[Highlight] Christian Braun runs away in the paint
I mean, Gobert is right there. This isn’t a Ben Simmons situation…
and not just Gobert. this was Coach Finch’s supersize lineup with 3 bigs
and all 3 bigs were in the paint at that moment
And? He had the jump on them. Should have went up
This is a bad spot to try to finish from as a guard/wing. The big is at the hoop, you have no backboard angle, no baseline angle, no forward momentum.
First option is to jump into the guy to clear him out but he’s practically under the hoop already. It’s an awkward finish and unlikely whistle.
He can attempt a quick jump hook/floater which is going to be a high difficulty shot because he has to go high or its an easy block.
His third option is pound dribble go up strong and dunk it. It’s an easy strip/block but maybe they hit his arm and it’s a foul.
A better scorer takes the escape dribble like he did and maybe looks for a short turn around jumper/step through angle. I’m fine with him giving the ball back to Jokic rather than playing outside his self.
If you don’t have a plan when you leave your feet in an NBA game you’re getting cooked 10⁄10 times. The professional athlete right next to Braun isn’t just going to sit there and let him lay it up because he “has the jump on him”.
Floater
he should have took a shot at minimum. That’s why he was fed with just enough space to do so.
Gobert there, Naz was already coming at him, he just bailed. It’s funny
Randle had him
Paint protector sir Randle? He was like 2-3 steps behind lol
Also not a clean pass by Jokic. You can see Braun doesn’t clearly secure the ball, has to adjust, and by then Gobert has now turned to face him. Doesn’t change those that Braun had looked very unsure of himself offensively out there
Yeah the angle was rough so not a huge Jokic blunder or something, but if the pass were a bit closer to the basket then Braun could have jumped up and done a little floater (or a super athletic player even dunks there).
Just good defense and being close to break it down but it didn’t quite work.
No biggie.
When he caught the ball Rudy had his back turned and Naz was behind Jokic. He couldve shot a short uncontested floater
Just pause the video when you see Braun’s hand touch the ball. Rudy is already halfway turned and the pass is carrying Braun away from the basket. There is no uncontested floater. He could have caught the ball with a pivot and pump hoping to set up a kick out to the corner. He also could have used that dribble to set up a turnaround angle. There is no easy play he missed on this possession though.
Which is a shot one would hope a $125M player has and yet
He’s dunked on him before. Kids messed up mentally from being hurt physically. Or he’s still hurt physically. Was rough to watch.
Yeah he seemed broken. Have to think its a confidence thing. It happens to some guys, but it can be hard to dig out of it
yeah I’ve seen him play pretty fearless before. But he didn’t like what he saw in this moment.
I think that’s the point. Braun did the right thing here, just shows how Minnesota used certain lineups and strategy that Denver had no answer for.
Also, as a Jazz fan, I’ve seen countless players turn and run away from Rudy in the paint. So glad he is finally getting solid support from NBA fans.
Yeah we call it a “nevermind” when players attack, see him waiting for them, then run away. He and Wemby are really the only two that have that gravity, its funny to see it sometimes
It’s wonderful to watch. I got to see it for 6 years. And I’m loving it even more now for you guys.
DEN bench disagrees.
Gobert is smack dab in the restricted area
Rudy wasn’t even facing him when he caught the ball. Sure Rudy influenced Brauns decision but when you have 2 feet in the paint like that you have to try and lay it in or dunk it.
This just tells me CB isn’t confident right now because he absolutely would have tried dunking that before his injury.
But still. And everyone is on jokic.
I laughed aloud when that shit happened last night lol, get ‘neverminds’ as a stat going please, the big Frenchmen need it and deserve it in this league
There’s a French surrender joke in here somewhere
This video needs to be evidence for Rudys HOF case
I mean, Gobert and Reid are right there
Plus it’s not like that pass hits him in stride, it’s behind him away from the basket where he had to extend his right arm to grab the ball. That’s not exactly a catch-and-shoot position. He’d have to either shoot a fadeaway over Gobert or pivot right into Reid to get a shot off.
