They need to duck the tax again this upcoming season (which is very doable, without a move like this, while still fielding a competitive team).

They DID avoid the harshest 2nd apron rule THIS YEAR which involves “freezing” 1st round picks 7 years out of over the line in 3 of the past 5 years.

Not sure how the NBA is reaching back to 2022-23 to assess this because the Celtics were well into the tax that season.

Considering how good OKC is, how good the Spurs are becoming with Wemby, can the Celtics still win another ring with the Tatum / Brown pairing ? I’m not sure, so a Tatum / Giannis pairing can make sense for a win now move.

Derrick White, Payton pritchard are for sure candidates…it comes down to either jb or Tatum…Tatum just because he does have potential to risk further injury, but I could see them standing by him the whole way through too.

Don’t we have to stay under the tax for two years that would mean next year also to clear the penalties?

At first I was like, why would Milwaukee want a 30 year old Jaylen Brown? But they don’t have any of their picks and have no incentive to bottom out. The thing is, I could still see it being a 3 team trade because why would they want our picks? They will be terrible. When Tatum came back we won at a 67 win pace with a +10.7 net rating, and now you’re replacing Jaylen with freaking Giannis. That’s a ~70 win +13 net rating team.

So I’m not really sure what the machinations of that trade would be.

I just don’t see any trade that doesn’t get Milwaukee their own picks back from Portland.

Maybe that’s a direct trade to Portland, or an indirect one where Giannis goes to Team B and Team B sends its assets to Portland in return for Milwaukee getting their picks back.

But so many of these hypotheticals don’t really help the Bucks.

Say the Celtics trade Jaylen Brown plus X amount of available firsts for Giannis.

Ok? Now what for Milwaukee? Sit around with a duo of Brown and Turner? kuzma? Waiting for Celtics picks in 2029, 2030? They’re stuck in a worse middle than they are now, getting Portland’s picks in the 20s instead of your own deep in the lottery, unable to trade for another player unless you leverage what you get from Boston for another star to pair with Brown.
