Paolo has his flaws as a player but whenever the Magic needs him most or the game after he puts up a stinker, he always plays up to his full potential as a player. He’s kinda a big game merchant. Whatever he does to get himself in this mindset, he HAS to replicate it

If I’m the Magic, I’m getting an HC who can bring this outta him at least 80% of the season. Not just with motivation/building up habits but scheme as well.

I take back what I said about Banchero, I think it’s the system that’s failing him because he can clearly ball out. There’s time when it looks like they’re running a YMCA offense

God, I wanted to throw up watching the magic offense completely suck at dribbling, passing, and shooting the whole game. Just back up a big dude, put up a shot, and fail to secure offensive boards. Only a few of them felt like they were putting in hustle and being physical, like Suggs and the big Wagner and Bane and of course Banchero. The rest were not cutting into open space, not trying to pick on Duncan, not even running around to make the offense feel more chaotic. I don’t know if it’s bad coaching or bad team construction.

Paolo is the most consistent inconsistent player ever. One game he’s literally Thanos, and then the next he’s selling hard. Such a weird player, but I like him tbh. Never know what you’re going to get with the guy.

Paolo could really use to go somewhere where he is the second or third guy.

He has games like this every once in a while that are nice, but too many others where he’s just a black hole offensively and gets stuck in really bad decisions and shots.

He needs to play with a real point guard that can help create for him and let him focus more on his bread and butter shots, and put as much effort in as possible on defense.

I also sort of think he would do better on a team that plays with some actual pace. Sounds odd to say seeing him play but I think his game actually works a lot better with more openings and space than it does the way the Magic run it.

Give this dude a competent coach and roster. It is painful watching this Magic team’s offense lol

This performance is literal proof box stats are not nearly as useful as impact derived metrics.

He has no fucking clue how to run an offense as a first option. He makes the worst possible reads almost everytime he gets to the paint. Even IF he makes the correct read, it’s a second too late OR he does this awful jump pass that is wildly inaccurate.

Having said that, this Magic team is absolute dogshit team with atrocious spacing. Magic has to completely revamp their roster around him if you want anything consistent from him as a first option.

Jaylen brown is a perfect example of this. He has the same flaws as Paolo in terms of playmaking… but because Celtics have some of the best spacing in the league, Brown’s flaws are mitigated. This is why playing for a good organization goes a long way

Give this guy a competent coach and he will flourish. It’s literally that simple, Mosley coaches an antiquated style of basketball, only so much the players can do in that horrid system.

The Magic need to trade for a playmaker so badly. Someone who can get the ball to Paulo in his spots would unlock a lot of consistency instead of him having to force everything. Davion Mitchell or maybe Jrue Holiday would be realistic trade targets who happen to be good defenders and can playmake at a high enough level to take a load off of Paolo so he can achieve this level of play more often

If you watched Q1 you knew either Paolo was gonna have to drop 50-60 or the Magic were gonna lose. They only kept up because he was hot, and surely enough, as soon as he didn’t shoot for a few minutes in Q2, the Pistons pulled away and never looked back.

Anytime you have a starter down it’s rough, but the Magic offense just looked really dysfunctional and lost. Guys didn’t know when to or not to shoot, and they never got into rhythm for more than a few possessions before Pistons came back with a mini-run of their own. I know everyone’s said a lot about LeBron lately, but even if the Lakers lost to the Rockets you wouldn’t say that they looked lost. That’s real leadership you can’t measure.

Kudos to Pistons. They kept their composure the whole time through this reverse 3-0. Sucks to be Magic. Everyone knows the 60-38 scoreboard in Game 6 will haunt them all summer.

I still have no idea how to feel about Banchero. He’s so inconsistent and it’s his biggest problem. He’ll have amazing games like this but is overall an inefficient scorer which is rough when he’s your best player. If he could put it together the magic would be so much closer to the team they envisioned themselves being. So many flashes of it this series. Pistons aren’t a weak team the magic just played up and exploited their weaknesses (Cade being the only ball handler primarily) to bring the series so close to a win.
