I feel like there was an insane amount of brain drain that happened to the Grizzlies. Losing guys like Kyle Anderson, Melton, Steven Adams, and Dillon Brooks actually cost them. I feel like they had such a stacked supporting cast of guys really good at a number of things but just kept thinking “we have someone else in the development pipeline” which is true, but I think they kept thinking as long as they keep building around the main wheels, it’ll work out. Too bad JJJ doesn’t seem to be that type of leader and Ja is injured/mental trainwreck.

I think there were a lot of reasons for the Grizzlies downfall that happened all at once but agree, it’s crazy to blame Jenkins. I don’t really think the new coach is at fault either tbf, I’m not seeing the genius vision the Grizzlies FO did but like we’ve all said, the team imploded and collapsed the second he got them.

Outside the added strain of the Ja incidents, the Grizzlies fell apart the same reason the Rockets are falling apart right now, and the same reason the Magic will fall apart soon.

A lot of rebuilding teams mistake the extra cap space you get from having half you core on rookie scale contracts as a talent surplus. They either have to let some key role players go when it comes time to pay the young’uns, or are too confident about their ability to keep pulling contributors up from late in the draft and refuse to pay the 4th-6th man kinda guys when it comes to rookie extensions. The result is mediocrity, disillusionment, and back to another rebuild.

The Pacers may suffer from this next season too, but it depends on what they get in this year’s draft and how much that rookie can contribute immediately.

I mean doing wonders is a stretch for the last hospital season. He had guys playing hard in the second half of the season, but a lot of those guys were end of bench/two way/10 day guys who didn’t need more motivation than actually giving them minutes. The first half of the season it was Marcus Smart yelling at the bench during timeouts while TJ furrowed his brow. The whole reason we were able to pull a late tank was because we still had no half court offense and even with a healthy Bane and Jaren we started the season like 6-18 or something that was way below expectations.

Actually a pretty interesting story. He took some time off to focus on family and himself. I think he started cycling and has been doing a lot of endurance training based off his Instagram. He even has an altitude tent he sleeps in a couple nights a week. He’s not just dabbling, he seems really committed.
