Shohei Ohtani extends his on base streak to 53 games with an infield single
Plot armour too strong
I like how you spelt armour
Username checks out with the spelling choice
What the hell is that supposed to mean
Color vs Colour, armor vs armour , flavor vs flavour, labor vs labour and so on lol. USA vs UK spelling basically.
Yeah I get that, I was joking because we both have scott in our usernames and he mentioned usernames
Real. He’s being clutch for his streak. Like why is he only hitting in last AB? Lols
Hes been pretty mid by his standards but still does the absolute minimum to continue the streak. Nuts honestly
Yeah, he’s Def in a slump. Only bright side, he’s doing pretty good as a pitcher.
Crazy that a 145 wRC+ is a slump for him
It’s not all about stats. It’s about the eye test as well. He’s not doing great w hitting w risp. RBI down. HR down. There’s been a few clutch moments he is coming up empty.
It’s still early in the season but he looks below avg to his usual self.
I was agreeing with you, he’s definitely hitting below his usual level :) just marveling that most average players would kill to be as good as slumping Ohtani
I mean Isnt Early Ohtani usually this tho? He usually heats up in June.
I remember 2024 Phillies. Were hot all yr until the end and flamed out in the playoffs. I rather Ohtani and the Dodgers be cold now and heat up right before the playoffs.
Early Julio agrees! It happens to the best of us 😅
It is all about stats. He has a career 156 wRC+ and in the past 3 years it’s been 180, 180, 172. His hitting being down 15-20% from the past 3 years sounds about right to me.
But it’s a stat with a +
None of those stats except HR are real
It reminds me of his 50⁄50 year, where he had a streak where he wasn’t hitting great but was still getting homeruns every couple of games to keep his pace. Still nice to see the streak alive tho.
Theses streaks have been kind of funny because they both came when he was playing relatively below his standards both as a hitter and a pitcher, especially factoring in the playoffs and WBC.
Keeping a 50+ game on base streak alive through a slump is some annoyingly impressive Ohtani shit
It’s bizarre that this streak is coinciding with a stretch of frankly unimpressive hitting by Ohtani standards. Dude is just finding ways to get on base every game even though his timing seems off.
Hes actually been looking so bad at the plate but just finding all kinds of bullshit to extend this lol
He was cooking down the line lol. He’ll pretend like the streak doesn’t matter but he cares a lot I bet
Kruk and Kuip were talking about it. He gets accolades for his hitting and pitching but sometimes you forget the dude can fly.
Especially since he hasn’t been as active on the bases since he came back to pitching.
I mean we’re only a couple years from his 50⁄50 season
2 run game and getting on-base brings tying game to plate. Supposed to hustle your ass off there.
He has been in a slump for awhile but somehow is keeping the on base streak. Wild
Still can’t believe how fast the guy is.
Was 1⁄6 w 5k.
He’s now 2⁄7 vs Miller.
Black magic
Wild that this is a “slump”.
GOAT STREAKK
I just don’t think I can fathom how unreal he is.
Seems fishy.
His lacking the feels in both power and angle after the HBP with Mets. He needs to break his routine once again. I think the HR slump will be resolved by him doing an on-field batting practice; he hits about 5 HRs after doing so like the postseason and during his first HRs this year. But even for now, the streak watch is sort of fun and thrilling. Amazing how he is able to attract attention and do mini-shotime while in his perceived ‘slow start’, which is actually his usual form in April based on previous years’ stats.
For a guy that large, he sure runs crazy fast. Can get on base in so many ways
Not watching, can someone confirm that he didn’t tweak something? Looks like he was walking gingerly a bit.
Got hit during the Mets series
But he’s ok from that run to first right? Looked like he might have landed potentially awkward.
Edit for clarity: wasn’t injured on the play, the run/reaction might be from recovery or just feeling like a bad day 🤷♂️
Can’t even get it to the outfield what a scrub /s
This guy is so fast.
He’s kinda been ass. Gonna start him as a pitcher tomorrow in fantasy
At least something was done
Am starting to think this guy might be pretty good.
Bro’s been struggling at the plate for a bit but somehow gets on base every game. Singles, errors, catcher’s interference. This time he just brute forced it with his speed.
Errors don’t count toward getting on base. I’m not sure whether catcher’s interference does.
also doesn’t count because the on-base streak is only for stuff that increases OBP and only hits, walks, and HBP do so, catcher’s interference is straight up deleted from OBP, just like sac bunts
OBP = (H + BB + HBP) / (AB + BB + HBP + SF)
