As an NBA fan since the 90s, watching it develop has been so painful. It really hyper accelerated around in the late 2010s early 2020s. Back in 2014ish and before r/nba was awesome. Almost every post was an actual highlight or discussion. There was still obviously the NBA soap opera stuff but for the most part it was highlights and discussion.

To be fair, I think this is sports more broadly. And, generally, sports hate towards Boston is pretty crazy. Tom Brady was in a lot of ways like Tatum, where he was (at least early on) squeaky-clean, seemed like a good guy, humble, great teammate, no scandal, all the things you want a star player to be. And other team fans just wanted ANY reason to hate the guy. I’ve lived outside of New England for about 20 years now and people would eventually acknowledge “yeah fine but fuck the pats” or similar. Literally it took til 15+ years into his career for people to start with the “… but he IS pretty amazing” caveat.

I’m not saying Tatum is Brady in any way. I’m just saying it’s quite an echo: Celtics fans feel like “hey here’s a great guy to root for and be proud of”, and everyone else is just looking for any reason at all to shit on it.

That’s the thing though right. People can’t separate a sports hate and general hate. 

His defense is the same with his offense as you described: Based on fundamentals and methodological. Great help defender, rotates well, closes driving and passing lanes, box-outs, etc. but never gambles, stays in position. If you are following the ball, you won’t see most of all but effects the game a lot like he did in the finals taking out the lob and easy driving lanes, allowing others play one on defense on the perimeter.

Tatum got surgery at HSS from Doctor O’Malley. They actually mentioned O’Malley on one of the broadcasts yesterday when discussing Tatum and divencenzo.

He’s become a close family friend after my sister’s medical issues years ago and recently did my mom’s foot surgery. Was pretty cool to hear him mentioned on the broadcast; he’s done surgeries for a lengthy list of athletes.

Yep. I had an ankle strain that was bothering me for a few months. I decided I was tired of it and did intense rehab exercises and it was back to feeling normal within a few weeks.

Per insurance, most people only get 26 (1hr sessions) PT visits a year. Then it’s a fight to get anymore. Ask me how I know.

I ruptured my Achilles 3-4 years ago, never went to PT, worst mistake I’ve ever made in my life, the last 2 years I got back into working out and have been stretching and working out my Achilles, a lot of the soreness/stiffness has went away, the chronic pain has also lessened, but if I put too much strain on it or stand too much 12-14 hours it’ll come back in spurts

Yeah it’s widely believed that he had the fastest time-to-table in history for an achilles tear. Not a doctor and talking out of my ass, but it seems like something that could be a differentiator in his recovery time.

I had my Achilles surgery at HSS the same day as Tatum (different surgeon), except I had ruptured it 7 days prior. From what doctors told me, having surgery immediately doesn’t make much of a difference. In those 7 days I was worried about moving my ankle, but doc said it doesn’t matter because the tendon is already completely severed.

Surgery he got is pretty basic too (compared to Aaron Rodgers for example). They just sew the ends of the tendon together. Recovery is 99% PT

Also like we gotta like go to work and handle shit. Recovering from that injury is what he’s getting paid to do.
