Is Magic really a top 2 young player of all time? He didn’t win his first MVP until year 8 while LeBron won 2 in his first 7 years, Bird who came in the league at the same time had already won 3, and someone like Kareem won MVP #5 in year 8. Sure Magic won the finals early in his career, but he had multiple hall of fame teammates including Kareem who was the best player in the world at the time

Look into why he got that FMVP. I recently did and was quite surprised. There’s lots of articles about it. Don’t get me wrong, he’s one of the greatest but the narrative awards (MVP, DPOY, FMVP etc.) really do paint a bullshit picture sometimes.

I don’t think Magic is a top-2 “young” player ever. He did finish better than 8th for MVP or have a first-team All-NBA until his 4th season at 23. Obviously he won the championship as a rookie and was finals MVP, but that team was led by MVP Kareem and Magic’s overall play was lower than both Luka and Shaq at 20 (as well as LeBron, of course.)

Magic top-5 at age 20 though. Bron unquestionably #1 from ages 18-22.

Edit: Wilt and Kareem probably would have been dominant at 20 but debuted later. Wilt debuted in college at 17 and averaged ³⁰⁄₁₉ leading his team to the #2 overall ranking in the country.

Kareem was probably the best basketball player in the world even in college. He was immediately the best player in the NBA as a rookie after winning 3 straight NCAA titles and 3 straight player of the year awards.

This has already been talked about many times before.

IIRC the odds Bron would have gotten a 27/7/7 game in his career thus far was 19% and so the odds he would not have one by now was 81%. But that’s talking about the chance of it factoring in every game he’s ever played, (like, what is the odds out of 1600 games+ that one never happens).
