On a serious note, the Suns had a much better than expected season. They were fun. They play hard. Ott seems like heāll be a great coach. But the reality is that Booker is the only starter for Phoenix who would start on OKC..and Iām really only confident that Brooks would be in the rotation. You just canāt win a series like that..especially given OKC is incredibly deep too.

No one probably knows this but Barkleyās 1993 Suns were down 0-2 to the Lakers, losing both games at home, in a best of 5 first round and needed a really difficult shot by Dan Majerle (which doesnāt go in most of the time due to the difficulty) to win that series 3-2.Ā
That was Barkleyās MVP season, where the Suns had the best record in the league, and eventually you know it as the year they lost to the Bulls in the Finals. Had the post Magic Lakers won that year, that would be the equivalent of the Suns upsetting the league best, MVP led Thunder this year.

Yes to add some context, Kevin Johnson was a little injured going into that series but he managed to recover fully by the end. Otherwise Barkley carried that team that round. With that said, KJ gets overlooked a lot but Barkley definitely needed him since he was a very good player in his own right.Ā
The big issue was Dan Marjele struggled a lot. Marjele was a good player, a multiple time All Star, but he had trouble against Worthy until of course he made that big time jumper to send game 5 into overtime when the Suns were down 2 with under 15 seconds to go. So all was forgotten there when he made that and then won in overtime.
AC Green, who matched up against Barkley a lot, also had a good series so I wouldnāt say Barkleyās defense was that good but offensively, he was one of the original PF offensive hubs, as his passing and ball handling was super underrated. People think of Barkley as just a post only player but he had good perimeter skills in the open court, very unique for that era.Ā

If you could either A. Hone in Dillion Brooks and stop him from taking 22 shots, OR . Have Dillion Brooks be more efficient, then you atleast would have a punchers chance. But without addressing that issue, they will falter oncemore.

Guarding scoring guards/wings has always been a team effort. Despite what they say.
They didn’t do as much help defense unlike today. But still, like… bigs defended the paint against anyone no different from today. They weren’t only blocking shots from the other Center.
Iāve seen better suns teams get blown out in bigger games. Kind of par for the course at this point.

I thought Charles would bring up the Sixers’ big comeback win against Boston in Game 2 but they ended up wasting time on a lot of Hawks calls joking around. I mean I love the show but Charles had to be happy with the Sixers’ game 2.
