Vassell has been incredible as well. Such a very composed and competitive young core that just want to get better, play the right way, and win.
Vassell has been locked into his role. Great release valve for broken plays or when the offense is out of sorts. His effort shows up on defense and rebounds.
It’s been awesome seeing him fly in for defensive rebounds in this series. I didn’t think he would have a place on this team when they turned it around and became competitive, but he has 100% proven me wrong. He’s really shown his competitive nature this season showing he is willing to do whatever it takes to win.
Him and KJ did a complete 180 from last year to this season, not that they were terrible last year, but if they continued playing to that level they were definitively expendable. They are no longer that. High effort on defense, playing into their roles effectively and efficiently.
Vassell is awesome and has shown flashes of being an elite scorer. Mitch loves to use Vassell on a double screen middy on ATO plays, and it seems to always work.
As a rookie I thought he was a 3pt shot away from developing into an All NBA level player. His shots really started going in after all star and I was like, oh here we go. It’s just gonna take the playoffs for people to realize it.
I still think his 3 point shot is bad but we’ll see a better picture next season

He’s been shooting a better % because he’s been taking mostly catch and shoot 3s instead of off the dribble 3s in the second half of the season. His shot has always looked pretty good, so there’s good reason to believe its a real improvement based on simplifying his shot selection and getting consistent reps at those shots.
That’s really all he needs to keep defenders honest when he’s offball.
I’d say it’s decidedly average now when you factor in his stats from the entire season. He’s already an all star without it, he could be truly great if he can continue to hone it

Castle is always such a sure thing, dependable player. He always plays hard as hell, doesn’t get tired on defence, and stays confident with his shot late in the game even if he’s shot like shit so far.
Being dependable is a super under appreciated ingredient to winning. The kid is just way further ahead in the mentality approach of the game, CP3 was a great grab to help mentor him with dictating pace of the game.
