[Highlight] Minnesota wins game 1 after a missed 3 by Champegnie
This was some primo CTE hoops by 2 teams
No the Spurs got rid of Primo
But they picked up CTE
Keldon rammed into one too many peoplešš
Spurs merely adopted the CTE ball. We were born in it, molded by it.
There isn’t a team in the league that can go bozo for bozo against us in the playoffs. I’ll never forget them chucking away that game against the mavs, not even mentioning the fucking Grizzlies series a few years back.
KATās mentals in that Memphis series⦠my god.
It takes a serious amount of tomfoolery to blow two separate 20 point leads in one game
Bozo did the dub
Feels like every Wolves series is CTE hoops. Maybe y’all defense is just that disruptive
We succeed when weāre able to force other teams to play CTE ball too. We will try to drag you down to our level of stupid and see who out-stupids the other.
I think this is dangerous for a team as young as the Spurs.
Bro, we stole one as massive underdogs who shots horribly from the line. That was gritty as fuck
What if both teams did the only thing they canāt afford to do, on repeat, for the final 3 minutes
Dude, watch Ant jog back like itās the 2nd quarter of a regular season game against Washington.
I legitimately think he ran out of gas and his brain shut down for the final minute or two
Hated every minute of the fourth quarter, even when spurs were winning. Ugly ass dogfight of basketball
I’m perfectly good with not calling the timeout and letting it play. Got the look, just couldn’t make it. Live with it and move on.
Exactly. Yeah it’s easy after the fact to criticize, but they got an open 3 from one of their best 3 point shooters. That’s the best you’re going to do with a timeout.
Our best 3 point shooter I’d say. I’ll live with that shot all day
You’re right.
it was a great look. i still prefer to use the timeout as a rest in such a physical game when your star get the rebound w/ 6sec. lets vic be involved in the last play. but great look from a great shooter
A timeout massively benefits the defense more. They can get set and put in their best defenders
Timeout gives the defense the advantage. Minny wouldāve been able to rest and put in their best defensive lineup. Coach did the right thing
I mean considering he has a pretty good shot to just dunk and take it to overtime safely, I think that’s still the better play
Yeah, honestly you couldn’t have asked for a better play even if it was coming out of a time out. A wide-open look for your best shooter. Just gotta make it, is all.
Plus, calling a timeout allows a set defense with Gobert back on the floor. Iām definitely fine with the shot attempt, though obviously wish the shot went in
Got a great look and idiots here saying they needed a time out. I swear they don’t have any basketball experience
You don’t give the defense time to set up, for this exact reason. It worked out almost perfect, just missed the shot
Crying for Wemby to take that shot when he was 0/8 from 3 and the guy who shot it is their best 3 point shooter
irrational stans are the same with every player
I personally disagree, itās a matter of opinion.
Advancing the ball saves a ton of time, ATOs are generally very efficient.
They only needed 2 points, many guys in foul trouble for Timberwolves I think itās worth going for something at the rim and trying to draw a foul.
P&R or some kind of cut to basket make guys switch and play defense.
You have a guy who is 7ā5ā give him the ball and let him do his thing, even if heās having a bad game.
Spurs also seem to be similar in ATO points per possession and fast break
Biggest thing is Harper didnāt look ready to push.
Yeah everyone bitching but Iām satisfied with that shot. It happens
You got to not look at the result. Do you take a feet set, open 3pter from Champagnie for the win? I certainly do. I donāt see how you could get a better look by taking the timeout.
Maybe not a better look but possibly better legs. Those guys were gasping for air hard after that miss.
Obviously the coach knows his players better than us though. I don’t think there’s really a right or wrong answer here. Just preferences.
Outcome-based armchair quarterbacking
That shot going in would have been amazing.
Everyone was lethargic. If all the Spurs had sprinted down the court and caught minnie flat footed they could have got an even better shot. They got a great one, but why is half the team milling around with 5 seconds left?
I think at least some were expecting a timeout
I’m gonna disagree just because the Spurs are so young. Go for OT at home and the win on the road.
Yup a pressure 3 is never good for a young player but it’s great for a vet.
