It feels like players are taking advantage of fans’ discontent with refs to save their PR by dropping the “I’m just playing ethical basketball I’d score more if I was like those dirty floppers” line lol

Obviously there are bad calls but it’s gotten to the point where players can just blame the refs for their own bad performance and people will automatically side with them whether it’s actually warranted or not

As a neutral I didn’t think the officiating was handing Detroit the game today by any means they missed a few calls for both teams which is normal

I was watching this game the whole time thinking how great it was to see a team like Detroit play tough and score through contact without flopping. Then I would see Harden, Schroder, Strus, and Mitchell fall to the ground on screens and light contact. They did it all last series, too.

I didn’t see any possessions this game where he got fouled on a drive. He couldn’t get to the rim anyway because of a clogged paint. Most of his shot attempts were floaters off swing steps.

Seems like the consensus is he’s had a bad whistle all season? I didn’t see a ton tonight that were egregious misses and I’m typically pretty unbiased in that regard.

Honestly he’s not wrong, the league has incentivized flopping, you have to do it to compete with the other stars.

Also, the only other undersized guard playing in these playoffs in JB and he tends to flop/throw his head back at times but I feel like he started doing that because he wasn’t getting a whistle his first couple years on the Knicks. I think due to Mitchell being a little bulkier he doesn’t get those calls but he’s going to need to continue driving and to get to the line similar to what he did last year in the Pacers series so he needs to start selling the contact.

Basketball is simply not made to be an ultra competitive sport. It’s too subjective. Referees have more power than in almost any other sport. Football (soccer for you americans) used to be that way but with VAR it’s gotten a lot better.

NBA refs are broadly good: some amazing, some bum.

Issue is the NBA has an officiating problem: will never call off ball fouls, won’t call illegal screens, won’t call travels. But will call blocking fouls on the slightest contact against the Reaves/Shais of the world.

Won’t call off hand pushes except suddenly for one series.

It’s tough to understand what’s legal and what’s not. Because the league selectively wants to enforce some types of fouls and ignore others.n

regardless of whether you think certain players/coaches are valid, the number of complaints against refs is crazy high and will force the league to do something
