Kuminga is Playable
21 points on 9⁄14 shooting. Great defensive play. Hustle all over the place. In a huge playoff game.
Can we safely say he’s playable now?
Kuminga has been big-time for the hawks, their roster is really gelling at the right time!
You can tell he just wanted a shot. He’s been fully commuted and a great teammate. Gave a lot of heart
Kuminga is the carpool mvp
He is always playable. He just doesn’t have the room to make mistakes when in the Warriors. How is a player able to play free when the coach is gonna yank you or DNP for making mistakes
idk, wouldn’t want to screw up their elite system that catapulted them to a top 10 seed lmao
What you just said is what I’ve been telling the delusional Warriors fans for 3 seasons. They’re not playing some elite basketball where every mistake is unacceptable. Kuminga wasn’t even making more mistakes than the veterans let alone the other young guys on the team. Meanwhile I had to sit through Klay chucking selfish shots all season and Podziemski with the longest leash, while Draymond was a complete negative on offense (and often defense). There was no stat that showed Kuminga was a net negative on the floor either, he had uplifting net rating with Curry lineups. Butler had to publicly say he was compatible with JK but Steve Kerr still refused to give him 30 minutes in the Timberwolves playoff series when no one could get a bucket.
Steve Kerr has completely exposed himself over the years… anyone that watched him coach FIBA and the Olympics should have their eyebrows raised. That dynasty really was 90% Steph Curry.
yeah, these “didn’t fit the system” comments I’ve seen a lot would make you think they were like competing for a championship or something. you guys didn’t even make the playoffs, and can’t even blame kuminga for that cause he got so many DNPs.
defending the “system” would only make sense of you guys if you guys actually had a chance to do anything in the postseason, which they clearly didnt even before the play in L. let the 23 year old make some mistakes, isn’t like you guys were competing anyways
Ya bro Kuminga was definitely the answer to their issues, very YouTube comment section of you
and you’re telling me a 23 year old that played like that in a playoff game can’t find minutes on a 10 seed because of their “system”?
These Warriors fans aren’t actually trying to talk basketball. They are trying to defend their heroes. It’s pointless. They are just going to defend Kerr no matter what.
He did find minutes. He was shit most of the time plus he made the team worse.
It’s funny because he plays for a coach that is literally DNPing last years first overall pick.
tbf, 2021 was a pretty good class, 2025 was pretty shit. Not taking alex sarr makes sense, they went for position over talent and it backfired
Risacher isn’t that bad. He just needs to improve his mentality, rebounding, defense, inside finishing, passing, ball handling, and shot creation and he’ll be a solid player.
me too, then I can make the nba
Well no, Risacher is kinda decent at spot up shooting. Do that, and be 6’10”.
same i’m 6’2 tho
Definitely agree he’ll be a solid player think he’s just a little raw for what the hawks need this playoffs
Asa Newell is raw. Risacher just flat out sucks.
Gotta be one of the worst drafts in modern history, straight bums up and down that list. Even the “steals” like Dalton Knecht turned out worse than Bronny and the best player didnt start a single game this year (unless I’m forgetting someone who’s turned out better than Castle, I’d take him over Clingan rn but ik some ppl are super high on him)
He’s not as good as Kuminga tho
That first overall pick has been playing horrible though.
Paolo and Kuminga being playoff risers after an entire season of hate is the most hilarious thing ever
TBH since he’s been in ATL we’ve literally been loving him. He brought so much physicality to a team in need of it. He hustles his ass off. He’s dropped several games this year like this for us.
Pablo got spanked yesterday bubs
Paolo is averaging fewer points on worse efficiency than in the regular season lol
who hated kuminga
I’ve seen warriors fans foaming at the mouth waiting to drag him on Twitter when he has a bad game.
cumminginthenile, the most pathetic JK hater
see, twitter and redditors are majority idiots or bandwagons. They don’t know how many bad picks we’ve had. He seemed different, wanted to improve
Kuminga definitely has to feel vindicated now. Played meaningful playoff basketball while his former team’s season is over.
I know that one Kuminga hater throwing shit at the screen for sure
Steve kerr?
There was one guy in the sub that kept posting his stats when he did poorly after the trade lol.
Paging u/CummingInTheNile .. please report to the thread
CummingInTheNile has some of the most frustrating and insufferable takes on NBA reddit, which is really saying something
That guy’s a clown, I’ve been rage baiting when I cared to visit reddit once every few months or so and he is always putting out the same regarded takes
After Butler got hurt, Kerr couldn’t find some mins for him? Come on man warriors fumbled hard…
Even if you’ve determined he’s not a fit you gotta at least up his trade value
They did play him. Kuminga also got hurt 2 games after the Butler injury
This supports my anti-Steve agenda, so I concur
Must be frustrating as a Celtics fan, if only Kerr’s coaching dementia had kicked in a few months earlier you guys would have another chip. I have trouble convincing myself that the current Kerr is the same guy who put on the 22 coaching master class.
From what I saw, he only had two passes for the game, which has always been his biggest issue. Every time he gets the ball he shoots.