Reddit losing their mind based on the results and not the opportunity as always. It was a great shot. Everyone called Carlisle a genius when he let Haliburton cook in all of these situations last year. Champagnie had a better shot than any of Haliburton’s. Not sure what a timeout would’ve been able to do there.
Hali would have made that shot 10⁄10 times, that was the difference
Yeah, it’s not a bad call at all. Hit it and win it. Miss and move on.
I would agree if they knew that was the plan. Once they hesitated in the back court, coach should have called a time out.
Wide open 3 game winner >>> 2 and OT against the team outplaying you the whole 4th quarter
Normally I agree. But at home…and the fact the wolves were in MAJOR foul trouble. Julius and Jaden 5 each. Ant was also pretty spent.
If this game was in MN. I can see the no timeout and go for the win 3. Game 1 at home? I feel like you want to call the timeout here and bring it to overtime
Allllmost blew that. That inbound made me ill.
we won and i wanna cry from stress
Wolves basketball at its finest
If you donāt love that you donāt love Minnesota sports
And yet I watch them, sometimes eagerly.
I love Finch, but this is a prime example of the fair criticism he receives. What the FUCK is that inbound play?
Wolves caught a break
Absolutely terrible out of bounds pass.
Ant off da percs
“Ayo why does Donte wear Fiesta colors now, anywho take this”
Send da brain fog
Didn’t block out either for a couple of key plays. A win is a win tho.
These are the type of tough wins a 6 seed has to take thatās for sure. Nothing is guaranteed, the spurs defense is tough
At least he owned up to all of it. The man looked straight up defeated after the win.
and the travel
Lots of goal tends were not called either. Refs missed a lot tonight
Sure, not saying wolves didn’t deserve to win. Spurs had their shot and missed. But they got lucky on that call
Very.
I mean they didn’t get anything out of that possession anyway, so missed call but no cost on that one
Dude, that was all arm. Watch the ādefenseā as he steps through. Thatās a foul
Ant got absolutely hacked on the arm splitting the double team.
IDK why players keep making lazy passes when inbounding the ball.
No one moving. Thats a tough pass to make over 2 long defenders
I see shit like that and just think of how many laps we would have to run at practice back in high school if we ever played so carelessly.
There’s a reason why jingles was designated inbounder for so long
The Finch Special
Finch canāt fucking pass for shit
Wolves are the successors to the Bud era Bucks where they win but they do about 7 of the dumbest things youāve ever seen in the processĀ
First time???
If we get a title from it, it’ll be well worth the frustration
It will be fun for everyone thats forsure
Play random!
Yeah that inbound was the one thing we couldnāt do. Looked gas, no one was moving. Should called a TO.
To be fair Spurs also would have caught a break if they won. Kind of felt like both and neither team deserved this one over the other
NOT EVEN!!!!
What a game!
Seriously⦠that was freaking awesome
This series is gonna be amazing
Spurs ain’t deserve that one anyway. Played bad the whole night.
All three teams were sloppy (+refs).
Was still a fun game to watch.
Wemby is crazy. This was an off game for him. I’m scared to see what’s to come. š
ant playing like this so quickly off an injury is crazy lol props to yall for closing it out
I can tell he’s not 100% yet. But he played hard!
Yeah people arenāt really mentioning this but the guy was 0% from three and I donāt think he made a single bucket that wasnāt a layup or dunk. Someone can correct me but I think thatās the single biggest issue of this game.
I know some of it is Gobert.
But I don’t think Wemby will play that bad again. Some of his shots were good looks that just didn’t go in.
Home team taking a 3 down 2 is crazy
Wide open by our best shooter, you kinda live with that
yeah i donāt understand the hate on the no timeout decision, thatās a great look by your best shooter
Timeout wouldāve let Minny put gobert back in too.
Julian Champagnie shot 29.2% on pull up 3 pointers, let alone a side step. That was an inefficient shot.
champagnie better than devin ?
Statistically yeah but it’s pretty close
Eh not really. You could have had the same shot and a chance to rebound with fucking Wemby as a rebounder for a putback? Why settle for a 33% chance to win at best? Steph fucking Curry only shoots 34% on shots to tie or take the lead under 5 seconds and he’s ranked second all time.
