Since 2019, Patrick Corbin is first in: Games Started, Losses, Total Based Allowed, Hits Allowed, Runs Allowed, and Home Runs Allowed
You can only be first in those stats if you stay healthy and are at least somewhat decent enough to keep around.
Yeah, it kinda ranks up there with the Phillies owning the most franchise losses of all time. You can’t be there if you weren’t there.
Lol, you can’t be there if you weren’t there is now my favorite quote
Real “If you ain’t first, you’re last” energy 🤣
It’s a modern Yogi quote
Similarly, the batter’s names at the top of the list for career strikeouts, GIDP, etc. are very frequently in the hall of fame.
ehh as much that he had a massive contract and the nats were bad so might as well have him eat up innings. still impressive to stay healthy and tolerable enough to keep getting contracts (though the cutter has given him some new life since 2024)
Or if you got a huge contract from a team that was bad and had nothing to lose by pitching you…he certainly hasn’t been somewhat decent
One of the Mets announcers said something to that effect, it’s hard to be the worst pitcher in the league because you have to be good enough to keep getting chances
I remember years ago, a guy talking about a 20 game loser: you have to be really good to lose 20 games.
They won’t keep sending you out there if you’re ass.
Phil Niekro (ATL) in 1979: 7.4 WAR, 3.39ERA, 23 Shutouts… 20 losses lol
Wtf
That’s …one… way to think about it :)
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: That man will give you 5 innings whether you like it or not.
I don’t like it!
If he’s on the Jays I like it a lot
He’s been surprisingly good in his last two starts actually.
Had a no hitter through 4 innings today didn’t he?
Yep! And he only allowed one run against the Brewers too iirc
Like any high priced DC hooker
Absolute chad.
someone gotta eat those innings
Maybe at some point try a salad?
“What happened to my innings? I swear I had some left over in the fridge!”
Dude is worth over 140 million dollars too. lmao.
He’s basically Robin Hood, if you ignore the “giving to the poor” part
He helps poorer players secure a contract.
Every pitcher loves comparing to him in Arbitration.
He traded 3 game 7 innings of being unhittable and etching his name in Nationals lore for 6 years of being extremely highly paid and doing nothing more than punching in and punching out
Not a bad guy to have around for a rebuild (that it seems the worst of is over)
He went up and took that loss every 5th game he never got injured lol
I had to check. He made 31-36 starts every year for a decade straight (minus Covid year). That’s patently absurd
No injuries!
All I know is that he’s first in all these stats, so he must be the best.
“If ya ain’t first, yer last!”
A key contributor to the Nats world series ring, and the rebuild. Mad respect
yeah it’s been long enough that i think i appreciate him again, lol
You pay those free agents to help you win even just once. Worth every penny.
what he say fuck me for?
Not saying hes been even decent or anything.
But when you start the most games you are going to be at or near the top in most negative categories too.
Its like the GIDP list being loaded with the best players of all time. Or the INT list being the best QBs of all time.
The best fielders also make some of the most errors in the league….because they play far more innings than most others. Bad fielders wont get nearly as many opportunities to make errors because they wont be in the game.
Best fielders also get to more plays than bad fielders. But if your outfielder runs a 99th percentile route to the ball and it drops out the edge of the glove it is often scored as an error
I like to note on occasion that not only is Pete Rose the hit king, he’s also the out king, as both stats are a byproduct of his being the all-time leader in games played and ABs.
It’s all about percentages.
You missed the easy one… Cy Young. He’s got the most losses in MLB history and they named the best pitcher award after him.
we had what? 9 starters? now with injuries we’re needing Corbin lol
And he’s cooking
He was good once upon a time too
And he is still better at baseball than 99.9999999% of people who have ever played baseball.
Can’t wait for the eventual Foolish Baseball/ Baseball bits video on this
Chad innings eater sequel goes hard
Already mentioned under the “quantity starts” stat he cooked up for that video but a full career retrospective would be fun.
So the angels absolutely blew him up right?
Not at all. It was like the movie Corbious. Patrick started and then Corbed all over them.
He came out of the bullpen and screamed “it’s Corbin time!”
Narrator: “They did not. But the ageless Drew Pomeranz was horse-whipped by Lenyn Sosa and Eloy Jimenez.”

Innings eating chad
Sometimes the best ability isn’t availability, as evidenced here.
These are all counting stats, they don’t give you any context. It makes sense that he leads the league in most hits/runs/HR allowed if he’s pitching 10x more innings than anyone else. Of course he’s going to give up more total if he’s on the mound more than anyone. It’s like saying a guy who pitches 200 innings and gives up 60 runs (2.40 ERA) is worse than the guy who pitches 100 innings and gives up 50 runs (4.50 ERA).
Sure but he did suck ass for a good chunk of that. Like basically all of 20-24
Kids, you can pitch and collect checks if you have any talent and pitch left handed.
Is this a stat that being 1 is the best?
There is a LOT of black ink on Corbin’s B-Ref page, this is undeniable.
This dude is an inspiration. Sometimes just showing up and doing the job is enough.
Well…. Least he stays healthy?
I feel like that first line holds some heavy context for the other stats.
And how much money has he made in that time?
Patrick Corbin has been in the bigs for 14 years and he’s gotten paid.
Thanks Pat for not living up to your legacy tonight
Is that good?
That stat window next to him just screams, “alright, let’s fucking see what happens today”
Future Met
Great graphic
1 out of 7 ain’t half bad
A man’s gotta eat
Getting paid millions to do this year in and year out. Truly amazing athlete
I get Corbin staying around as long as he has because of the Nationals contract he got, but I don’t understand how Mike Pelfry lasted in the league as long as he did.