Resetting and giving the ball back to your 3x MVP was the right move here.
Bench reaction is crazy
Wow the recoil by all of them was visceral
Terrible terrible decision to extend Braun to such a huge deal when the dude is cheeks, and I’ve heard from several people he’s also a douche in real life
We’ll have to lose Peyton Watson and/or Cam Johnson for this fool
Nuggets not good at determining which young talent to extend aside from Jokic.
I feel like it’s a diff series w healthy p watt. oh well
PWatt and a healthy AG, granted Ant and DiVicenzo were also gone too for the Wolves which we still should have beat them. But still, such a huge blow without our defending wings/bigs
Rudy was there I guess could be his excuse, but that’s when you have to head/pass fake and either take the shot, pass to Jones, or pass right back to Joker. Taking it out just to reset is ridiculous 😂
Am I tripping or does Braun not literally give the ball right back to Jokic for a post-up in this video?
Yeah, I realize now I wrote it weirdly… what I meant was he should’ve done one of the first two options because doing that third option is nonsensical
Either Braun would say fuck it take it as aggressive as possible and hope one of Gobert and Reid just whacks you
Or shoot a quick ass floater before anybody could react
CB was bad this series, both sides of the ball.
Move him in the off-season and give his $$ and minute to Watson.
Our overall guard play is not good compared to the competition, especially when you factor in the bench.
It’s gonna cost Denver a few FRPs to move that turd of a contract.
Braun pointing at TJ after hitting his only shot was an underrated highlight last night. Lol what a punk. Arrogant white male mediocrity personified.
Denver paid $125 million for that ROFL
Look at the bench reaction.
Christian Braun’s hesitation was in the back of their mind & when he actually passed instead of going up strong, they all visibly cringed.
He had no easy shot unless you want him to do a step back middie which I’ve never seen him take or a turnaround jumper or he can choose to get out and pass it to the 3x MVP in the post. The pass didn’t lead him directly to an open shot. Or do you want him to shoot a 6 foot floater given how clogged the paint area is?
Pay that man $100 million!
“Gobert was there” Lmao his back is turned and he just landed at the same time that Braun is catching the ball moving towards the rim.
Right decision, poorly executed.
Randle, Reid & Gobert are in the paint. If he looked at the rim and/or Jokic, there is a world where he draws them well enough to find a teammate in the right position. But since he never looks like he’s about to shoot all three defenders can safely check their man and prepare to help.
Jokic threw a bad pass forcing Braun to go after the ball and losing any momentum he had for a possible dunk over Gobert and Reed? Yeah, good luck with that!
Yeah like dude set him up to get his shit blocked lol
This!!! Hahaha
fear Gobert
Man wtf this guy cooks us and then he turns into a pumpkin
I’m livid
Christian “Ben Simmons” Braun
I feel like a better player quickly swings that ball to Jones when Randle pivots into the paint.
murray for morant
Does Gobert have the same gravity on defense as Curry has on offense?
Dragging a defender out with him to get his superstar a 1 on 1
Idk what your point is, his cut was well defended and it made sense to reset
Dude did this shit all year. Fucking drives me crazy. He’s in the perfect position to initiate contact and get a foul call. If Gobert manages to make a good block, fine. But do not bail like that, it’s ridiculous.
Reid and Gobert were there but if Braun went aggressive to the hoop there, I don’t think either of Naz or Rudy could’ve stopped him. When Braun caught the ball, Rudy has his back to him and Naz hadn’t had his feet set yet. Braun could’ve just tossed a push shot there or something — would’ve been a higher percentage shot. Reactions on the Nuggets bench show he made a wrong decision.
Gobert was right in front of him. It was a good decision to do what he did. Now , he took a 3 with 12 seconds left on the shot clock and another with 15 left. Those were not good decisions. Maybe I’m old, but mediocre shooters taking 3 s with double digit time left on the shot clock drives me crazy
This is why good rim protectors are important. Who care that he makes 30 million
you expect him to go off vert 2v1 on rudy gobert and naz reid??? 😂 tf is this post