I think itās incredibly unlikely that an ATO play gets you a look *that* wide open
Canāt ask for a more open shot than that
I knew champaigne wpuld be 8⁄10 or hit 3 nothong inbetween we got a series boyyyyyy
I mean itās wide open and like their best shooter. Iām okay with it.
Didnāt really seemed like they realized how quick they needed to move there though
Yea, it was a good shot. He just didnāt make it.
Yeah that’s what confused me, looks like the players were expecting a timeout call there and were caught off guard with the decision to not call one
They went for the kill
With the DPOY, more health and the home crowd that’s fuckin dumb
Modern NBA
Unless it went in then it was a brilliant play
Yeah. you go for the tie at home. I think they should have called a timeout.
The Jimmy Butler, I respect it honestly
That is the widest look imaginable. 9 times out of 10 you take that. Minnesota was fast to transition to the paint
HOLY SHIT YOU GOTTA MAKE THAT Great look.
I mean not really? You don’t shoot 100% in games, especially under that kind of pressure
You must because you win instead of losing
Big if true
He’s been money all season and that was such a perfect look.
It’s a miss and make league, but you gotta make those count.
And his 2 big buckets inside was the reason they had this opportunity.
Heās a great kid he doesnāt have to make that
Lmao what
HEāS A GREAT KID HE DOESNāT HAVE TO MAKE THAT
As good a look as you will get. Wow.
If I could choose any player of ours to take that shot it’d be him. High 3 point percentage last.series.
But just congratulations on the Wolves for.making it come down to a late 3.
Fuck.
Just outplayed us and won the game, all that can really be said.
Crazy how people STILL ask “no time out there??”
You CAN call timeout, but by not doing so you don’t let the defense get set. They got a wide open look from their best shooter. If they made it, no one would be second guessing the time out.
Yeah, people are just over reactionary. You call a timeout and Wolves would be able to sub Gobert back in.
The thing is calling a timeout is never the wrong call.
They practice more set 3ās than scramble end of game 3ās.
It was a good look but tbh I think that an ATO is going to convert at a higher rate because of Wemby. You’re either gonna throw a lob to the only guy who can catch it for a dunk or for an unlockable jump shot. He got a great look at it but I really think the conversion rate is just way higher due to the tall french man
But the wolves could’ve subbed in their own tall DPOY frenchman
I will be putting my money on the taller french man
Someone recently did the stats on calling a timeout with so many seconds left compared to just taking the shot, and the game resulting in a win were practically the same. Not saying the Spurs could have set something up, but you kind of kill the momentum by just calling a timeout.
I’m calling a timeout and giving my best player and possible MVP a chance to be involved in the outcome. 6 seconds is heaps of time to get something.
If they were down 3 I’d understand more
The Wolves should have taken a timeout almost without a doubt imo. Offense looked completely dysfunctional out there in a situation where a bucket close to ices the game.
But I think the Spurs letting it play out was the right call
Thatās a good fucking look man. Phew.
Jesus we escaped this game.
I was so looking forward to this series, this game definitely didnāt disappoint! Ant coming back for game 1 was a huge surprise but now once Ayo comes back theyāre back to almost full strength (still missing Dante). Incredible game and I know itāll continue to be an incredible series šæ
What about OUR series? Is it gonna be half as entertaining as this?
Lucky bastardsā¦. This will be an entertaining series for sure
I wish I could’ve seen this series with Donte and Ayo able to suit up.
what a game man
What a chaotic ending, with the Wolves already having the man advantage on defence for the transition play I thought the Spurs would’ve called a timeout.
That was a great open shot for champagnie, he is 38% from 3s on 6 attempts per game
Yeah but you’re down by 2 not 3. If they take a timeout and run a play you can get a better than 40% look.
Wemby and Fox were 10-31 from field goals, champagnie has been hitting some tough shots for them all season. I aint mad about this shot tbh.
Then they really didn’t have faith in winning in OT
That was about as good a look as you can getĀ
It was 40% to win. You wanted a 60% chance to go to OT? Your math is bad
You’re trusting your offense in transition to be better situated than a defense in transition. Generally speaking, unless it’s a matter of not having personnel you want out there, I prefer coaches who let it play and trust their players over taking a timeout.
