That is how he’s presenting it. It’s tough without the context before this. It sounds like basically you would expect Minnesota’s injuries to be a much bigger deal, but they did have multiple guys each time step up and replace at least a chunk of that production that Minnesota needed.
Denver had no one that stepped up to cover what Gordon usually does, so he’s proposing that’s a bigger deal. You can agree with that or not, but that’s the perspective. In that sense it’s praise of Gordon and backhanded shade to everyone else on Denver’s roster.

Then there’s Murray reminding us why it took so long for him to ever become an all-star, I think Denver would have traded the performance of just about anyone on the Wolves for his last night. And no one picked up the slack. Jokic should have. Braun should have. Cam, anyone. But no one on Denver looked like they had that dog in them that everyone on the Wolves did. It’s the same reason that the Pacers got to the finals last year- they were absolutely relentless despite relative lack of talent, and no one could keep up except OKC. The players who best represent that spirit on Denver are both injured, and it showed.

Mahoney on Zach Lowe’s pod is some of the best listening for intelligent reasonable takes but with no spice. It’s like just eating toast for breakfast but it’s with farmers market butter and fresh sourdough.

I’ll try to give the opposite view and state the argument that i think was trying to be made, despite the obvious flaws in his argument.
Gordon is entirely vital to the nuggets in the sense that he compliments what they need on defense and offense. Gordon fills a ton of the gaps they have by being the cutter/lob threat, rim protector, secondary big to either post mismatches or someone who screens that isn’t jokic, and can still shoot 3’s and fill in when jokic sits. Not saying he is top ten in the league for those categories but he damn well fills a ton of holes that the team has and is heavily involved in their entire scheme. He is also elevates the team in playoffs as we’ve seen for the past few years. And on top of that, Watson was also missing and a huge part of their core they played all year. Plus the coaching was lacking and team strategy and energy just seemed so off.
It’s a dumb statement to say Gordon being out was more significant than three big players for minnesota but i do think Gordon is the nuggets glue guy and he only played like 2 games and was maybe 50% healthy with zero burst.
Yeah I mean I think it really highlights a coaching issue… Denver built an enormous amount of the game plan, especially defensively on having Gordon & Watson. Missing both of them is tough, because apparently there was no backup plan.
