I’ve been a rival fan in an opposing stadium. I was booed and had popcorn thrown at me, which was fine tbh. You just can’t put your hands on an opposing fan though. That’s dangerous for everyone involved because you don’t know how that person is going to react or what a mob can do.

Verbal abuse is whatever but once something crosses the physical boundary, regardless of if that’s somebody’s hand or an inanimate object or whatever, now you’re violating someone’s personal space and their bodily autonomy. I‘d probably look the other way if somebody who had popcorn thrown at them started swinging back at the popcorn thrower.
