[Highlight] Joel Embiid’s insane block on Jaylen Brown’s dunk attempt
Jaylen Brown is -19 this game. I know +/- is a garbage stat, but this is wild.
I’m genuinely more scared of the Boston bench, they have some dawgs
This has been a pretty consistent theme during Brown’s career believe it or not
Lineups with him on the floor are always not really better than when he’s off the floor
Rutgers Alums are scary
Pritchard, for me, is the reason for the success of the Celtics. Him and White. They just need a scorer
It’s garbage if there’s like 2 or 3 guys who are -19 and -17 and you call the -19 guy the problem. If one guy is -19 and everyone else is around even or plus, he’s the problem. And conversely if one guy is +19 and the rest of the team is even or negative, he’s probably the reason they’re in the game.
He’s -19 and Luka Garza is -10. Everyone else is pretty close to even or positive.
The point of stuff like RAPM and EPM is to do exactly that – take raw on-off data, and then adjust for lineups, to estimate each player’s “true” impact on team net rating. And Jaylen Brown has always looked mediocre by those metrics.
It’s weird. Fans are allowed to use the score of the game to describe a player’s performance, e.g. “Jaylen Brown scores 30 points in a 20 point blowout win!”.
But if you just quote the score of the game while that player played, you are suddenly a spreadsheet watching narc who doesn’t know ball.
-25 now. Sixers should be praying for nothing but Jaylen Brown iso possessions.
That boy is ass
and just sold in the last 3 mins
He doesn’t generate above average offense. He’s at 100 ts+ for his career, which scales with his usage. This has its utility, but if a player can’t score at an above average rate, the opponent doesn’t have to send help, and so his presence on the court (and his mediocre passing) isn’t creating good offense for his teammates either. That’s why he’s firmly a second option
Embiid is pretty good
EMBIID LEGACY GAME
That’s a big block, crowd would have lost its shit if Brown punched that over Embiid of all people
you could see the bench in the background get hyped and then be demoralized after the block. would’ve been an insane momentum swinger.
He’s still got it
Can chokic do this?
Not with his lackluster athleticism. Embiid on no knees is a better defender than Jokic ever was
I don’t watch games let me check his DBPM
BLOCKED BY EMBID
THATS WHAT JOKIC CAN’T DO
damn why Jokic still catching strays lol
[deleted]
just sucking the fun out of this thread, aren’t you?
I knew for sure JB was going to slam it but didnt expect Embiid to go for the block. Fucking amazing block.
Joel Hands Embiid
All pumpkin
Centers being able to protect the rim is pretty valuable
big if true
MY GOAT IS DOMINATING
That was all rim!
Didn’t know he could still do that, incredible play
I call it the rim.
Best blocker in the league (excl. aliens)
Aliens really have a different tier..😂
Odds Jokic would just let that dunk happen?
Amazing how he can have this crazy block and stay on his feet but literally 95% of his shots on offense end with him on the ground.
Jaylen Brown with a mind boggling -19 in a 5 pt game at the half.
Crazy how he can keep his feet after a block but not when he puts up an untouched jumper.
Didn’t even fall down got it that clean
This and the no look pass he just made to Edgecombe. He is the most skilled two-way big when he’s healthy. The rest of the team literally becomes more accurate when he’s in.
Insane to credit him with a block, since Brown jammed the ball into the rim without Embiid touching it
Anybody got replays of this one? I wanna see this in slow-mo and from other angles! :D
Are there no close ups of this?
Upon closer inspection…rimjob

Short either way.
He clearly got part of the ball but good screenshot u got there
But he mainly got rim…the ball was not going in even if Embiid wasn’t there
If Embiid isn’t there Jaylen Brown has an easy dunk
My guy please delete your comments and go have a drink at halftime
I’m drinking some Coke Zero® as I type this comment!
So true, Embiid’s presence clearly didn’t impact the attempt
It for sure did, but it wasn’t an “insane” block !
Damn. Got me thinking, gonna Google top rimjobs caught on camera
Thats how these blocks work lol the impact short of the rim makes the dunk attempt land short, resulting in the rim job.
I would need to see a replay of right before your screenshot to know if that’s actually what happened, im just saying your screenshot doesn’t prove anything
Embiid got 2 fingers on it, it was going to be shorter either way.
Looks like both are true - short either way, but also would’ve been blocked if it wasnt short