Timeout aint gunna get you a better look than that
they got an open look lmao
That’s literally the best type of shot a timeout would give you in the end of game, the fuck are you guys talking about?
We could barely score on them the entire game when their defence was set. Nothing wrong with taking the broken play, had a wide open shot to win but missed. Happens.
RUDY FREAKING GOBERT
What a fantastic game holy shit
anyone asking for a timeout there is highkey a bot repeating generic phrases
if an nba coach could have that shot with that wide open of a look for a final possession to win the game, they’d take that every time
Somehow 2 years passed from that shot leaving his hands to it hitting the rim
Love the no timeout decision. Thats a good shot couldnt get better out of a TO likely.
Not calling the timeout means they gave up the chance for their 7ft6 center getting a rebound and putback. They had a chance to win but they could have had a better chance to win. I get not calling a timeout but as soon as the players hesitated, twice I might add, the spurs should have called a timeout.
Wemby didnt even sprint up for offense or for a rebound, thats how confused they were. Wemby still thought they were going to call a timeout even after the ball got passed again.
Both Minnesota and San Antonio shouldāve called a timeout there. the end of the game management was awful
San Antonio was correct not to call a timeout. They got a wide open look and didn’t let Minnesota put their 4x DPOY back into the game
Wemby looked like he didn’t even know they had to fucking go there lol
People going to complain about no TO but they got a WIDE OPEN 3 from a good shooter. TO isnāt going to get you a much better shot. Like they say āitās a make or miss league.ā
I guess they didn’t want Gobert to come back in
How do you not call a TO
I mean, got a pretty good look out of it
They got a wide open look to win the game what more could you ask for
I mean they got a wide open look. It just didnāt fall.
Itās praised if that shot goes in, which it often does for him
This was a great look in transition, not mad about the decision at all
Seems to be common in the modern NBA. They prefer the players to make a play while the defense isn’t set. It’s a gamble
Great game. Series is going to be tough. Wemby and Castle both should have learned a lot tonight. Hope it results in Wemby finding some offense and Castle putting himself in a position to be in during the clutch - he played great all night and could have made a difference at the end of the game.
Wouldāve been fucking electric if he made that. Great look, too.
You gotta call the timeout there surely??
They got a great look, just didn’t go down
canāt really ask for a better look.
They got a great look?
that was an awesome game, edge of my seat the entire time!
Best of luck to you guys. If this game was any indication weāll be feasting.
Randle won this game by himself lmao
the crowd looks beautiful tbh
Not that guyĀ
That’s how we spelling it now? Lol
Wide open. Dont get the complaints
Got a great look and idiots here saying they needed a time out??
You don’t give the defense time to set up, for this exact reason
Canāt get a better shot than that at the end, timeout or not
Tough loss for our guys. Bright side is it was only a 2 pt game with Wemby shooting terrible and Fox having an absolutely abysmal game.
Couldnāt have asked for a better play, with one of your best 3 point shooters. Unlucky miss.
what about the 8 threes missed by Wemby?
Wemby gone
I was shouting for TO but I guess they did have a good look for a final shot. Just didn’t go in.
That shot by Randle was hilarious, itās a bummer nobody will be able to use it against him now
WHEW
Wtf was Mitch doing this is insane
They got a good look for a three but ofc it didn’t go in and people are trying about no timeout
Spurs couldn’t have asked for a better look to win OR tie the game. This is why y’all ain’t nba coaches.
Not calling timeout has to be one of the most low game IQ decisions I’ve seen by this team
Nah spurs gotta call that timeout.
You literally have an 8ft alien on your team to design ATO plays for
And so many guards/forwards who are great at slashing and cutting
Didnāt need a 3 at the end
To anyone who says they shouldāve called a timeout, they literally got a wide open 3 from one of their best shooters. This is what teams would hope to be able to draw up.
Spurs need to hire Steve Kerr
USE YOUR TIME OUTS COACH CHILD FACE
Man this is probably going to 7 games tbh. Still favor the spurs, the wolves are going run on empty later in the series and edwards won’t be completely healthy
Crazy game 1