It worked this game, but it’s also the reason he is unplayable when his shot isn’t falling.
He for sure works as a bench scorer but he’s still got some developing to do before he’s a guy you want to start in the playoffs.
Also his defence was good this game (and it should be, he’s an great athlete with the size and speed to guard just about anyone) but I have seen him have many many extremely poor defensive games.
He’s still a work in progress but it’s nice to see him have a great game in the playoffs again.
I guess they’ll just have to accept that he’s not a passing forward, like many other forwards in the league. Usually that’s what your point guard does.
We’ll just have to hope he can continue to improve his shot past the age of 23.
The Hawks let him be himself while Kerr wanted him to fit into their playstyle
/thread
No matter how many good things Kuminga did, they didn’t matter to Kerr unless those good things fit the narrow role Kerr wanted him to play in.
Always has been. Our sub will deny it til the very end tho
We knew this last year against the timberwolves but steve kerr convinced people he couldn’t help but somehow Podz could. Its clear kerr had a personal issue with him
Sometimes maybe good sometimes maybe shit.
Waiting for the Warriors flair to post his statline. Or do they not do that anymore?
This statline (and overall performance in general) doesn’t fit his narrative so he won’t post it
This gotta be Kerr rage bait
This is showing that Kuminga was in the right the whole time when he was with the warriors.
Got hate for no reason. Kerr should get hate for this
he played well with several moments where he lost/messed up his dribble and the man is a black hole, like the ball touches his hands and it will be a shot, it’s wild - both of which I’m pretty sure were some of his biggest issues with the warriors - but on the hawks he can use his athleticism, effort and size more freely, especially on defense
the capable defense was probably most surprising, good job hawks good job jk!
Kerr punching the air
That hustle play was awesome. Just went all out to seal the game
I think he already proved that last postseason (to many) when he was the Warriors best player in the 2nd round.
Became thee 6th man at the right time
Bro he was beyond playable he was pushing good players on the Hawks to the bench during clutch time
NBA champion Jonathan kuminga
Kerr plays favorites. As seen by his unwavering support for donkey breath. Unleash Kuminga.
Warriors punching the air
The idea that he wasn’t was driven by low-lights and a Kerr narrative. You can see with your own two eyes he could play, and that he has a lot of potential. The issue is Golden State was more interested in trying to win now with Steph, instead of building a team identity that could truly utilize Kuminga.
Yes Kuminga makes bone headed plays, but he has a hustle and drive thats hard to teach. You live with his lapses because you know his strengths can outweigh those.
Idk maybe I’m wrong, Golden State Fans, what do you guys think?
I agree. Sadly Kerr never tried to adapt his system with JK. Kerr kept trying to fit a square peg into round holes.
I agree. I also think a lot of commenters here are prisoners of the moment and are forgetting the Kuminga experience of the last two months (or even game 1), which was pretty typical—exciting and productive, then injured and unavailable, then sporadic defense and poor shooting, repeat… I do think with consistent playing time in Atlanta’s system (or lack thereof), he’ll be a decent contributor.
Happy to see him thrive!
Been playable
And Steve Kerr should’ve been fired 2 years ago! Think what GSW would be like if they gave Kuminga a legitimate chance to play alongside Jimminy Buckets!
Kuminga is an inconsistent player. He was on the Warriors and he has been on the Hawks so far. Let’s see him keep it up. The break out isn’t quite here yet.
But he did deserve more of a shot on the Warriors. They are perpetual play in fodder and Kerr is saying he deserves DNP-CPs? Come on.
It was organizational malpractice all around, from the decision to draft him to Kerr’s management of him.
He had two good games, let’s not get carried away. He was hot and cold on the Warriors too.
Steve Kerr is a basketball terrorist and I say this as a warriors fan who loves Steve for what he’s done for us but he’s washed now
No minutes for All-NBA Tatum in the Olympics. Steve is dubious on so many counts, but most of all the sticking up for draymond for his sucker punching Poole.
It’s crazy because JT is an all around 2 way player. Hes on of the players you can insert into any team lineup seamlessly
Let me coach Steph klay KD igoudala and draymond. I can win you back to back titles
Doc?
Well he’d lead them to a 3-1 lead at least
Fairs bro
You can be my assistant coach heck injuries aside we can even 3peat
Kuminga is a top 10 athlete in the league (me maybe even top 5 with the Thompson brothers) and has been here for 5 years.
I HOPE the dude is playable
No one ever argued he was unplayable lmao not even the most hating Warriors fans said he was “unplayable”
I didnt watch him that much on Warriors but whenever i did he was playing great for them. Really dont understand Warriors not building with him
He’s always been playable. Just a coaching issue
It’s one game.
2 playoff games, he’s been awesome
It’s absolutely been more than one game that JK has balled out when called on by Quinn
Steve Kerr is a fucking bum. He’s been washed since 2023.
22 was a coaching master class but your absolutely correct, he’s been shit ever since.
Kerr about to retire over this and this only
Steve kerr disagrees
