[Lowlight] The sixers successfully employ the smack-a-Mitch strategy as he misses four straight FTs
Genuinely how bro? You get paid to play basketball. How can you not hit free throws?
brother refuses to shoot underhanded
At this point, what does he have to lose? It’s not like he could look any worse
hell, he could make a lot of money on prediction markets betting that he will switch to underhand next year, and then switching to underhand
the reality is we need the manliest player to shoot underhanded, to break the stigma. Who’s got some suggestions, reed sheppard?
Beef Stew shooting underhand free throws would be funny
mean mugging the whole time
Intentionally shooting underhanded so players insult him and he can get into more fights
I nominate Steven Adams
Could stand to learn from one of his new teammates; Sochan shot it one-handed to get better form… and it worked a treat.
His free throw shooting form is hard to look at. No wonder they don’t go in.
It’s different every time
He rolls a dice and his trajectory is decided by that lol
New to the NBA?
I will never, never understand this
Soccer penalty kicks have league averages of 90ish%, and there’s a whole second person actively trying to block you. Teams will mess up the penalty spot, the grass can legally be grown at different lengths or different wetness and you’re running up to the spot
How anybody in the professional leagues is under 80% let alone downright bad at the most fundamental and basic shot of your sport where every factor is the exact same as it always has been is absurd
Tbf penalty kicks are only ever taken by people who are actually good at them. Even in shootouts you’re only using 5⁄11 guys most of the time. Can’t imagine keepers would still convert at 90+% if they had to take them regularly.
If basketball teams got to choose anyone on the floor to take their FTs any time they were fouled league average would be over 85%.
It’s mental!!
He looks like he has no neck.. maybe he can’t look up when shooting FTs?
He is a capitalist. Doesn’t want free handouts.
Hes really bad at the game of basketball
That’s a hilarious sounding strategy Sometimes I just wanna smack a Mitch
Is Wayne Brady gonna have to smack a Mitch?
Exactly!!!
Wayne Brady don’t wanna have to smack a Mitch but I guess Wayne Brady gotta smack a Mitch
Run Mitch! Run for yo life get some help!
Life’s a Mitch then you marry one
smack my Mitch up
why did they stop lol
They took him out of the game
But he’s right there on the bench, just keep smacking him!
Because he got subbed out and when it’s under 2mins you can’t do that or it will be free throws plus possession I think
off ball penalties under 2m are any player to shoot
Intentionally fouling players who don’t have the ball under 2 mins in a quarter is a free throw and the ball
Can’t foul off-ball under 2 minutes in a quarter. Knicks would get 2 shots + possession of the ball
got it. didn’t know the under two mins piece
I think thats wrong. Thats only the case in the 4th quarter
An away-from-the-play foul is illegal contact by the defense (1) in the last two minutes of each period, and last two minutes of any overtime periods, which occurs deliberately
https://official.nba.com/rule-no-4-definitions/#Fouls
You’re right actually lol I looked it up my bad. No idea why they stopped doing it then.
I think Nick was just testing it out. Then the game got out of hand so he stopped. Let’s see if he does it again later on in the series when the game is closer?
at some point you gotta go underhand
It’s crazy that his free throw shooting is likely preventing him from getting a 100 million dollar contract. If he could average like 10 points a game there’s no reason why he wouldn’t get a Nic Claxton type deal.
It’s crazy, just work on your free throws man.
Honestly it’s probably health more than anything cause you can’t really trust him to play full starter minutes for 65+ games every season for a full length of a contract and most teams aren’t likely to dish out 100 mil for someone to come off the bench for 20 mpg
I’m sure he’s tried. I think sometimes that him shooting free throws with his dominant hand must be like what it feels like for me to shoot free throws left handed. Even so, if millions of dollars were at stake I’m pretty sure I could get my lefty FT pretty respectable haha.
What I don’t get is not so much his accuracy, but the arc of his shot. He shoots a line drive, which is basically the most difficult shot to hit consistently. Simple geometry shows that having more arc on your shot gives the ball more room for going into the basket. He really should be trying to shoot with a much better arc on his shot, not like things could get much worse. Look at how Ewing used to shoot them.
You’d think players would work on their FTs
They do tirelessly, it’s a mental thing
Bop a Rob?
Mob a Rob
40% on the season is outrageous
Does anyone know if we’ve ever lost a game where someone does this to us. I feel like everytime ive seen it happen live karma has come back by the end of the night.
Mitch slapped
SMACK MY MITCH UP
Nick Nurse is the Chris Paul of coaches
Smack a Mitch is too good
I think it’s Korean basketball league players that have implemented hitting the small square on the backboard just above the rim to increase the player’s Ft %. And it’s working. These bad shooters could try it, if they don’t wanna do the underhand.
Can someone arrange some paid throws for him to hit
I appreciate you posting the full video
On both sides of the ball refs are they only chance… Fuck this ducks… Knicks in 6 looking generous
I love how mad this makes Knicks fans 🤣
If you’re shooting 40% and I’m your coach, you are no longer allowed to shoot overhand. That’s disgraceful
Guy is getting paid to play this game, how can he not shoot free throws? Gobert is another one as well. Baffling
This guy annoys the fuck out of me. He wouldn’t make his high school basketball team let alone the NBA if he was even 6 inches shorter. How do you get paid tens of millions of dollars and not be able to do the most basic thing in basketball?
His IQ and ft% are the same number
