The Jokic hate is why modern sports talk is so abysmal. Nobody who watches basketball would think this take somehow redefines any of these players legacies. Deep playoff runs have much more to do with luck and timing than anything else

I get it that we’re now shitting on Jokic, but I think the main issue has been his supporting cast.

It’s very easy to beat a team with a single star,  i matter how good he is, because you can just single him out.

Jordan couldn’t do it without proper help, LeBron couldn’t either and Jokic is in the same situation. 

Jokic is one of five MVPs in league history to never win 60 games in a regular season, joining Joel Embiid, Allen Iverson, Hakeem Olajuwon, and Bob Pettit - which may highlight some shortcomings in the regular season as well.

That’s a really dumb criticism. Dirk Nowitzki won 67 games in his MVP year, but because he didn’t win the title that year, that 60+ game win pace is seen as indicative of some fraudulent MVP or some regular season try-hard that can only rack up stats against bottom feeders. Which is the exact same thing you’re trying to insinuate by saying Jokic has more MVPs than conference finals appearances.

If Steph Curry had decided to just coast in the regular season (instead of going all out for the regular season wins record) to preserve energy for the playoffs during his unanimous MVP season, is a 53 win unanimous MVP way worse than a 73 win unanimous MVP?

If CF appearances are more indicative of performing when the stakes are high (instead of stat-padding against mediocre teams), then why does it matter if Jokic has never had a 60 win season? The regular season can’t both matter and not matter at the same time.

This just proves that Embiid’s MVP was fraudulent.
