The blueprint for beating the Nuggets has always been putting players around Jokic in a cage. Wolves are one of the few teams in the league who can do that consistently.

Jokic can have 40pts with 12ast when his supporting cast runs freely. If you lock them up you take away his passing and in turn his easier looks and many paths to the basket.

So yeah it’s not his fault his 2nd best player can’t get around your defenders and create mismatches. Sometimes the defense is just too good and Minnesota deserves all the credit so far, this has very little to do with Jokic’s personal ability.

Officiating is so cooked in general. I get that different refs have different tolerance for foil calls but that difference should be still relatively minor especially come to the playoff but my god one game you have players getting called when they touched a skin cell then next you have players getting mauled on and off the ball repeatedly and not get one. I know we all just saw Jokic play a horrible game but let’s try not to be too affected by recency bias. Jokic is top 3 over Luka because he lead the league in both rebounds and assists which has never been done before while also being 8th in points and having better efficiency. Luka lead the league in scoring because he had the most field goal attempts, 3 point attempts and free throw attempts per game but that doesn’t make him more valuable.

I hate this whole “lead in rebounds and assists never done before” narrative. Of COURSE it hasn’t been done before, because most assists throughout history haven’t come from a rebounding heavy position. It’s definitely impressive, but it kinda misleads through a lack of context about the stats.

It’s like saying he’s the most efficient 2pt shooter that also shoots high volume 3’s. Like yeah probably because he’s one of like 10 people ever that plays both around the rim consistently for high percentage shots and also actually shoots 3s. Obviously thats an example that undermines the stats he got a little, but you get my point.

Also, this game shows how that rebounding stat is also kinda misleading without context. He gets a lot MORE rebounds because he is consistently around the rim, but never really contests anything so he’s never in the air or flying away from the rim to contest shots.

He just stands there under the basket and lets the person shoot and then if they miss he turns around and grabs the rebound since he is still standing right under the basket. Maybe if he was actually contesting shots and jumping instead of standing under the rim, he wouldn’t be able to get as many rebounds as he does.

I’m not saying he’s a terrible player or anything, nor am I saying ALL his stats are made-up or stat-padding, but it is something that just looking at his stats doesn’t tell you.
