Somebody earlier this series said Reed was so bad he couldn’t even be played this series when I said he was part of the rockets young core. Just because Ime is too incompetent to use his players correctly doesn’t mean they aren’t good players. I learned that about Eason too these last couple games, he’s just been used poorly all season.
Reed has some big holes and some elite skills. The Rocket dysfunctional offense is not good for him. A lot of the time you have to be an on ball star to play on ball for the Rockets. They have bad spacing, don’t run, and do nothing off ball.
Yeah he’s not perfect, most of the problem is linked to how he’s too small. And he does not benefit from all this iso. He’d be his best as a true SG first combo guard and with guys who actually know how to pick and roll. Maybe if the Rockets get a new coach then itll fix it.
His true role is spark plug off the bench, just like any other player of this archetype. For some reason people thought he’d break the mold - well he didn’t.
He’s an undersized guard that can’t guard anyone. This era of the NBA values long tall guards that can defend. Look at what’s happened to Allstars like Trae Young. Dumped unceremoniously by their teams. There’s still a place for undersized guards, but they’re probably going to come of the bench from now on. Not be the lead guards.
Look at Pritchard before and after Udoka to see how much Udoka sucks
If this team had Mazulla and his staff, we’d be talking differently. Those guys make guys like Baylor Scheirman and Jordan Walsh and Queta competent players. And I bet if Tari Eason goes to a team like that, he would be a great role player

Somebody as in one person? Do you mean an entire group of people like here since the entire draft sub dislikes him. I had to intervene in the Pritchard comment section just to defend Sheppard since he’s literally only the age of a college junior.
Look at some of these takes. Someone said his ceiling is a sixth man, except he already finished top 5 in the sixth man race as a 21 year old. Someone said his ceiling is Eddie House, except his second season is better than any of Eddie House’s seasons in his entire career. Even the Pritchard ceiling comparison doesn’t make sense when you realize at the same age Reed is doing this in the playoffs, Pritchard was playing Oregon State and struggling in college. They either don’t know what a ceiling is or most likely, these people just hate on Reed for no reason.
Doncic was supposed to be high floor low ceiling player because of atheticism.

People are wedded to narratives. One that has emerged is that the Rockets are stupid dumb dumbs for taking Reed over Castle and the San Antonio fanboys will insert this into every single discussion they can. When Castle on this Rockets team would look awful, putting yet another non-shooter on a team full of them.
It was me. I actually was high on him in the regular season, he was also a secret weapon in Fantasy for months. Just had a really bad start in his first playoff games.
