Pulitzer Prize Winning Pablo Torre: Meet the Prosecutor Who Investigated Steve Ballmer’s Clippers Nightmare
He not letting this go. Wonder if the NBA’s investigation is done yet.
About a month ago, you had a bunch of spin being applied to kind of shrug off Pablo’s findings. If there is a smoking gun (ie an email saying “No we’re paying Kawahi under the table to skert the cap requirements.”), the NBA has to assume that Pablo has it. Because if it comes out after the NBA investigation is over, then Silver would have a real bad day. Like a NFL Ray Rice video bad day.
Just a reminder that there is no requirement to have a “smoking gun.” It’s not true of actual litigation in court nor of NBA internal investigations, which specifically allow for findings based on circumstantial evidence. It’s nice to have a smoking gun obviously, but not required.
So not that bad of a day unless you’re Ray Rice.
You may want to know that Silver himself said that a smoking gun is still circumstantial evidence.
Pablo and his team are going to force Ballmer to be severely punished by the NBA. Adam Silver having another bad day. And Ballmer seems especially stupid despite being able to afford to employ any lawyer in the world.
Meanwhile, Clippers fans are still in denial.
Give some credit to the team Pablo is working with as well as the sources who have been willing to come forward and talk to him. It’s not “singlehandedly”.
Fair point. Edited.
Leave the fans out of it. In denial about what? We just want to see what the punishment is and then move on lol
Reading your sub it’s a bunch of “this is a nothingburger” and “even if they did it isn’t an issue”.
The problem with the Clippers cheating, at least to me, is that you still fucking suck. I mean it’s a disgrace to the great teams in history that have cheated in their sports. You cheat to win. That’s the point.
It’s a disgrace to competition.
The fans? Fuck outta here, the Clippers fans are the real victims here, vast majority if not all of the fans hate this situation and want everyone involved gone, and finally put this behind us even if the punishment makes it take half a decade to start a rebuild because of this shit.
You all just want to fake outrage and move on, while we are actually robbed of enjoying bball from these crooks
Clippers sub is 50⁄50 on if their guilty or not. I think you’d be singing a different tune if you guys would have won in 2021
Clippers sub is an echo chamber that doesn’t represent the fanbase.
If you go to the Pablo Pulitzer thread, you’ll see a bunch of Clippers flairs calling this a nothingberger and complaining about Pablo’s reporting style.
Unreal that kawhi is still allowed to play basketball
Accountability doesn’t exist in 2026
If you make people money, especially very rich people more money, you can do whatever you want. And the scale of corruption increases the more money is involved
I wonder if this prosecutor was allowed to ask questions about Ballmer - as opposed to Whitewash and Lipton LLP.
Oh he was? Fascinating.
DO SOMETHING FOR ONCE ADAM SILVER WTF!!!!
Adam Silver and the NBA is 100% getting ready to sweep this under the rug with little or no penalty.
Clips should be given a strong cap space penalty for 5 years, have to move players and give the cap space penalty to the rest of the league. Take some picks too if you’d like.
This is not Ballmers first time cheating / breaking the rules of the league.
total bullshit that not a single penalty was applied against the Clippers Org after the deluge of information that was provided by this reporting.
This is inexcusable by Silver and the Clippers.
Most important points of the episode:
The NBA has told the DOJ that Sanberg has been cooperative with its investigation.
Balmer, in his Victim Impact Statement, is attempting to discredit Sanberg and exclaim that as a man who’s committed fraud, that anything Sanberg says or any documents he’s given shouldn’t be treated as trustworthy.
favourite was when prosecutor Lou felt it necessary to state “i’m a Celtics fan.”
