Reporter: “You’ve won a lot, you’ve lost a lot of playoff games” Tatum: “I lost a lot?”
73-49
Bum
49 is a lot of losses to be fair
Right. It’s like saying the Patriots have lost a lot. Need to be in the playoffs to lose
In baseball, Jamie Moyer has the record for most allowed home runs which sounds really bad until you realize that at some point collecting “bad” stats is a longevity badge of honor in these cutthroat leagues
I’ll never forget Moneyball (the book) describing Moyer’s pitch speeds: Slow, slower, and slowest.
yea moyer pitched in 4 different decades lol. He was on my team in the tail end of that (phillies)
LeBron no.1 with career turnovers and missed FGs (if not already)
On the surface for sure. Dig a bit deeper and it’s quite different. A Superbowl winning team has 0 playoff losses. An NBA championship team could potentially have 12 losses
3-0 is a much better ratio than 16-12 (57%). So the fact that his playoff winning percentage of 59%% (73-49) is better than the baseline for winning a championship is pretty nuts imo
This guy maths
His win % is great regardless, but let’s not dismiss the benefits of spending your career in the east on this.
Lame take he can’t control the competition around him he can only beat who’s in front of him that’s like saying 2016 doesn’t count because bron came out the east
He is a gentlemens’ sweep away from having a 50 win pace in the playoffs.
yall kill me with this “win pace” metric. how does this apply to the playoffs? why not just say win percentage?
edit; i know what win pace means. i just dont see the point in saying “win pace” in this scenario when it refers to the regular season and the playoffs is a whole different thing
Because if you’re on a 50 win pace for the regular season, it’s a solid season. Now, if you’re on that same pace against only the top half teams (in the playoffs), then it’s more impressive.
i get what he meant js not denying that its impressive. just see people use this term a lot and it doesnt apply to the playoffs since there isnt 82 games anyway. if he said tatum wins 67% of his playoff games thatd be equally impressive.
Top 1% commenter, bottom 1% thinker. Here, I’ll help you.
A 50 win season in the regular season is generally considered a good season (e.g. Tim Duncan never having fewer than 50 wins in an 82 game season is often used to give credence to his greatness). In the regular season, teams do not strictly play against winning teams. In the playoffs, teams generally play only against winning teams. In Tatum’s case, with the exception of the 2023 Hawks and 2025 Magic (both 41-41 teams), he has only played against winning teams in the playoffs. If he has a near 50 win pace in the playoffs, playing against winning teams, saying he has lost a lot is a misleading/disingenuous statement.
throwing insults because someone asked a question. obviously youre projecting but thats fine.
thanks for the explanation i guess, though youre not saying anything i dont already know. i know its impressive and he hasnt lost a lot. i just dont see the point in saying 50 win pace, you could just say .671 win percentage and it would make the same point
Goddamn i didn’t realize his playoff record was that good until seeing it written out like that
Only current players ahead of him are steph&Co I think
From what I can find LeBron is also ahead.
You got proof about this Lebron dude?
I’ve only seen him win 2 games.
Look at this guy, watching games
I think he’s the oldest rookie in the league but not sure.
186-108 lol
Just looking at players with at least 50 wins, 8 of the 23 have a better win% so he’s doing fine but it’s not wild.
Curry, Dray, Klay, Looney, LeBron, Kyrie, Love, and Kawhi.
Yes, but all those records come from essentially just 2 separate teams (plus Kawhi) l. So, Tatum has fourth best as the primary guy only behind guys that have won 4, 4, and 2 championships each. That’s not “fine”.
I wasn’t talking about who was a primary option or who won championships so changing the subject and implying I was calling Tatum fine as a player is completely different.
I mean saying being 8th is “fine but not wild” is diminishing his accomplishment by an absurd degree. Also not contextualizing 8th is just silly.
I mean his rookie year you guys went to the ECF. He’s made the playoffs every year of his career and only lost a first round series once.
Dawg your rosters have been stacked since he’s been playing. He’s a great player, but he’s also always had an amazing supporting cast
Literally what would happen if Melo was drafted by the Pistons in 03 and had his ego fixed.
I still think of him as pretty young for some reason so 120+ games is a little jarring too
being in the east sure is good for playoff records if you’re a good player or on a good team.
makes embiid/giannis more embarrassing for all time greats
Technically that’s more playoff losses than two NBA franchises (Hornets and Pelicans).
Hey…fuck off 👌
Damn. Same same. But different.
Tbf 49 losses is alot of losses lol alot of wins but alot of losses, like the reporter mentioned…..
Him and Shai have the same win percentage but Tatum has played in 3x as many games lmfaoo
Tatum farming that Eastern conference for wins
“What are they gonna say now? What are they gonna say now?!”
