Murakami has been worth his contract easily. Probably a good idea he went short term as well.
He was smart. He probably had at least one longer offer with a low-ish AAV. This contract lets him prove himself on a team with low expectations and he’ll probably get dealt to a contender at the trade deadline next year.

Hey, it’d be cool if they signed him to an extension, but if he continues to mash the front office is going to have to make a decision about whether to trade him for prospects or build around him. That probably depends on how much $$$ he wants.

We’re talking about next year’s trade deadline. If you can extend Murakami before then, you do it. But if you can’t, you would be trading the 2 months left on his contract for prospects that will be with the team for years.

Always loved looking at it back when he was with the Swallows. The Triple Crown season was special, lots of homeruns, lots of walks and the highest BA. Still not quite sure what exactly happened, he said before that season that he wanted the triple crown and was training for that and then just never did it again lol
