aj-R5
A short clip of them working out isn’t much
I’ve never heard a player talk about him the way Maxey spoke about Harden or players have spoken about LeBron/Duncan
Part of the problem is all that good is undone when you’re posting about your own teammates and calling them the R word…
rockets wouldn’t have come close to playoffs without his points
Then why were they a 2 seed last year without him lol
You should do your research
I watched nearly every Rockets game the last two years. He definitively made the team significantly better. Maybe you should try watching basketball instead of looking at the team’s record or twitter posts about the “vibes”?
KD is up there with Shaq for “what might’ve been if his head was on straight.” How many titles does he get in Golden State if he could’ve stomached being a 1A with Curry? And don’t tell me he had to leave because of Draymond, he could’ve pushed Dray out.
This is a great comparison
Lmao I love this
Fuckin nailed it lmao
Next team:
https://youtu.be/Po4adxJxqZk
You would think KD has played all 5 games VS the lakers and averaged 15 ppg on 40% shooting the way people talk about him
“KD is like a boat. He’s a hole in the water that you throw money into.”
Not clicking on that trash dude
How is everyone in the comments relating to buying a boat?! I’m the only poor mfer here?
Wouldn’t know, never had a boat.
as a Nets fan i disagree. being at game 5 for his 49 point triple double against the Bucks.. that was the happiest i’ve ever been as a basketball fan. from Harden being questionable going into the game and playing to watching the slow comeback all game lead by the best player on the court, KD, it’s going to be hard to top that.
Not gonna lie, he cooked here
Perfect analogy
[deleted]
How did he not contribute to the team success? The team had a better record than last year with FVV out for the season (and Adams later), and he basically was out for the playoffs, only playing one game. The rockets were horrible without him vs. the lakers. KD really gets blamed for the weirdest things
This guy is crazy with these lol
KD had a great season & was injured during playoffs
BOAT = Bust Out Another Thousand
*35 second analogy the his writing team wrote for him*
*rattle off a quirky semi-elitist hot take*
“And now Joy Milkers with the moos!”
*interview a syncophant for 15 minutes*
*repeat this a few times times over the course of a show hours*
*call it a day*
Colin is so GOATed its unreal
Best line of the year right there. Thanks
That’s how I felt about kyrie. When we had KD, I enjoyed watching him on a nightly basis and there is always what could have been, but when it ended I was ready to get off the drama train.
he might be right here but cowherd doesn’t know basketball. Rated OG as the 2nd best player in the series and Paul George over KAT lol
Cowherd is a casual.
Colid Coward is the old school hot take trash man, but that other guy, I forget his name, he’s not bad honestly.
Why are you guys posting so much Cowherd content on this sub lately? He’s trash and not worth anyone’s time. lol
That analogy has been around forever, and it sure applies when it comes to KD. He has to be the most insecure superstar in the league. Great great player but always has some petty complaint
You forgot all the money you have to throw into it as it loses its value
Reminder that Cowherd is a hot take artist that doesn’t even watch a single minute of basketball.
It’s an older joke sir, but it checks out
Shannon Sharpe made a good point on his podcast the other night about KD being a pure basketball player.
He just shows up to do his job and goes home. KD isn’t the type to go out with teammates to build chemistry.
Once he got his ring he stopped caring about being a team-first guy.
Refuse to ever his voice and read anything he says if I can help it
Cowherd speaks
Don’t acknowledge.
Next
As opposed to the second day you sell it?
Wtf do you broke asses in the comments here know about buying boats like this analogy is so relatable?
Yeah no
People forget the level of dominance during the KD warrior days, they knew they we’re winning the chip or at the bare minimum making the finals before the season even started multiple times from the insanly stacked western Conference. I’m pretty sure the warriors were pretty happy.
Nobody forgot about KDs warriors days, it’s just that literally nobody cares about it because it was basically cheating. Joining a 73 win team was the most fraudulent thing a star has ever done. Only was even possible because of the massive salary cap jump that the NBPA refused to let kick in over several years instead of 1 year
Yeah it sucked for 29 teams and wasn’t fair but the warriors definitely weren’t happy to let him go like Collin says
Yeah I get what you mean. I think if he had re-signed though, it wouldn’t have continued that way because their salary cap would’ve been much tighter. In that scenario, I could see them also trading him away a year or 2 later
in the two seasons before he joined they had won an NBA title, made the finals twice, and broken the all time wins record. they were going to be perennial favorites regardless, which is precisely why he joined
It most definitely wasn’t a for gone conclusion they were beating the Kawhi spurs, harden cp3 rockets.
He joined for a easy path to a chip yes but with that level of domaince I’m fairly certain the warriors didn’t have buyers remorse like the way Collin pretends
i said they were going to be favorites not that it would be a foregone conclusion
Because they went 73-9 the year before, you could’ve added any all star a tier below KD (superstar) and everyone would’ve thought they were gonna win the chip again.
I just don’t agree with that personally I don’t think a DeMar derozen or a 2018 Jimmy Butler would have been enough of an addition to guarantee beating the Cavs rockets and spurs.
The west generally was absolutely stacked during those years
From what I’ve seen, Warriors fans love the 2015, 2016, and 2022 teams more than they like any of the KD teams. When KD was there, some of the happiest moments were the games he missed because they could run back the more Curry centric style. The 2019 season was miserable because everyone knew KD was unhappy and about to leave.
For this analogy, they probably enjoyed the boat more than any other team has since, but I think even they were happier both before and after.