Crazy how many playoff games he’s already played
While thats a good win percentage, he has lost a lot. Many Celtic teams underperformed their talent level before their Chip. It’s not a diss to say the objective truth that he has lost a lot.
Ehh it implies he has lost more than he has won which isn’t true, it’s like saying to LeBron you have won a lot of playoff games but no one has lost more games then you…
That’s a lot of losses! Reporter said nothing about ratio.
A lot of people forget that outside of one series where LeBron beat them and one year where the refs carried them through a hospital east, they’ve lost a ton early on
I guess in the sense that he’s played in a lot.
Kind of like college hockeys all time wins leader as a coach also holds the all time loss record
Cy Young was right there and u went with college hockey lmao
Boston gonna Boston
Local football league’s most matches coached or won is here led by mediocre lower tier coaches who are or were good enough to coach at this level for several decaes, but none of them good enough to lead teams to trophies, because those coaches get inevitably poached by better leagues.
All time longevity based stats can be weird.
lol the all time college hockey wins and losses coach also notched 5 nattys including one at Bowling Green which is kind of unheard of in modern times. But yeah I get your point
I would reckon the NHL isn’t poaching college coaches, like the NFL or NBA aren’t doing, so even the best coaches tend to stay in college.
As soon as in my country football coaches begin to win shit or overperform, they end up abroad or the NT. Our greatest coaches all have significant stretches beyond. Doesn’t even matter which modern-ish era, as there isn’t a significant change in played matches from season to season since the mid 50s.
Which is what I think the journalist was going for
LeBron James has 108 playoff losses.
He’s so handsome. Fuck Boston.
Obligatory lmao
Damn that hater gotta be so happy today since he’s a Sixers fan too lmao
Lil fun fact thrown in there
where’s mrsunsfan when you need him
He is casting PGL wallachia
Lmao. didnt expect Sunsfan to be mentioned here, casting with Synderman on a Playoff game would be a wild crossover.
Is this what sunsfan warned us about?
They’ll just say things that don’t mean anything unfortunately.
Speaking of wild crossovers
who is he
The undisputed GOAT
“Me Paul”
u bum
If you’re a great scorer you’re gonna take a lot of shots. You’re going to miss a lot, too.
Big if true
49 is a lot. Doesn’t mean he is losing all those series but nothing wrong with saying 49 is a lot of games.
“Google me”
Jason “Doc” Tatum
49 is a decent amount of L’s
That’s like saying LeBron sucks cause he’s lost 100 playoff games.
No its like saying Lebron lost a lot of games, which is true
You added the word suck.
You can easily say he has won a lot and lost a lot.
Why you gotta add “suck” to mske your boy a victim?
Ehh by using same description “a lot” to describe both the wins and the loses it implies they are equal which they are not, valid push back by JT.
I think the media expects the athletes to be devastated after each loss. They are focused. This is one game and they still have work to do. This game is forgotten about after the shower. If this was an elimination game then ofc they would be shook.
How many games you win? A lot
How many games you lost? A lot
That implies they are the same no?? How many have you won, a lot how many have you lost, some
Bro so handsome
If you win more than you lost that’s all that counts
Damn why are some people acting like the reporter was trying to personally insult him or something. This is just a regular phrase/question to ask after a loss. The point is that even if you win often in the playoffs you’re inevitably also going to have to recover from a lot of losses.
I mean his Celtics did lose in the finals to the least talented Warriors roster that won a championship
Ah yes the old “in the grand scheme of things” counterpoint 🤣
Go text Kobe about it you bitch.
Damn right this fucken clown acts like using the same convo as Kobe and curry etc far fucking from it. Eat shit
If you get this mad at a answer during a press conference you need serious help.
Not mad at all. Just saying this fucker is useless. Where was he when curry destroyed them at home to win the championship?? Tatum does not show up in the finials ever.
He averages 22/7/7 in the finals. Which is 2 points less than his career average. So please explain how that’s “useless”
Did they win ?
That’s a different conversation. You said he didn’t show up I gave you proof that that’s wrong so please explain. Also yes they won the year after.
Okc will steamroll them next. Fuck Tatum
Yes?
Fuck Celtics . The whole team couldn’t stop Curry. Point to that ring finger Steph in MSG Fuck Boston
Go outside in touch grass.
Hahaha Boston will not win another championship while Tatum is playing. EAD
Damn dude literally all you do is hate.
Do you have nothing good going on in your life or something?
Team led by 23 year old manages to get to the finals (through one of the hardest possible roads that year), and loses a tough 6-game series to an all-time great. Wow so surprising. No way they’ll ever come back to win one
How’s that any different to the warriors v cavs ?? Yes he can score points but he ain’t a generational talent top 75 player. Overrated
