It’s a joint. Imagine it like any other joint you experience in real life, like a door hinge. If I tear the door off the wall, the hinge is still attached appropriately on one side, right? It doesn’t magically fly off both parts

I’m not sports med or ortho but I have an MD, and that degree of dislocation will require surgical intervention to repair the ligament damage, so Vando is almost assuredly done for the rest of the playoffs. That injury was gnarly, and I feel bad for him and wish him a speedy recovery.

I think broken would probably be better. Broken means it’s the bones. Dislocated means it’s the ligaments. Bones heal on their own while ligaments require surgical reconstruction

Not a full dislocation as that means all the ligaments involved are torn. And ligaments need surgical repair as opposed to broken bones which heal on their own. If it’s a partial or subluxation dislocation (ie. Kobe dislocating his finger) then you can pop it back in place and keep going. And even that takes some balls to do.

I did this kind of dislocation with my pinky toe once. Pinky toe was completely perpendicular to my foot, of of the bones tore the skin too. No break though. Absolutely brutal, shocking, and hella painful. Super quick fix and stitch though, I was limping for like a week afterwards. But not a ton of pain, just some bruising.
