By one metric, Knicks-Hawks Game 6 was more lopsided than the biggest blowout in NBA history (Grizzlies 73 point win over Thunder in 2021)
In Thunder Grizzlies 2021, the Thunder ended the game with 79 points. According to the game log (which can be found here), the Grizzlies scored their 80th point with 9:39 left in the 3rd quarter via a three-pointer from Jaren Jackson Jr. Effectively speaking, the last 21:21 of gametime were garbage time because all Grizzlies baskets could have been silently discounted after their 80th point and the outcome would still be a Grizzlies win.
Which brings us to last night’s 2026 Game 6 Hawks-Knicks First Round game. The Hawks finished the game with 89 points. According to the game log (which can be found here), the Knicks scored their 90th point with 10:59 left in the 3rd quarter via a Mikal Bridges mid range jumper. By the same garbage time rules from the first paragraph, there was 22:59 of effective garbage time yesterday.
Therefore, by this one (admittedly) simplistic metric, Knicks-Hawks was more lopsided than Thunder-Grizzlies 2021, the biggest blowout in NBA history by point differential, because there was somehow more effective garbage time.
Just something I thought was interesting
