What the title says, I just got the game today and am currently updating my driver since it kept crashing due to it being outdated, anyways I’m very very early on I just beat the devourer but I’m just wondering if there’s anything I should be looking out for/take not off or just general knowledge since I’ve never played a path of exile game before, thx in advance!

Don’t stress over selling/disenchanting items you’re not using. When you’re leveling, focus on resistances in armor, and prioritize damage as well as +to skills on your weapon (in general). If you’re following a build guide it’s okay to veer off the path a little bit if you are near a node that you think may help you in the early game. It is easy to refund nodes when you no longer benefit from them (though it will get progressively more expensive to do so). Finally the game is balanced around its economy, so to get the most out of your character you will likely need to interact with the market for some upgrades along the way. Have fun!

Thanks and I’m actually not following a build guide, just having fun figuring stuff out as I play, I’m playing a sorcerer and I’m using ice nova for clearing and freezing shards which I found on a staff through firewall for bosses and I have no clue if it’s good or not but it’s been working well so far!

Played a sorc to 100 this league, and levelled with ice nova, can get frost darts abit later to help with single target, but using ice nova to explode frost wall is when you start to a lot of single target!

You should visit https://www.filterblade.xyz/?game=Poe2 and get a loot filter.

Defaults are fine. Just click the export to poe tab. If you get confused then Google “how to get a PoE2 loot filter” and watch a YouTube video

As another new player, I can’t help but agree.

(I bought the game on April 1st, 98 hours played now)

Personally, I read the subreddit (well, the discussions that hit my frontpage) but am deliberately ignoring stuff like the the optimal “snake” paths and whatnot for the Vaal Temples, endgame stuff, etc etc. if I do that, I might as well just head straight to icyveins/maxroll and start copy/pasting, right? From what I understand, this League is pretty much over anyway, might as well take my time, enjoy the campaign and whatnot. And at this stage, well, a loot filter might be counter-productive, because I’m broke as shit, all that trash loot a vet would filter out is a big source for shards/orbs from disenchanting it. :)

and just guessing here, but they did state they’ve never played a PoE game before, not that they’re new to ARPGs as a whole, they didn’t ask for links to more advanced tools but are probably aware that they exist. Sounds like they’re just looking for casual advice from other players, you know?

get a basic item filter to know what items are good and remove tons of junk from the floor.

and character wise poe 2 is making it way harder or impossible to end up with a bricked character, as you respect with gold now.

if you are not following any guide rightnow and you don’t have any fun trying to figure out combos and what not yourself, feel free to look up good level-guides and what not.

Take in the atmosphere and storytelling elements. Very soon you’ll become one of us and forget all about the beautifully crafting environments the game has to offer.

Don’t rush your campaign playthrough, read tooltips, use ctrl-f where applicable, dying to a boss just means you haven’t learned all its moves yet, “stun threshold” and “ailment threshold” mods are very strong during campaign, make use of a leap skill ASAP (Disengage, pounce, leap slam, escape shot, frozen locust), lastly: “It’s not stupid if it works!”

If your damage sucks, it’s probably your weapon.

Resistances are very important in this game, cold for act 1, lightning for act 2 and all 3 elemental for act 3, chaos isn’t too important in campaign, just try and keep it a positive value (resistances go down each act)
